Wow, that's really something. After the middling to poor reception of their other movies lately, I was beginning to worry that this movie would be a massive case of Sequelitis.
I mean, it's still early on, but still, all right!

"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."Let's hope they stop at number 3, and leave the series on a high note because this is a once in a lifetime thing for a studio like them. For Illumination, I kind of find a lot of their work full on on cliche storms and the fact that they got this movie right is something to celebrate.

Well, it was fun while it lasted: The Tomatometer score has since plummeted to 65%, with the consensus on the website reeking of Damned by Faint Praise.
Seems that the main criticism that I've seen overall is that the plot is too jumbled and has trouble juggling the Balthazar and Dru plotlines.

"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."
Yeah, I spoke too soon.
Steve Eggman's in this? Now I don't know what to think!
Don't know how quality could be expected from Illumination.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Because not everything they make is bad? The original Despicable Me was good as was the Minions movie despite the minions themselves being an annoying cash cow. The Despicable Me franchise as a whole has been considered pretty good so far despite how annoying the minions are so naturally people would have high hopes for the third movie.
Not to mention that The Secret Life of Pets was better than the majority of Blue Sky & Sony's animated films.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. The Minions movie sucked, The Secret Life of Pets was a blatant Toy Story ripoff, and Sing was garbage. Illumination are on par with Sony and Blue Sky, they just make more money than either of them because they're masters at pandering.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Just because it's a "ripoff" doesn't make it bad, The Serect Lives Of Pets alone was still better then half of what Sony and Blue Sky makes in my opinion
The Lion King was a ripoff and I don't see anyone complain

Doesn't mean anything if the ripoff isn't good, which the Secret Life of Pets wasn't. The Lion King was a ripoff that was still good regardless. The Secret Life of Pets is just manufactured tripe like the rest of Illumination's movies. And so what if they're better than Sony or Blue Sky? Doesn't make them good, it just means they're marginally better. Marginally being the key word here. Still bad but not as bad.
A friend of mine once compared Illumination to being the Mc Donald's of animation, and I agree: it's cheap, bland, and only good to kill a few hours. They just exist to make merch off these cliched movies instead of making good movies with any effort put in place.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I think Blue Sky is better than Illumination; most of their movies are mediocre but at least a few of them have some sort of ambition or desire to be more than just mediocre. I mean if we're comparing the Dr. Seuss adaptations, Horton I think is genuinely pretty ok while Lorax was an insipid, obnoxious movie.

That too. Blue Sky gets a bad rep for the Ice Age and Rio series of films but outside of that there's an alright Dr. Seuss adaptation, a really good Peanuts adaptation, and a fairly forgettable fantasy movie that nobody remembers.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
I remember going to that one with my dad. It's kind of underrated and it had Robin Williams in it.
tl;dr: anything that ain't disney or pixar is garbage.
MIANo, the tl;dr is that Illumination sucks.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?No offence, but we get it,you don't like illumination, that's fine, but it's starting to become a bit of a Single-Issue Wonk issue with you
New theme music also a boxmaybe add dreamworks in there but i rest my case. the trailer for despicable me 3 just betrays the original message of the first movie for me. maybe i haven't watched the full movie myself but that seems to be the case. tell me if i'm wrong.
MIA
With me? This is something that numerous people have brought up and criticised for a while now on the net. It ain't just me.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Best to see full film before you accuse it of betraying the message of the original film

New theme music also a boxSecond film already kinda did that by shoehorning a wife for Gru.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I just saw it (for free because I work at a movie theater) and I thought it was pretty good. There are a lot of subplots to pay attention to and not all of them are directly connected. The best part is by far Balthazar Bratt who is hilarious and theatrical.

I went onto Rotten Tomatoes, and it looks like from the first reviews that it's actually something worthwhiled. The fact it currently has a higher rating than the first movie actually gives me hope for it.
