Going by history, as Artistic Licence whatever is a renaming of You Fail whatever Forever, which was renamed for obvious reasons. This makes artistic licence tropes essentially Critical Research Failure but said in a polite way.
Art Major Biology is more in line with Rule of Cool driven Science Fiction. Biology needs to work that way for the plot.

So Art Major Biology is a subtrope of Artistic License – Biology?
Art Major Biology, as I understand it, is designing creatures that look cool with no regard for practical biology. It's not really artistic license because there was not even a token attempt at adhering to reality. Although I suppose it could be defined as a subtrope.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Just noticed this, but curiously Art Major Physics is listed as a sister trope on Art Major Biology; it's a redirect to Artistic License – Physics.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"They were separate and then TRS decided that people used them the exact same way so they got merged.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick
Couldn't find an existing topic for this, so started a new one.
What is the distinction between the two tropes? Artistic License – Biology is when Artistic License is applied to biology in works. Art Major Biology is when Acceptable Breaks from Reality is applied to biology in works. Both of those are about deviating from reality for the sake of writing a good story.
