The Witcher - A Netflix Series

While the game is more known in the Western World, many people also know the splendid Witcher Fantasy Novel's. These books are now adapted into a Netflix series. Even more surprising: Sapkowski is directly involved in the production! Let's hope it will become a much better adaptation than the horrible first series.

I bet the author will be happy with this adaptation since he's still bitter for missing out of getting royalties for the video games.

It could be good? I'm gonna be level and say I didn't care much for the books. Some parts are pretty good, but Yennefer and Geralt arguing all the time like teenagers gets old pretty fast (Yennefer in general is rather annoying). There's some pretty cool plots I'll admit.

Basically, they finally found a distributor and changed the format to one the producers are more used to. Let's hope that nobody will have the fuckstupid idea to cut the material down to two hours and drag it to the cinemas, like the last time...

So is this going to be Geralt, or do we finally get someone else for a change?

Geralt. But, there's a fan film about Lambert and Triss in the works, to be released in December.

....what sense would it make for Geralt not to appear when it's an adaptation of the novels? And honestly, people need to cut Sapkowski some slack. It's his creation, he can think about adaptations however he wants to.

Whoops, read that wrong, didn't realise it was an adaptation rather than something new. It's more Sapkowski's attitude that people don't like.

Well yeah he is kind of a grumpy old man, but honestly, I can understand that. How would you feel if your creation gets overshadowed by an adaptation which you don't even find that good and when the cover of your books get plastered with pictures from the games for marketing? And I'm pretty sure that I recall how he was also harrassed about making the games canon and writing sequel books for it, which is pretty impertinent.

Well, enough that he hated the previous TV adaptation. If he's onboard, it's a good thing.

I remember the racial controversy over the third game. So I had a discussion with a pole who cared a lot for the books. He said that the series is meant to be Very Slavic, and therefore "pushing 'diversity' on it" makes no sense. I asked if it would then bother him if the cast was whitewashed into being played by Anglo Saxons, Celtics, Scandinavians, and... Do Jews count as Slavic if their ancestry is East European? And if he's okay with non Slavic actors playing the characters, what does he care if a Moor or a Mongol shows up here and there, or, heck, if it got the Hamilton treatment?

The world of the Witcher does have other races, and there are two dragon-worshipping Zerrikanian women in the short story "Bounds of Reason", plus mentions of traders from Zanguebar coming to Novigrad to do business in the short story "Eternal Fire". The problem is, they're pretty far away and need a reason to show up. Like, for example, trade.

Or the Ofieris in the first expansion packs.

Ofieri are Canon Foreigners. But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they put an African-looking Zanguebari trader in the Novigrad harbor, maybe even with a quest. It'd make enough sense.

Well they weren't described in detail, but the land was described in the novels to have zebra's, so we can assume the people living there are also more eastern like.

Eastern like? Far as I know, most, if not all, species of zebra live in Africa, don't they?

If they adapt the novels, I realized they could cast Greg Bryk (Lt Lopez from the first season of The Expanse) as Bonhart. That close-up on his eyes from the interrogation scene gave me that idea.

Na, it's gotta be an old and skinny guy, who at the same time can deliver some awesome moves with the sword.

Bryk is way too young and muscular.

Is there any announcement for the cast? Will they cast actual Poles and Slavs?

I doubt it, since they intended to make an English-language series and people over here can't speak good English, at least not without a thick accent.
