Actually . . . even that's wrong. If you go back to Pre-Christian days, the words Demon and Monster already existed. And they meant ANY supernatural creature, good or bad. It would be more accurate to say that the word Angel was invented to differentiate the loyalists from Satan's rebels. The word Demon was, ironically, Demonized to establish the Jewish god's dominance over all other supernatural beings who would have held the title of god beforehand.
"The Ancient Greek word δαίμων daimōn denotes a spirit or divine power, much like the Latin genius or numen. Daimōn most likely came from the Greek verb daiesthai (to divide, distribute).[3] The Greek conception of a daimōn notably appears in the works of Plato, where it describes the divine inspiration of Socrates. To distinguish the classical Greek concept from its later Christian interpretation, the former is anglicized as either daemon or daimon rather than demon.[citation needed] The original Greek word daimon does not carry the negative connotation initially understood by implementation of the Koine δαιμόνιον (daimonion),[4] and later ascribed to any cognate words sharing the root."

"The root of monstrum is monere—which does not only mean to warn but also to instruct, and forms the basis of the modern English demonstrate. Thus, the monster is also a sign or instruction. This benign interpretation was proposed by Saint Augustine, who did not see the monster as inherently evil, but as part of the natural design of the world, a kind-of deliberate category error.[2]"

The whole ambiguity was built in a long time ago. We've just been rediscovering it.
I just saw the movie on Redbox. Thought it was great. I really like how inhumanly horrifying Pennywise is.
Something I didn't get about the ending, though. When Pennywise "dies", the children start to descend. Are those dead bodies and now they're found to give closure to the families? Or is this an extremely uncharacteristic everybody lives happily ever after ending and they were all in stasis like Bev?
Pretty sure those were dead bodies. There was no discussion whatsoever in that ending of most of the missing kids being reunited with their families. Something like that would have been noted in the epilogue, or they wouldn't have done it to begin with.
Teaser for Chapter 2
-Brrrrrrrr-. Jeez grandma, you scary.
When does Captain Marvel punch that Grandma in the face?
Holy crap, that sequence with the grandma was intense as shit.
It's been 3000 years…Still hoping that Pennywise will do this in the new movie:
I like that part too. :)
I like to keep my audience riveted.I love it when trailers show mostly full scenes, it does a lot to establish atmosphere and the actual tone of a movie. There are clearly some cuts but how the scene gradually becomes more and more unsettling was great.
Anyone notice that Stan didn't make an appearance in the grown-up scenes? Book fans can guess what happened...
Or those who watched Nostalgia Critic reviews.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Which one was Stan again? I can never remember.
One Strip! One Strip!Jewish kid. Curly hairs. Gets bitten by the flute player from the painting in his dad's office
Or those who watched the original. I know what happened, and I know why. At least this time we got to see the event that causes it.
Second and final trailer just dropped
Not as creepy as the other trailer but still a pretty good amount of unsettling imagery.
And that freaking giggle.
This was the right thing to do, to only have two trailers. That being said, though, this is going to feel like a pretty long wait.
It's been 3000 years…Just watched the latest trailer.
After watching the trailer for Cats 2019, this trailer looks totally okay.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Man, if Chapter Two outgrosses the first one, it would be on Deadpool series tier of R-rated movie box office success.
In another topic, I feel "You lied and I died'' is significantly weaker than "You'll float too!" mantra.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. So I found out the runtime for Chapter Two will be 169 minutes which is 2 hours and 49 minutes. That's a pretty long runtime for a horror film, but the book is pretty long, so there is not much surprise there. I guess water consumption is a priority while watching if you don't want to literally wet yourself.
This goes into the Monster Cleanup Thread, but I feel It is the perfect depiction of what monsters were originally meant to. That is, embodiments of evil. Because back in ye olden days, monsters were not meant to be non-malicious. They were supposed to be pure sadists who do what they do For the Evulz, and are worse than humans in every regard. Monsters were originally not "these are dangerous animal-like creatures" but instead "these are goddamn evil in the flesh and they love every minute of it"
