The Greek Gods being robots who gradually became human falls under "stupid, but cool" for me. Their whole backstory though was way more complicated than it had to be IMO.

My take is that Atlantis' Lampshade Hanging on the mechgods was clever, but not clever enough to justify the concept.

The positive side of Atlantis and Olympus is once against consigning them to history so we only have to deal with the Divine Spirit versions, whilst getting all the mecha references and fanboying out of the way.

At what point is something a large enough plot element that it's inspired by rather than a reference to? Serious question. It probably does come about because of Mazinger, but...

I really want playable Hades, Ares, and Apollo.

Zeus and his brainwashed gang are definitely likely even if its awhile before they're playable.

Also helps that Clockwork and Robot like things have been theorized by ancient Greece or appeared in Greek fantasy movies as well.

I mean, you pretty much have to give Zeus a Historical Hero Upgrade, guy was a jerk in the source material. Went around cheating on his wife and having kids with mortal women literally all the time, for one, and there was some serious Double Standard: Rape, Divine on Mortal there. Lots of Values Dissonance. I imagine they'll play up the stuff about him being the god of kingliness and hospitality and stuff.

If he does become playable, I really hope his rapist tendencies aren't just accepted and they actually get treated as a bad thing... cause seriously, half the shit that happened in Greek mythos involving him can be traced back to Zeus turning into an animal and sticking his dick in shit, and rarely was it consensual.

If anything, play up his relationship with Hera, since the Lostbelt Zeus did genuinely love Hera, and was even willing to spare Europa if she agreed to house Hera and stayed out of the fight. That seems like it could be expanded on to be a legitimate redeeming trait of his, that he genuinely loved Hera. Add on that apparently in the Nasuverse Europa consented to having sex with Zeus and apparently had Zeus serve as a Closet Key for her Bull fetish, and Lostbelt Zeus made clear he cared about Europa too, it seems possible to make Zeus have redeeming qualities via his love for Hera and Europa... it's just they'll need to be careful with addressing the fact, unless they make every single instance consensual, that Zeus is a Serial Rapist, and that Lostbelt Zeus was perfectly content killing all his siblings and children for opposing his plan, then turned their corpses into his weapons, whereas the ones he left alive he mind raped to the point they went insane and became unstable.

In regards to the latter though, according to Europa, Proper Human History Zeus does love humanity as if they were all his children, and the big difference between Proper Human and Lostbelt Zeus is that Zeus lacks that trait. So, if they pull an Ivan or Xiang Yu and summon Proper Human Zeus using Lostbelt as a basis, that sounds like a pretty good means of making him likeable... it would still just leave the Serial Rapist part to deal with.
