Finished the Into Thin Air quest, jesus fuck that boss was hard. Had to give everyone dark resist and give Ophilia Sorcerer with the light and wind magic to beat it, the first two attempts went horribly.

Wait until you see 'Scaredy Sheep'.

'Into Thin Air' did not give me half the trouble.

Improvement Thoughts on a Hypothetical Sequel:

  1. Abandon the chapter format. Padding is so much more obvious when you put a "END OF CHAPTER X" at the end of it.
  2. Have party member contribute during each others' stories.
  3. Whoever has the thief class should be able to pick locks. Expecting me to revisit every dungeon to loot the purple chest with Therion is insane.
  4. More Advanced classes!
  5. "Summon Beast" could use some refining for the late game. I find myself barely using it. Especially when H'aanit does over the limit damage as a runelord. With more class options and abilities, it often feels (unless you have a very specific beast that matches a very specific boss - ie: Weak to axes, beast does three axe strike) that there's better use for her abilities than summoning a beast. Beasts targetting randomly probably doesn't help
  6. Similarly, Concoct could also use some work. The curatives are awesome, but the offensive concoctions are kinda lame. They never deal damage. Decent to break an enemy, but beyond that...
  7. There's clear power differentials between the 8 basic classes. Cyrus being the only one with multiple strike elemental attacks makes him basically both a power house and indispensable till you find the scholar shrine (till it is supplanted by the sorceror). Ophilia is both the best healer, and comes with great offensive options in her holy damage spells which also makes it hard for Alfyn to compete outside of specific builds (the 1hp instant kill) or dealing with lots of status effects.

Alfyn's concoct isn't supposed to deal damage. The main point it offensively is to break shields and give status effects and debuffs.

Which would be great if it didn't miss on the debuff like half the time.

(Plus his cococt, using weak ingredient, is on par with the Scholar at break shield. So you know, use Scholars and kill shit. With strong ingredients it ticks one more than the sorcerer. So use a sorcerer and kill shit)

Honestly if i was telling a friend about this game, I'd say to start with therion, that way he's locked to your party, cause purple chests are EVERYWHERE

Plus Therion has a 2 hit dagger attack that costs no BP, and no SP (Since Steal SP will refund its costs constantly) and HP Theft gives him sustainability non-healers lack.

Running a team of Prim/Therion/Cyrus/Tressa went from being a bit frustrating to damn fun. Forest of Purgation is a great leveling spot. I went from being iffy on the boss to more confident I can do some damage.

Just beat the Devourer of Men, and, uh, let me give you a rough transcription.

Me: This guy has been giving me trouble before, but I finally killed his little spider minions and it's going well. I'm going to do Bewildering Grace for the heck of it.

Game: Mushroom guy that fully heals and buffs him.

Me: Oh. Fuck.

Game: Also 100x EXP.

Me: OH FUCK

And then $300,000 of capitalism abuse later, my mid-50s B team are now in their 70s. Back to the A team for now!

Congrats! I still have trauma over that time I tried using BG, dropped all my items, then slowly got beaten to death by Prim's second boss, so I don't really risk it anymore.

It's been fun.

OK, the final boss makes me think I have to rethink how I lay out my teams. How did I neglect having an apothecary for the first phase twice?

Also, could a brother get a save point after the boss rush. Is that too much to ask? I don't feel so.

Got through Tessa's Chapter 2 boss. Man is Hiring a broken skill. I ending up buffing my defenses for several turns while Primrose came through with the debuffs. The guy has more HP than Therion's chapter two boss, but went down easier once I equipped Blizzard on Ophelia.

To be honest, I've seen complaints about the chapter scenarios and how they don't connect, but honestly I like it? Not every JRPG needs a linear storyline and I appreciate the fact that I can start and restart a chapter whenever I want. It gives the player a lot more freedom to do what they want. The traveller banter is enough for me, though I do think a buddy-system like in Fire Emblem series would've been pretty cool for this game to make up for some of the loss character interaction.

For me, I appreciate the fact that this game gives you a lot of freedom without bogging you down on the story. I also don't mind the fact with the limited character interaction because the chapters only feature that ONE character and their story. If the game had random characters we recruit suddenly get in on the story without any explanation as why they're there in another character's chapter, then yeah, i'd be confused. But this game only really features that ONE character for their chapter which is fine for me.

I do wish that your party showed up in cutscenes and had some degree of input. Although it would make some scenes in the later chapters not work.

I visited the Hollow Throne and beat the boss but got destroyed before and after that by the Thunder Elementals hitting the whole party for 1000+ damage. And all i got was a weapon, not a subclass :(

You only get subclasses at Shrines, the dungeon will have Shrine in the name if it's one.

This is literally the only reason why I made Therion my starter character.

Famitsu magazine has opened up a survey for English-speaking players.

I want to partake in this, but I still don't have the game, so I can't answer any of these questions honestly.

It was a bit weird that classes weren't called by their English names, but it was easy to guess which was which.
