When I first saw his look & shotgun katana I was like "Hmmmh this guy looks decent."

Adam wasn't bungled. He was fantastic depiction of an abuser. Some people just wanted him to be some sort of edgy anti-hero who took screentime away from the main characters. But that was never the purpose of his character.

Nope. He was fantastic, for what he was. Yeah, pathetic at points, but that's what all abusers are when you take their power away.
RWBY is honestly a fantastically well-written show, it's just that it's not conforming to the tropes of it's genre and that's throwing people.

I think the best part about Heart to me is how her 5/2B can counter projectiles. Mainly the fact that purely by testing she can rack up ridiculous amount of damage if she counters multi-hitting projectiles.

You just need to actually watch the thing and not go "Ah, this character is this trope! I completely understand now!" and then be mad when said character is not actually that trope.

Adam being a character symbolizing abuse would be fine and dandy...if he also wasn't part of a race and resistance that actually are oppressed and treated like shit. That's the problem with Adam, people were expecting Magneto but instead got Kylo Ren. And meme incel Kylo Ren at that.
Now, Sienna Khan could have taken up that cool, compelling Anti-Villain mantle while keeping Adam status as "that dickhead member who's actually an abuser and uses a good cause as an excuse to commit more evil", but...yeah.

My main beef with Adam is that his character was basically superfluous after Volume 5; the whole white fang subplot was resolved at that point. There was no reason he had to linger.
But because they had to earn those Bumblebee points, he just shows up in Volume 6 with no real context or purpose beyond just being a PSA about abusive relationships and then killed off with no fanfare.

Not like he deserved to go out with fanfare at that point. The Bumblebee subplot was one of the brighter points of the show and ended with one of the best fights in the show, so I'm not complaining, but I still would have preferred him getting vaporized by a resurrected Sienna Khan.

I'm gonna drop this all under a cut because it's a bit off-topic:
If you think the White Fang storyline is over, while our characters are on their way to Atlas, where Faunus are explicitly treated the worst out of any other place in the world... Yeah.
Second off, Adam is supposed to represent how activism groups have to be careful, because they can end up being co-opted by forces who want to use them for nefarious ends. Which is a pretty prescient theme in a world where Wikileaks got co-opted by the Russian Government.
As for Sienna Khan, you are in fact supposed to be mad that Adam killed her. He's furthering his cause by committing more violence against women. As for her playing an Anti-Villain role... how, exactly? She's against attack schools, or anything besides targets like the SDC and Atlesian Military, neither of which are affiliated with our heroes. Yeah, she'd be an Anti-Villain if she lived, but she wouldn't be part of the plot. She has nothing against our heroes.
And Adam was not superfluous to the plot, he's a major part of Blake and Yang's character arc. While he was defeated politically in Volume 5, he's not a villain who was opposing our heroes purely on a political level. He's the man who abused Blake for a good part of childhood, the man who cut off Yang's arm, he's a major source of trauma and pain for both characters. He's a personal villain to two of our four titular characters, an overhanging shadow on their interpersonal relationship, something they both needed closure on. That's not superfluous in any sense of the word. And you can't say he just should've been defeated in Volume 5, because Blake needed to win the political victory, to take his power away from him, because if you kill someone with political power they become a martyr.
See, this is a problem with the RWBY fandom as a whole. For some reason there's a focus on how and why things happen in a plot, and ignoring the existence of character arcs.
So, how's the patch going for everyone?

I stopped watching RWBY after Volume 3. The complaints I hear about Adam are less about the White Fang and more about his relationship with Blake.
