For most schoolgirl outfits I assume normal cotton would be fine.
Just make sure to avoid synthetic fabrics. Not only do they not drape right for 90% of clothes, synthetics SUCK at heat regulation.
Was talking more about the green dress with the glowing bits.
"Yup. That tasted purple."There are glowing bits? fluorescent neon paints and dyes are common as far as I know.
I was almost about to spring for EL wire and stuff.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Looking at the picture again, I think the only parts that are glowing are the green ring around the headset doggie ears, the bracelets, and maybe the stripes on the boots. But those can all be done with fluorescent electric green paint.
Anyway, I guess I need to start getting samples in.◊
"Yup. That tasted purple."So yay for out of print patterns, I guess. =/
"Yup. That tasted purple."I love her wig! It looks like actual hair that happens to be dyed lavender, and she didn't try to force an immensely big ponytail like in the actual anime.
Some people try to style their cosplay hair exactly like the character with giant spikes/poofs, and it's pretty impressive but sometimes the mass of gel gets really shiny in photos and messes up the light.

And it's the wig that's making me unsure about doing that character since I still don't really have a clue how to do curls and things.
And doing a single spike annoyed me immensely.
"Yup. That tasted purple."You can use a curler if the wig is heat safe, right?
off the shitsI'm not sure. I mean I guess you can use it as a form while hitting it with freeze spray even if you can't heat it.
Guess I found my base shoes for it though.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Her curls are more like really flippy waves, so it looks like just one or two rolls around the curling iron would be fine.
In other news I still don't quite have a clue how to adapt this to use a different leotard pattern. Because it seems to be written with that one very specifically in mind, and it doesn't run large enough to fit me.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I appear to be doing the Love Live! thing.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Don't worry too much about the Sailor outfits! Just remember that it's a leotard with a skirt! :D
It's more that most of the tutorial is written assuming that your pattern has a single seam running up the back and a separate hip section.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Yay for expensive custom-printed fabric =/
"Yup. That tasted purple."Ah, I saw a tutorial that said you can just buy thick tights and use fabric paint and a stencil to produce the same effect. That'd probably be cheaper.
off the shitsFabric paint on stretch fabric is kind of finicky though, as I found when doing my research for Tracer.
Especially since ideally you need to stretch it while it's being painted. And heat-setting it messes the stretchy up.

"Yup. That tasted purple."So I did a test of how things look with the chest part of the web-brought Sayaka costume I already have.
On the top is how it seemed to settle, whereas bottom is how I keep being afraid the one I make myself will look. (IMAGES BORDERLINE NSFW)
"Yup. That tasted purple."If you're really worried about wardrobe malfunctions, clear/flesh-toned straps are your friend.
It's not so much "falling off" as the pads staying visible even under normal conditions that I'm worried about.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Maybe make a flesh colored mesh part to cover your chest? It probably wouldn't be visible unless people looked closely.
off the shitsLooks like I'm going to that convention. No definite yes, yet.
But it's a bit over a week away.

I'm not really sure what sort of fabric to use for it, but yeah.
