Eh, fair enough - but I do feel Ian manages to flesh Zavok and Zik enough without the need of adding a backstory. He did good with Zavok and Zik (working with what they had in LW) and Zazz and Zomom (who are meant to be comical cronies). Zeena and Zor were underveloped, although Zeena was turned detestable with her attitude towards Cream (and I love it).

And Ian really went dark with Zor and the Zombots. Mans was out here torturing people and accepted getting turned into a Zombot.
And if we ever saw zombot Cream, that may've broken my heart.

I took a rewatch to Lost World, and Ian really went far with rewriting those two. While everyone else is more or less the same, Zor is less "this lazy pessimistic who is all gloomy" and more directly "sadistic and masochist", while Zeena went from "that lazy diva obsessed with girly things" to "sadistic, while still being a diva".

I do wanna give a shout out to Zomom though, because in the midst of a zombie apocalypse epidemic, the LAST thing you need is a powerful tyrant who can deplete valuable resources in mere minutes.
He kind of reminds me of Lord Vauthry in FFXIV, where he also had control of the Sin Eaters at large, and those who didnt meat his demands were killed or sacrificed to them. Shits scary.
I liked the transformers shoutout/reference in the newest issue. when starline says belle is more to you than meets the eye we see the autobot matrix on a shelf behind starline

Zeena and Zor in Lost World, and Zomom to an extent, didn't seem as evil in lost world as the others, simply because they were basically ancilliary one-note characters. Fat joke, Girl joke, Goth joke. Hell, in the scene before the second boss fight with Zeena, it almost seems like she'll let Sonic go if he apologizes, then only attacks him when he insults her.

Yeah, and well I did find that scene funny, but I do appreciate the comic personality a bit more where she's openly dislikeable.

Zor was still pretty sadistic in Lost World mentioning that he loves the sound of screaming and outright saying he would enjoy torturing Sonic. He also made reference that he enjoys his own suffering as well.
Thinking about it, Sonic has killed other villains in the games, so its odd the comics are bringing up him never killing villains as an issue.
Honestly it doesn't really happen as frequently as you'd think.
The only time Sonic has killed are the Biolizard, Emerl, the False King Arthur, and Dark Gaia. Off the top of my head at least.
Chaos just got calmed down, Shadow handled Black Doom, Elise blew out Solaris' flame, Erazor Djinn was sealed back in his lamp, whoever killed the Ifrit Demon in Rivals 2 is debatable canon, it's hard to qualify the Babylon Guardian as a living being, Merlina was spared, and Eggman dealt with Infinite. Everyone else has been spared.

I guess I just don't really Sonic as the type of franchise where that question would pop up.
It sounds that Sonic will beat you into submission and if you'll survive the process is another thing, especially if you're a super powerful giant monster. It's not like Sonic was trying to kill Biolizard harder than he did Metal Sonic is Sonic Heroes. Main reason Chaos survived all his fights is because he's about impossible to kill.
I can argue that in some of those cases Sonic didn't exactly had the luxury of holding back nor he could fully predict if they'll live or not (Arthur just kinda faded after his defeat and Sonic didn't know he was some kind of magical creation, and Emerl acted on Gerald's self-destruct program). Also Biolizard isn't really intelligent and I think Gaia just retreated back into the planet.
And Eggman just teleported Infinite back to the base.
Damn I want Ian Flynn to use him and the Jackal Squad.

That's going to be a little hard, because the Jackal Squad were catalogued with a heavy dose of "dead", with an addition of "murdered" and "exterminated".

Infinite makes Phantom Ruby copies of them so we get to see their personality and his insanity as he tries to cling onto to the memories he had on them to remind himself when we was strong.
Plus, lord knows he'd benefit the best from Character Development
So basically, Sonic's friends were weirdly giving Sonic grief and they think that he doesn't take a life for some weird ass reason? Even though he killed plenty of times before? Good to know lol

But he considers his old self a weakling that is not worth remembering. That would apply to whatever relationship he had with that squad.
It's not really his friends. It's just Shadow and Espio and they were specifically giving him grief over not killing Eggman and the problems that resulted in.
It'd just be interesting for him to come to terms with the fact he still considers himself a weakling and old or new, it's clear he didn't change the right thing about himself. Character introspection and all that.
Plus we never got his backstory before he became a mercenary.
And there's the fact they still needed Eggman to fix the problem he caused so killing him would be even more pointless.
That and even if they did kill Eggman, with all the magic items in this franchise, his forced would find a way to revive him.

You know he's a Complete Monster, right? After all the misery and destruction he caused, it's too late for him to receive any Character Development that don't involve him turning worse. He's Beyond Redemption.

Yeah, let him turn worse. Become a smarter and strategic villain. Plan better to fufill his sadism. Truly personify that negative character arc.
I don't want him to be redeemed. I want him to fully live up to his potential as a villain.
Then again, is he the only villain that has killed people besides Mephiles?
I think you're overestimating how much backstory and development Sega characters can get in this book.

I'm not the one suggesting of exploring the backstory of the character, as I know that's not in the terms of condition. Not to mention, he's Too Powerful to Live by design.
If he can be brought back, I'm all for it. But any scenario he gets redeemed will earn my dissaproval: he would turn that "cheap anime redemtion" thing into a reality.

The Six still have the same problem of not being all that establish as characters and we know just as much about them as we usually do.
And of course, the usual design issues.
