Shouldn't this go in the Badass tropes cleanup thread in long-term projects?
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Except I feel like the discussion here is more on the "Took a level in" rather than the "Badass" part.
The question is "can a character that has gradually become more badass count as taking a level in it?" which can also be applied to all the other "took a level in" tropes.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. You can take a level in something even if you already have levels in it. The O Ps scenarios are really a distinction without a difference. Yes, they highlighted the extremes, but most characters are somewhere in the middle of the two. Any split is just going to end in pendantic quibbling about if a character started as a badass or not. It's not going to be clear cut in the majority of cases.
Based on the poor OP which only cites hypotheticals and the fact that this wasn't officially opened, it just fell through the bug cracks when we updated the forums, I'm locking this.

There's been some discussion in ATT as to how to properly apply Took a Level in Badass. As it is, the trope is commonly being applied to two separate scenarios:
While it's very common for the trope to be applied to Scenario #2. The writeup for the trope only talks about Scenario #1 with choice descriptions like
It does mention Scenario #2 in passing with
but it potholes that part to Serial Escalation. The point of contention here is whether a Badass who becomes more powerful is actually becoming more Badass or simply gaining the ability to apply their existing Badass to a wider range of foes. Powerful action guys becoming more powerful and more actiony is already covered under Serial Escalation.
In essence, the trope as written is about the shift in a character from "not a Badass" to Badass. A character who is already a Badass can't become a Double Badass or a Triple Badass. They're still a Badass.
