If she hams it up like in Thor: Ragnarok, I'm 100% sold.

Is it possible for a gun to be glitched in the player's favor? Because I find it odd how long I've had this assault rifle.

This is why I hate DLC and games that rely on seasonal updates.

I uninstalled this because I only have so much space on my PS 4. Reinstalling it should be no problem.

But we're on Version 11.1 whatever now. The download went from 12-17 hours to 4-5 hours which is just enough time to make my 6pm session with friends null and void. My internet isn't slow by any means, but on PS 4 this file-copying takes quite awhile. And now it's happening on one of the only days this month I have to actually play the game with my friends - which is kind of immensely emotionally important to me right now because I don't have a lot of those, and I've had a rough month, and playing games is one of the few genuine bits of human connection I have at the moment. So, getting that one opportunity to do it, means a lot. But, no.

I'm angry at myself but I'm angrier at the fact that this game is so update-heavy. It's nice that they care but some games are just going to be imperfect, and this obsession with "hotfixing everything/the online features" is annoying. I can't even touch online until I wait for a 3-5 hour download, for content that I can't even access because it's story missions, and this isn't the first time I slept on this game for a week and came back to find out there's a massive update that blocks me from actually playing the game with people. Plug in and play is dead. Games with online functionality just drop anchor whenever.

I'd be less miffed if the timing weren't so goddamned awful.

Next Takedown and DLC (separate things) announced. The Takedown is an event with rogue Guardians, and the DLC is a Western-themed bounty hunt.

Cate Blanchett signed up for the Borderlands movie. Honestly, I don't know what to expect from this and that is completely fine with me.

Have they said anything much about the plot?

Plus 2 introduces most of the well loved NPCs (sorry Claptrap).

Maybe they'll combine them into one movie? Or go the route of the comics and just tell a side story instead of adapting the game itself.

Borderlands 2 is also the one with more of an actual story to pull from. The first game is 'You go on a treasure hunt. You collect the plot coupons. Bad guy shows up. SURPRISE! VAULT IS THE BAD GUY! Defeat Big Bad. The End!"

Borderlands 2 has a stronger characterization and arc as the story evolves. There's much more personality to build off of. Handsome Jack, if WAY WAY overplayed, is much more to work with then the Commandant character that they did nothing with.

Though, if I'm honest, I'd rather just have a story set in the universe. Like Tales was. Make a story that works best with the film medium and do your own thing. There are supposedly THOUSANDS of Vaults out there with really little reason you can't make a story within it's own little bubble. Keep the freedom going and don't stick yourself too close to source so the adaptation doesn't work.

Adapting 1 has the advantage of no one really caring about it. Tossing out 90% of the game (which is necessary since games by definition are full of Filler) won't ruffle many feathers. Plenty of movies have done great treasure hunt stories, and this can easily be one of them.

2 is a much more coherent story, and therefore much more difficult to adapt because the movie won't have forty hours to tell it.

True, B1 means there's more to expand and deviate from. My worry is that it would fall into a... for some reason the Silent Hill movie is the one that comes to mind with this problem? The first film will adapt the first game but WILDLY deviate from the source material (possibly for the better in many respects) but then the video game sequel to be adapted... doesn't make sense with the first film they made.

What if the movie kills Roland off? Or they expand ANG 3 L into a completely new backstory/character? So much of Borderlands 2 wouldn't work. That's more why I'd rather have an original in the same universe. Gives much more room to breathe.

I don't know, it sounds like Lilith will be the main protagonist witch probably means BL 1.

[up]×2

Pretty much. They'll probably focus more on Steele and the Crimson Lance plot.

With Handsome Jack being teased in the Stinger.

But Steele and the Crimson Lance plot isn't interesting. Borderlands stands out in the franchise as being utterly unlike the others as it hadn't quite hit it's stride with it's characters and comedy just yet. Steele isn't compelling. Hell, the most interesting thing I can think of about her is the one thing that the game inexplicably never ever decides to do anything with despite what a big deal it is; she's one of the Sirens. Borderlands 1 doesn't have a lot of the elements the series became known for, at least in the story and character department.

Maybe... tell and original story with Lillith? Her "First Treasure Hunt" of sorts that ends with her on that bus at the beginning of the game? I mean, I don't think we know a ton about her pre-series and we're not likely to explore it any time soon as of BL 3 either.

I mean they can be made interesting.

B1 barely had any work done into its story so of course it was uninteresting.

But the movie writers can do whatever the Hell they want with this. As long as they put in the effort there are plenty of ways they can handle this to make Atlas & Steeleahlfway decent antags.

Like that’s the thing, however the movie turns it will most likely be very different from the game.

It is Cate Blanchett. If she just goes around Pandora blasting bandits while going full ham it will be good enough and Borderlands to the core.

Yeah on further thought, it shouldn’t take much to get this movie right. It’s basically an over the top action movie with a little treasure hunting.

All it needs is 4 charismatic enough actors who can both play the VH’s well & have enough chemistry with each other so their interactions are entertaining, & a bunch of creative set-pieces they go through after finding each step in the puzzle for the vault.

It’s pretty simple when you think about it. It just needs the right execution & creativity.

Then they make it interesting.

Heck, have stuff from the Knoxx DLC, including Knoxx himself.

But that gets to the problem that I originally said there. If they deviate too much from things, say, by creating a lot of new elements to the story, characters, and their arcs in the narrative to fill up 90-120 mins of screen time, they will quickly write themselves into a corner in a variety of ways.

So, they expand the story. ANG 3 L now has an expanded role. How do you possibly expand her role any more than it is without either A, rewriting her character into someone completely new and incongruous with the character we understand from Borderlands 2, B, go through massive steps of her character arc from Borderlands 2, but probably not working because her narrative arc doesn't work jammed into Borderlands 1's frame work, or C, do some haphazard combination of both that doesn't make sense because no one actually made a clean choice in the matter and then just do Borderlands 2's narrative anyway and pretend the contradictions never happened?

I'm not trying to harp on this, but we constantly see this in game adaptations over and over and over again and we're all collectively sick of it every time it happens. These companies come in to make big video game movies, don't get them, make a bad movie, and claim video game movies sell bad.

The amount of expansion that Borderlands 1 requires as a narrative to become akin to the series it's known as by Borderlands 2 and also one that has a beginning, middle, and end with interesting characters is so great that it will be very very easy to write yourself into that corner not only with just one character, but the entire story as a whole.

To put a non-video game example, How I Met Your Mother had it's ending written ages and ages before the show ended. But then the series kept getting renewed and more show was written and by the time the ending comes around, the show and it's characters had developed far beyond the ending they made and then forced it to end with and no one liked it. It didn't make sense anymore.

As much as we had issue with Handsome Jack stealing the spotlight after Borderlands 2 (which seemingly isn't an issue much anymore as of Borderlands 3 even if his shadow looms in the story), his character embodies a lot of the things Borderlands has latched onto and been associated with the franchise ever since; sarcastic self-aware and irreverent humor with flamboyant zany villains, actiony badass heroes who aren't also afraid to be funny and awkward at times (read: human), and colorful comic book aesthetic in an age of video games that tries to be as gritty and realistic as possible.

A lazy screen writer/Corporate Brand Recognition Committee is going to see Handsome Jack and either inject him (somehow) into Borderlands 1's story, or, arguably worse in both the short and long term, turn Steele and/or Knoxx into a proto-Handsome Jack to try and fill that void in the first movie. Which will probably result in something so drastically different, why even bother using Steele or Knoxx at all? What's the point to name recognition if there's little else to recognize? If you want to use them, you need to expand them, not rewrite them and especially not into Jack 0.5 Beta Tests.

[up][up] I loved so many of the ideas of Bounty of Blood, but the tone was too quiet and somber. Overall, it tried to balance that depressing company town atmosphere with self-aware parody and came out muddled. It was hard to actually care about anything. It wasn't until after I finished that I even got the central joke: It's a Western with an Eastern aesthetic.

[up] Maybe, but that's not the end of the world. We'll see what direction it goes in. Dragon Keep was about revealing that Tina's craziness is largely a mask to deal with the world, while my guess would be that this will be more about Krieg's more genuine insanity.
