If anything its surprising Senran Kagura got Yumi instead of one of the main characters.

Yumi is a main character. Like it or not. She might not been in the original game, but she sort of like Iconic Sequel Character to Spotlight-Stealing Squad depending on your cynicism.

I know squat about Senran Kagura, but Asuka came across as the poster girl to me based on my few glimpses of it.

Neo is cool, glad she got in over some other RWBY characters.

Akatsuki being here gives me hope Sion/Eltnum can make it in, which would make me pretty happy.

Okay, let me break things down. First there was Skirting Shadow. It starred two schools by the name of Hanzo Academy and Hebijo Academy. Asuka is the leader of Hanzo group and thus the main character and Homura is the leader of the Hebijo group and thus the main rival. Then came Updated Re-release in the form of Burst which gave the Hebijo girls their own story mode.

After that came Shinovi Versus. It introduced two new groups with Gessen Academy with Yumi as the leader and since the Hebijo girls defected to become Homura's Crimson Squad, there is a new Hebijo team lead by Miyabi. All four groups have their story modes, though Asuka and Yumi could be said to be the ones to advertise the game the most.

Now it wouldn't come as any surprise that the Senrans are designed with different interests in mind. In the case of Yumi, she is clearly designed to evoke as many Yamato Nadeshiko traits as possible. And holy hell, did the Japanese fans eat her up. As in in the popularity poll made before SV came out Yumi came in first place. And she has been consistently doing well in the polls. Because of this, the focus has definitely favoured the Gessen group the most if possible. Especially Yumi. They even lampshade how it seems like Asuka is seeing Yumi as her rival over Homura. Yumi also gets lion share of merch and advertisement.

Of course this is mainly for Japan. In the West, Yumi is less warmly received. Especially due of the Spotlight-Stealing Squad aspect.

Neo without Roman is odd...

Neo's pretty much the only interesting RWBY villain that's alive, so I'm glad she's in this game.

Blitz is the best part of this I'm ready to main him.
