Aquaman (2018)

Now that a writer is on board, I think it's time Aquaman got his own thread.

The movie is directed by James Wan.

A few things about how James Wan views this project. The tone he's aiming for. James Wan on Aquaman and Mera's relationship.

Aquaman was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris, debuting in More Fun Comics #73 back in November 1941. This movie marks the character's first live-action big screen appearance as the protagonist.

Aquaman, as portrayed by Jason Momoa, appeared briefly in 2016's Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice, and is set to appear in 2017's Justice League film. This Aquaman's origin is based on the New 52's version of the character: making him half-man and half-Atlantean.

Mera, Aquaman's love interest/girlfriend/wife (depending on the continuity you subscribe to), has been shown.◊

The movie is set to start production this month (November 2016) in Australia

Will Beall was one of the original script writers that had signed on. They were doing a competition between him and another writer.

The story is by James Wan and Geoff Johns. Will Beall is writing the script.

Is this movie supposed to be an origin story?

If so, I'll admit to feeling a tad disappointed, if only because I assumed Justice League would establish him well enough that they could just hit the ball rolling. Not like Aquaman needs a complicated backstory anyway.

It sucks that Aquaman is getting a movie before the Sub-Mariner shows up in a movie because if Namor does show up in a movie, people will think he's an Aquaman ripoff when it's really the other way around.

Maybe DC's getting back at Marvel for beating them to the punch with Thanos/Darkseid.

To be fair, Aquaman is so well known in pop culture that a lot of people tend to treat Namor like a knockoff anyway.

Maybe it's just me, but Aquaman looks too big and old to get an origin story. He doesn't even really need one. Just a line or two.

He could get a small flashback in his own movie, but a couple of lines would work for Justice League.

I saw this trailer earlier. Arthur seems very angry. This is certainly a better teaser trailer than the one for Bv S.

Well, some little "twerp" is trying to get him to join a group of misfits to be super friends/Justice League by commenting that he can talk to fish. Joking aside, Bruce is hilariously bad at not getting into physical confrontations.

Gentlemen. My uncle's nephew's daughter's friend works at Gamefreak and he told me that WB is changing the name of the Aquaman movie.

He was in a bad mood before the mention of talking with fish. He'll probably be "angry guy who mellows out a bit over the course of the movie."

That's basically been Aquaman since the 90's. Johns New 52 revamp was the most mellow he'd been in years. Doubling amusing because it's often been said the inspiration was "Underwater Conan."

Will Beall wouldn't have to write a lot of the script because James Wan and Geoff Johns wrote the treatment and the story

A treatment is usually a 40 page outline of the script and all Will Beall has to do is go on that 40 pages and add to it.

Inspiration for Aquaman's eyes?◊

That's possible, and would fit in with the image this Aquaman is going for.

Either way, I'm actually excited for this movie. James Wan is, at the very least, a man with a distinct artistic vision and who's made movies I've enjoyed, and everything Momoa, Wan and other people have been saying has boded very well for this production.

Speaking of Momoa, he's going to be awesome. I'm so glad they casted him.

That's possible, when he is in shallow water or on the surface his pupils are really small and when he is in deep water and the ocean depths his pupils are dilated.

"He really hates Aquaman'.

'Uhh I know but what I mean is-'

Always reminded of that old Seanbaby article where Black Manta is listed as the 2nd worst member of the legion of doom (After the Riddler, who is technically a good guy since he's helping the heroes).

His entire thing is "he owns a boat".
