Undertale.
Undertale has EXP and wraps its plot around why gaining it is a bad thing. It doesn't lack a traditional leveling system, it just makes it part of the story.
Yep, the 'No EXP' thing is a deal-breaker for me.

I don't know, a couple of pages ago you seemed to be okay with the idea of the number of battles you fight being used to get upgrades (Although I don't see any evidence of that being the case from the footage).
Edit: sees the humor mode oh... alright then.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midJust don't visit gamefaqs for their opinion. Right now is a battle of New Paper Mario rocks and the old ones now such. Personally I'm in the middle.

Mileena MadnessSticker Star and Color Splash failed for me because the stories were basically Baby's First RPG Plot, which just isn't Mario's style when it comes to RPG's in the first place. As such, the plot here is what's drawing me to Origami King more than anything.
It's been 3000 years…x2 And it's full of Bug Fables shills, too.
Bug Fables is worth shilling tho
Accotrding to this Sticker Star interview the Paper Mario devs had been wanting to move away from EXP for a while, inspired by Tingle's Freshly-Picked Rosy Rupee Land where you progress via money.
"We decided to make it so that players would face stronger opponents by throwing out the whole concept of experience points and levels in favor of gradually gathering stronger stickers.
I had actually been thinking for a long time that I wanted to get rid of the RPG experience points. In the Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland game, which Kudo-san and I worked on together, the player-character didn't develop at all. We adopted a system whereby they solved everything with money. "
That wasn't well-received, so Color Splash had a sort-of EXP system with Hammer Scraps that increased your max paint capacity, and it looks like TOK is the same with confetti. (I bet there's a challenge run out there that involves not collecting them so you finish the game with only 100 paint!)

The Protomen enhanced my life. From my understanding the Tingle games are built around collecting money as the main goal and they're not RPGs. Tanabe is trying to graft that system onto a genre where it clearly hasn't been working and people don't want it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?It is kinda nutty to me that one of the defenses nu Paper Mario gets is "well it's new and different and stop being a boomer" when this is the third game in a series that's following two divisive at best titles.
Paper Mario RPG can get boned, but this new Puzzle Adventure thing can get as many chances as it wants.
Combat looks fun, and the game feels energetic.
The music is great and the game looks gorgeous.
Also, The musical number with the trees was fun and charming.
Yeah and levels in Paper Mario were never as important as it is in games like Disgaea.

"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"One thing I really liked about 64/TTYD's EXP system was that you didn't need to grind; it all flowed naturally as you progressed through the areas.

The Protomen enhanced my life. You know a game where progression is counted by money would be great for a Wario game.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I wish there was another Wario land.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Wario would hate spending that hard-earned cash, though XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.I would really love for Wario Land: Shake It! to get a remaster as a way to test the waters.
I know this is impossible but what do you think would happen if Bug Fables managed to somehow outsell Origami King? Like how do you think the development teams of either games are going to react to seeing Origami King do fine but end up overshadowed by Bug Fables?

Check out Rogues Gallery Transplant: The GameI think no matter how well TOK ends up selling, fans of the first two games will continue to bug Nintendo about returning to the old style. If Bug Fables outsells, though, they'd certainly have more ammo to bug them XD
EDIT: Found an adorable Pokey OC! https://www.reddit.com/r/papermario/comments/hnit4s/hey_so_everyone_seemed_to_really_like_that/

The Protomen enhanced my life.Shake it was a damn fun game, and gorgeous.
At least the dev team had found more success with Yoshi Yarn.

I do think that because of Bug Fables outselling Origami King in this scenario that I think Nintendo would likely make the Paper Mario team go back to the battle system of 64/TTYD. In this scenario. The newest game was overshadowed by a game that was similar to the first two Paper Mario games and Color Splash not only received backlash when it was first revealed, but also didn’t do well when it was released, it’d make sense for them to go back to the old style of Paper Mario. Which might lead to a Writer Revolt.
Still, how much of a shock would it be for the Paper Mario team to see their game get outsold by Bug Fables which is in the style of the first two games that the fans have been requesting to see a return to?

Check out Rogues Gallery Transplant: The GameSeems unlikely since the "writers" in this case are doing exactly what they want to do. At least going by interviews.

"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"I forgot Bug Fables was a thing.
-looks it up- wait it's out?
In any case there's no way a indie game is gonna outsell a first-party Nintendo title.
Bleye knows Sabers.
Well how much did Undertale outsell Mother 3?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.you cant outsell mario
