Bump, because here's that trailer!
That actually does look quite fascinating. :)
I like to keep my audience riveted.Beautiful visuals, looks already enjoyable just for the art direction, but the rest, it feels it plays safe and follows the trails of the last Disney live action movies (from Alice in Wonderland onwards) so even if my first reaction was "at least it's not another animation classic converted to live action", it's not like it looks very different from them...
At least from the trailer I like the brief appearance of the orchestra from Fantasia, is that a remastered snippet from the original movie, or a really impressive reproduction?

These are the first pictures they've released
People (on Reddit) are already comparing the visuals to Alice in Wonderland and saying it's going to flop hard, there are also comparisons to Wrinkle In Time
Also, they're going to have recast Morgan Freeman or a face a backlash
Anyway,it's based off story by of The Nutcracker and the Mouse by E. T. A. Hoffmann's,who I've never heard of, but everyone has heard of Tchaikovsky's version which is a ballet called The Nutcracker, which is about a about a girl who finds a Nutcracker doll or something and then goes to a magical land of dolls
I keep getting this story mixed up with The Steadfast Tin Soldier by Hans Christian Andersen
New theme music also a boxI don't think that it will flop just because of the visuals. They weren't the reason why Alice flopped either (plus, they actually remind me more of the Narnia movies).
It might not do that well in the US but in Europe? Yeah, there it can be quite a success. It is the freaking Nutcracker after all.
I fail to see why Morgan Freeman would need to be recast?
I do see the Alice in Wonderland comparisons, mostly in the very beautiful sets but incredibly muted color palate. Narnia could be really lush and warm once the ice melted.
I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Afraid I can't quite read it right this second? How... damning is the evidence?
Not trying to be the whole 'I need to see proof' guy but George Tekai was accussed of stuff last year and I was heartbroken and furious... only for it to come out months later that the accusations had been a lie.
George Takei was accused by one guy who later turned out to not accurately remember the whole thing; Freeman was accused by eight victims and eight witnesses, several of which guessed right away they were being asked about Freeman before CNN had even named him. Also part of his actions was recorded on camera.
Lasse Hallstrom and Joe Johnston will share screen credit as directors.
Not exactly sure how big a deal this is, but apparently the Directors Guild of America only allows one director to be credited, so...

Just came back from watching it.
What a turdpiece. There are so many things I hated about it and I can't elaborate on all of them.
Just a few things:
- Realms my ass, I've been to villages in middle of Nowhereville, Bumfuck County that had more populations.
- Oh my God the twist was so obvious that it would've actually surprised me if there was no twist.

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Eh, the movie was cute, but it was all style and no substance. For anyone who's interested, I HIGHLY recommend reading the novelization called The Secret of the Realms. Not only does it go into expansive detail about the Realms and how they came to be, it also goes into the reasons why Sugar Plum and Mother Ginger turned out the way they did, giving the twist near the end much more weight. Plus, the novelization is well written and has much more depth than the movie does, and is overall the better version.

So far, the first trailer will be marching onto the Internet tomorrow. In the meantime, have a preview of what's to come.
As for the movie itself...
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a live-action adaptation melding Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's famous The Nutcracker ballet and E.T.A. Hoffmann's beloved fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
Foy stars alongside Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Morgan Freeman as Drosselmeyer, and Helen Mirren as Mother Ginger. Ballet dancer Misty Copeland will feature in a key sequence inspired by Tchaikovsky’s iconic score.
Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston recently stepped in to helm 32 days of additional photography on the special effects-heavy fantasy, as Hallstrom was unavailable for reshoots due to scheduling conflicts.
Hopefully, it'll be better than the last Nutcracker movie...
