Basic Action Super Heroes is a tabletop superhero game [1] that is both easy to understand yet flexible enough to create any type of character. Having successfully tested a BASH adventure, Night of the Krampus, as a PBP here on TVT, it was suggested that we start our own ongoing, original campaign.

FAQ

  • How do we play that? We will be using Rolz [2] for die rolls.
  • What if I don't know the rules? I will handle all rules aspects.
  • What is the setting? Megapolis, the game's official setting. Its your typical East Coast American city. Think Metropolis. It comes with its own NPCs.
  • What is the Power Level? 25 point characters, approx. Super Weight 3 type. Note: You can create characters of any point level. However points over 25 count as Setbacks (bad luck) while points below that count as Hero Points (used for feats.)
  • Can I play a Villain? No. The game uses a system that rewards good actions and punishes bad ones. You can however create villains for me to use.
    • Alternatively, you can play an Anti-Hero, if you are willing to accept some shortcomings. For example, Anti-heroes must spend one extra Hero Point to achieve a feat.
  • How do I create a character? You can describe your character and I can fill in the Stats for you; or you can use the online BASH generator; or if you know the rules, make the character yourself.
  • How many characters can I play? One. You can change characters at any time, but you can only create a new one when you retire your current one. This is to avoid a huge backlog of characters.

Please post your interest or your characters below.

Cwest5538 Blood Mage Apologist from Kirkwall Since: Aug, 2016 Relationship Status: You cannot grasp the true form
Blood Mage Apologist
#2: Jan 24th 2018 at 3:07:11 PM

Name: Khavilien, or Jonathan Winter when speaking to humans.

Codename: Snowblind.

Race: Frost Dragon.

Gender: Male.

Hero Points: 2

EXP: 5

Stats:

Brawn: 4 (Minor Super Strength)

Agility: 3 (Superhuman Agility)

Mind: 1 (Normal Human)

Skills:

-Physical: 3 Athletics/Acrobatics Drive/Steering Perform/Acting

-Mental: 1 Medicine/First Aid

Advantage and Disadvantages:

-Advantages:

Quick-Thinking: You are always ready to react to danger. Once per issue, you can perform an interrupt action without having to spend a Hero Die

-Disadvantages:

Freak: In his normal form, Snowblind isn’t particularly different or scary, but in his draconic form, it's a whole ‘nother story. Although some people do react well to having a big, powerful dragon saving them, the police and other civilians might not like having a huge lizard smashing into things, no matter how good his intentions might be.

Secret: Snowblind does not like killing, and he certainly would never think of eating someone. Granted, he has not actually eaten someone- though he came disturbingly close. In his youth, when cornered by a group of highly-armored and armed supervillains, the dragon accidentally bit one of them in half, before realizing that he found the taste of blood attractive. Despite it being in self-defense and being an accident, the incident haunts his dreams, and he has sworn to himself never to let anyone find out about it.

Weaknesses:

Damaging Weakness (Dragonsbane): Dragonsbane is an ancient substance, which is particularly damaging to dragonkind in whatever form they happen to take. Although not cheap or easy to get ahold of, a sufficiently prepared villain might be able to get some...

Inventory:

-Cellphone

-Wallet

-Longsword

-First Aid Kit

-Shield

-Pistol

Powers:

Plate Armor

Armor 3 (3 points, Limitation -1; Point Total 2)

While he might not have scales to protect him, Snowblind is far from defenseless in his human form. When in battle, he summons a suit of knight-style platemail around his body to defend himself from harm. Call it old fashioned, but it still works wonders.

Effect: Snowblind has an extra +3 multiplier bonus to soaking damage.

Limitation: This effect can be bypassed by making a called shot against Snowblind, simulating a weapon piercing the cracks between his armor to punch through the chainmail below.

Kite Shield

Deflect, 2 (2 Points)

Raising his shield, Snowblind can deflect all but the strongest or quickest attacks; and sometimes, he can bat them back at an enemy like a baseball!

Effect: Snowblind adds +2 to his Agility when defending against attacks. If Snowblind rolls doubles on the defense roll against a ranged attack, he deflects the projectile back at the attacker and the defense roll is treated as an attack roll.

Lay-On-Hands:

Healing, 2 (2 Points, +3 Enhancement, -2 Limitation; Point Total: 3)

The touch of a dragon can do many things. In this case, Snowblind has dedicated some of his power to using the healing side of cold to help others.

Effect: Snowblind can roll his level in Healing (3) as if it were a damage roll to heal someone he is touching. Outside combat, he automatically heals 30 Hits per hour.

Enhancements:

-Life-Force Transfer: This power works on the unliving. Even if someone does not possess a life-force, Snowblind is more than willing to share his own.

-Second Nature: This power loses the Concentration tag and instead gains the Sustained one.

Affects Others: This power can be used on others.

Limitation:

Only Affects Others: This power cannot be used to heal Snowblind himself.

Charges: This power can only be used three times per scene.

Icy Nature Immunity, 1 (1 Point; Point Total: 1)

Snowblind is a Frost Dragon. Therefore, it is actually quite logical that he would probably not be affected by the cold.

Effects: Snowblind has immunity to cold damage, and takes half damage from ice effects that bury him or hit him.

Draconic Form

Shapeshifting 4 (4 pts, -1 for Limitation; Point Total: 3)

By channeling his draconic nature, Snowblind can shapeshift into his true form. However, he is not a true shapechanger, and cannot turn into any other creatures, even when such an ability would be more useful than being a dragon.

Dragon Form Statistics:

Statistics:

Brawn: 4

Agility: 1

Mind: 1

Powers:

Huge Creature Size, 3 (3 Points of Growing: Size; Total Cost 3)

In his draconic form, Snowblind is rather large. When on all fours, he’s about twenty feet tall and weighs about two tons, and when not actually stretching out completely, is ten feet long. This extra weight and height gives him greater reach and greater distance in his stride.

Effects: (50 feet long, weighs 2 tons, 30 feet tall, 40 foot wide wingspan, Reach of 3 squares, +15 result bonus to Brawn rolls, -3 Defense Dice penalty)

Wings Flying 3, Sustained (3 Points of Flying, -2 Limitation, +1 Enhancement; Total Cost 2)

Dragon wings are strong and hardy, and can easily lift Snowblind and anyone he chooses to carry with him off the ground. He does, of course, need space to take off.

Effects: Snowblind can fly at 15 squares per panel, or roughly fifteen feet per panel.

Enhancement; -Second Nature: This power gains the Sustained quality, and Snowblind does not fall when taking damage.

Limitations: Snowblind can not fly in a vacuum, and he requires space to take off.

Frost Breath Damage Aura 3, Cone (3 Points + 1 Point

Snowblind blasts anyone unfortunate enough to be in the area with his powerful breath, threatening to freeze them solid!

Effects: Snowblind makes an attack roll. If the affected fail their defense roll, they take 2d6 * 3 Damage.

Sister Strigoi

  • Name: Sister Maria Agnes, nee Agnes Stern

  • Species: Vampire

  • History:

    • Sister Maria Agnes was a Catholic nun from Austria. In 1837, she was traveling through Romania (then part of the Austrian Empire), when she had to stop in a small village rumored to be ruled by a vampire. Sister Maria Agnes dismissed this as a silly superstition - up until the vampire, Dragomir, captures and turned her, planning to use her to spread vampirism and aid in taking over the world. He failed (duh), as Sister Maria Agnes proceeded to escape and rally the townspeople to slay Dragomir.

    • Afraid that the Church she served would want her dead, she went on the run, occasionally using the alias Sister Strigoi (a nickname from the townspeople she helped save). After World War I, she immigrated to the United States. By 1921, she was Megapolis’ most feared - and most rumored-to-not-actually-exist - vigilante.

  • Personality: Despite being a monster hurt by holy symbols, Sister Strigoi is still a devout Catholic. She views her condition as a gift from God, one that allows her to help people she otherwise couldn’t help, with the vampire weaknesses as an unfortunate side effect but necessary test of faith. She is hyper-protective of the weak and defenseless, and she’s not particularly respectful towards the Church due to all of the terrible things it’s done. She’s also remarkably non-judgmental and non-queerphobic - becoming a vampire (and the fact that she herself is not straight) has convinced her of the resilience of God’s love.

  • Stats

    • Brawn: 3. Minor super strength, strong enough to lift several tons.

    • Agility: 3. Superhuman agility, run 15 squares.

    • Mind: 2. Above-average intellect.

  • Powers

    • Clinging 1: Cling to surfaces.

    • Daze 2: Attack Mind x2 vs. Mind to cause victim to lose next panel, until target makes 20 Mind Check (one try per panel). Dazed target cannot dodge (but being hit un-dazes them).

    • Healing 4: Take one panel action to heal self of 4x2d6 damage: heal 40 hits/hour.

    • Mind Control 5: Attack Mind x2 vs. Mind to issue command to target for one panel.

    • Super Running 2: Run 15 squares per panel. (Top speed is 150 mph.)

    • Super Senses 3: Pick three extra senses (sight, hearing, smell).

  • Weaknesses

    • Devastating weakness (deprivation): When deprived of daily blood, lose all powers, and Brawn and Agility become 1, and take x3 damage.

    • Vulnerability: Take damage (like fire) from holy symbols.

  • Skills

    • Mental Skill: Humanities
      • Specialties: Philosophy, Religion

    • Physical Skill: Stealth

      • Specialties: Evade Security Cameras & Alarms, Hiding, Prowling

  • Advantages

    • Frightening Presence: +2 dice bonus to intimidate or frighten others.

    • Unliving: Immune to mental influences and mundane needs (food, water, air, sleep, aging), but cannot heal naturally.

  • Disadvantages

    • Destitute: Broke. Vow of poverty and all that.

    • Susceptibility: -3 dice penalty to Brawn when exposed to sunlight.

  • Inventory

    • Nun’s habit

    • Crucifix

  • Other

    • Defense: x3

    • Hits: 100

    • Mental Defense: x2

    • Soak: x3

    • Lift: 5 tons

    • Run: 15 squares

Yu na is missing her Physical Skills. Healing doesn't need the Personal Limitation, it is Personal by default. Also the actual point level of the campaign is 25 so you have one extra point left.

Story
Alejandro was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1990 to a low-middle income family. Though he did well in school, he became disillusioned with the workforce, and dropped out to join a street gang. He worked as a driver, and did some tagging on the side. He was later kicked out of the gang for his homosexuality, though very shortly after, he hitchhiked his way onto an alien ship. On the ship, he met some intergalactic freelancers with whom he spent a couple of years with, and developed abilities of his own. Chroma decided it was time to go home, and did so.
Personality
Chroma is generally laid-back, but fiercely loyal to his friends and loved ones, and would stop at nothing to protect them. His boyfriend, Aaron, often criticizes him for his absent-mindedness, and though he's smart, he often looks over the little details.
Appearance
Chroma's usual costume consists of some jeans, a custom-made white hoodie embroidered with a "C," goggles he picked up from his time with the aliens, and a bandanna around his lower face. Despite this rather lackluster costume, few people outside his friend group have seen his face.

  • Identity: first form  second form  third form  Reset Link
    • Name: Matten Teriitahi Mahvash 'Matten' Mattiuza
    • Status: Anti-Heroine (Licensed)
    • Secret identity: None, though her host's name (and now one of Matten's names) is Teriitahi. And while divs in her time had no given names, her companions did take to calling her Mahvash and Mattiuza, Matten being a later nickname that stuck for a while. She has other names, but those are her favorites.
    • Experience  Total Accumulated Character Points: 08
    • Hero Points: 03
  • Languages: Persian, Aramaic, Russian, Runasimi, Spanish, English, (Mandarin) Chinese, Shona, Malay, Dehlavi (Hindustani), Nahuatl, Arabic.
  • Appearance:
    • Teriitahi: Not Current Form
    • Mahvash/True Form: Matten's Khvarenah remains a constant thing, though now the wisps take the form of white embers or even snow that contrasts starkly with her brown skin and usual dark surcoats. She also remains cold to the touch (and to approach), but not deadly less she wants to be. (Whoever she's 'healed' keeps the crawling centipede fire though). As always, Matten's crowned by a purest black halo that albeit, has a metallic sort of look to it. Added to this is a pair of (vestigial) black wings that curl up at rest. note  True form restored and putting it to use obsessively, Matten's also quite athletically built, and will show off given half a chance. Matten's hair retains the (darker than vantablack) color, but her eyes have become a piercing green. With her noxious presence under control, Matten puts far more emphasis into finery, often appearing with bronze jewelry, like a rather regal circlet and a ring on each hand. And while it's not immediately noticeable, her Voice of the Legion remains her natural accent—only now she uses it as her regular voice.
  • Personality: Matten is both adventurous and charitable, if only because, staying still too long gets boring and she loves attention. Being a guardian entity (and at max prestige a tutelary deity) in her past used to get her worshiped after all. About anything excites her interest, and she will follow mysteries through to the end. And while she has some tendency toward Moral Myopia, those she accepts as hers get much in the way of preferential treatment and aid. In battle, Matten is a rather risk-averse, preferring to buff allies and slowly corner opponents, not to mention fighting extremely dirty. It should be noted, that Dark Is Evil in Matten's case. She's learned not to attract the attention of people like Banu Goshasp, and learned somewhat sociable behavior (by the standards of places that aren't Māzandarān), but her being on the side of justice is a happy coincidence. Matten is forthright about knowing the value of friends though (see below), and more than happy to dote on allies.
  • Background: Matten is your basic average daeva from Māzandarān that is for many intents and purposes perfectly human. Except she lived in a place of dark power and ill omen crawling with evil sorcerers, mad oracles, mad scientists, evil chancellors, eviler emperors, and all manner of daeva sometimes between, sometimes behind, never above them all. Matten varied between mook, researcher, marquess, patron dark goddess and much more as power and shifted with the winds. Māzandarān was and is a place of chaos and evil. Fortune played games. Matten didn't up and move from Māzandarān (and causing trouble) until the campaigns of Banu Goshasp.Long Version  Ever since then, she's been playing city spirit (or in fouler moods, Fair Folk) to random people over the ages until it morphed into superheroine in modern times. (It was work...) She's had the time to amass quite the following and get used to the modern age. Teriitahi Matten's clash with Banu Goshasp (and Giv) is a sore spot and just barely didn't kill her outright. But she lived, and, as things are now, she's rather cautious with her new form. Long Version
  • Headquarters- Daivadana Teriitahi: The Hotel Teriitahi (aka Daivadana Teriitahi) is, in fact, a hotel, a rather ritzy one too. It's double duty as the center of the Teriitahi cult is no secret either. It gets them tax benefits. As for the hotel part, the cultists play pretty good music. And the occult is always good for tourists. The thing is right in the New Kingstown, in southeastern end of South Town, and actively competing with Willow's Grove for creepiest spot in Megapolis. They hope that no one can miss it. The hotel itself is known for occultism, but also great performances and food. (It's a tried and true method to lure in new members). By necessity, they hotel's staff are rather expert in craftsmanship as well, as their daeva's very presence is corrosive, necessitating near continuous repairs. For now though, the revenue keeps flowing—tourists love this stuff, so its a cost that the hotel can absorb. The doubling as a temple thing cutting out substantial taxation helps as well.

Re: The Pack, great concept, but I have questions:

  • How does Bring Them Down work, exactly? Sounds like they just hold someone down. But as written, if the Person escapes he'd still be under the effect.
  • What is the point of the X-Mastery? The Pack are already (technically) part of him.
  • Shouldn't he have Accidental Change (only under moonlight?)

1) You're right about the x-mastery. I changed it to telepathy for communication between them. They just agree to cooperate, they're separate entities.

2) I took it as he's always a wolfy humanoid so no changing?

3) I envisioned Bring Them Down as a sort of hamstringing bite-one of them damages prey in such a way as to cripple them while another is keeping their attention. I can choose something else that works better if you like.

4) Yeah Astral Form makes more sense.

Actually I have an idea: see, by Default Duplicates fight as Minions. However, Minions have a dangerous maneuver called Gang which is when they attack together at once. This can be simulated if you take Martial Arts: Grappling Style. I think this fits better than Weaken.

Other than, the rest is OK!
