This RP is a reboot of the Forum Game RP, Feudal Island. Like the original game, it will be based heavily on Japanese mythology and culture during the Feudal era as a whole. You are allowed to play characters that were present in the era, such as samurai, warlords, or priests as a few examples, but players are not limited to that by any means. Mythological creatures and spirits/yokai are also a large part of this game, so playing as one of them is fair game as well. Playing characters hailing from foreign lands is also allowed.

The game takes place on a large island based on the Feudal period of Japan, but aside from that, the island and world itself can be built upon by the players, as long as that doesn’t infringe on anything already built by a player or a group of players. Plots are also allowed and encouraged. They can range from from single-character centered ones to ones that affect a larger group or world as a whole, but in the case of the latter, please at least give me an idea of what you have in mind so it can be determined if it can be implemented. Plots are also not mandatory to participate in if you don’t want to, but plots in general should be made to be inclusive to all or the majority of players. The important thing is having the option.

There are not many rules, but try to keep these in mind, at least. They’re basically the same as the other RP I look over, We Are on a Space Adventure.

1) Don't be a dick. (Don't be rude or mean.)
2) No autohits, ghosting, or godmodding (unless it is involved in a plot and have permission to do so. Even then, don't go overboard.)
3) No plot hijacking. (Basically, don't try to take control of other peoples plots and such.)
4) Play fairly.
5) Stick to the established rules of the universe of the setting when world building.

With that out of the way, make your characters using this thing below and happy Feudal-ing.

The World

The Island of Keijo

Keijo is a geologically diverse island of small renown, located in the Eastern Seas, specifically in the heart of the Dragon Triangle. It consists of nine different provinces, which are under the reign of five different daimyo, which often leads to periods of martial conflict. The island is most known for traditional culture of its people and their widespread belief in the myths of their land, primarily in the belief of all manner of spirits which populate their island home alongside them. The Provinces and areas they encompass are as follows.

  • Mifune - Sonome, Chikiyumi, Eto
  • Aoiji - Yamaichi, Akiyama
  • Fukure - Midorigawa
  • Hanazai
  • ???
  • ???
  • ???
  • ???
  • ???

To be modified as the game progresses.

Villages and Locations

  • Sonome - A quiet village settled at the base of the Jinbei Mountains located in northwest Keijo.
    • Sonome Temple - A temple, which has become one of Sonome’s staple attractions over time due to the belief that praying to the spirits living there will grant travellers divine protection.
    • Jinbei Mountains - A mountain range bordering the northeastern edge of Keijo. They are prone to experiencing odd and extreme weather patterns throughout the changing seasons.
    • Serpent River - A river whose naming origin is a bit of a mystery. Some believe it’s simply from the way it snakes its way through the landscape of Sonome’s forests, while others believe it's from the unagi spirits believe to call it their home.

  • Chikiyumi - A small, coastal fishing village nestled on the shores of the Miodori Sea.
    • Chikiyumi Wharf - A small wharf built by the fishermen living in Chikiyumi. It acts as a port as well, allowing for travelling ships to dock on the eastern end of the island instead of having to sail all the way to the western end.
    • Miodori Sea - The sea resting on the Eastern edge of Keijo.

  • Eto - A grand city bordering the edges and acting as sort of a bridge between the central and eastern regions of Keijo.
    • Tamura Estate - The resident home of Lord Keiichiro Tamura and his son, daimyo of the Mifune and Aoiji provinces. Succeeded his father after the Battle of Eto.
    • Eto Shrine Gardens - Shrine gardens that double as a place of prayer and a place of remembrance for those lost in the Battle of Eto.
    • Market Street - A street serving as one of Eto’s main thoroughfares. It is populated with a number of shops and market stalls, some that are only opened seasonally, and the rest which are open all year round. You can find goods from all over Kejio being sold here.
    • Tachibana Square - A small plaza which bisects Market Street at its center, splitting it into two sections. It serves mainly as an attraction, being decorated with an elegant fountain and statues of various designs. It is mostly utilized as a location to hold festivals.

  • Yamaichi - One of the first settlements established on the island, Yamaichi was considered a cultural hub since its creation, settled right near the heart of central Keijo. Unfortunately, it was utterly destroyed by the Murakumo in a violent assault, which has since been known as the Massacre of Yamaichi, over 20 years ago. To this day, the lands have still not recovered, leaving the area utterly barren and devoid of life and earning it the appropriate name of the Deadlands as a result.
    • Yamaichi Ruins - The ruined remains of the massacred city. Despite having happened 20 years ago, it’s said that the terror of that fateful night can still be felt to this day from those bold enough to approach the city’s ruins.

  • Akiyama - A village built by the survivors of the Yamaichi Massacre, with the aid of the Shirokai. It’s located on the western edge of central Keijo, not far from the ruins of their old home. It’s very peaceful and well protected thanks to the Shirokai presence, but many visitors claim to feel something like a cloud of dread hanging over the village.
    • Aoyama Meadow - A forested meadow located north of Akiyama. Patches of rare flowers grow here, due to the strange composition of the soil in this area. It also doubles as a place of remembrance for those lost in the Massacre, having a small monument at its center.

  • Akumane - The former ancestral home of the Murakumo. Built to the far north of Yamaichi and hidden deep in the cave system of the northern mountains, it served as the perfect hideaway, providing them both tactical and natural protection.
    • Murakumo Estate - Dwelling built by the Murakumo clan. Has since been burnt to the ground after the Assault by the Shirokai.

  • Midorigawa - A village located in southwestern Keijo. It’s surrounded by wetlands, making it a prime location for rice farming.
    • Midorigawa Rice Fields - Lands dedicated for the growth of Midorigawa rice crops, serving as one of the main sources of rice on the island.
    • Midorigawa Temple - A small, weathered temple crafted from stone, unlike most of the wood ones in use around the rest of Keijo.
    • Ichigaya Sea - The sea resting on the western end of Keijo.

  • Aramaki (Dark Destiny Soul)

To be modified as the game progresses

Clans and People

Onmyoji

Onmyoji is the term (in this setting) that refers to any human individual with the capability to develop magical or spiritual abilities due to special bloodline traits. In the past, they played important parts in society, performing duties for their villages and leaders as diviners and exorcists, as well as communing with spirits and their world. After the rise and fall of the Murakumo, former onmyoji themselves, the majority of the general public has become incredibly suspicious of anyone harboring such ability, fearing that they are always one step away from another Murakumo incident. As such, all onmyoji (aside from those that are members of the Shirokai) have been banned from performing any of the civic duties they previously performed for their villages, and more vocal settlements have gone as far as chasing anyone believing to have onmyoji blood out. In more recent years, the past stigma about onmyoji has faded a little with time, but there are those who still hold onto those beliefs with incredible strength.

There are three types of bloods an onmyoji can have:

  • Pureblood - Pureblood onmyoji are born from the union of two onmyoji with compatible bloodlines. They have the most natural ability out of the three types and have the easiest time manifesting their abilities, and tend to do so at young ages. Pureblood usually have more a more limited range of abilities (such as only having an affinity with one type of elemental or spirit magic), but they are extremely potent. They also are more likely to have unique abilities, that mixed or nixblood onmyoji cannot learn or replicate.
  • Mixedblood - Mixedblood onmyoji are born from the union of two onmyoji with incompatible bloodlines. They’ve more difficulty utilizing their powers and have to actively train with them to become competent with their use. Because of their mixed blood, their powers are weaker than a Pureblood’s, but they tend to have more of a variety of abilities they can learn from.
  • Nixblood - Nixblood onmyoji are born from unusual circumstances. Most of them are born to normal, human parents that have no genetic ties to onmyoji whatsoever. Their powers are mainly believed to spawn from an unknown, external source with spirits believed to be the main catalyst. Nixblood are also unusual in their powers, as they tend to be random in their development. They also have a lot of difficulty in consciously controlling them without proper training. All Nixbloods are born with strong Spirit Sense abilities.

Murakumo

The Murakumo a former clan of onmyoji turned demons. Renown for their skill in summoning abilities, they desired powers greater than those their roles allotted them, and began practicing forbidden rituals to summon demons. The demons, being what they are, tried to take advantage of this and promised the Murakumo power beyond compare, in exchange for offerings of their blood, so they could in reality corrupt them and turn them under their influence. They readily accepted, but the Murakumo had also planned accordingly for the demon’s true intentions. The summoners performed Soul Binding rituals on their own bodies, which caused the reverse of what the demon’s intended when they accepted the blood: their spirits became bound to the summoners’ bodies themselves, effectively trapping them within the human-shaped prisons and letting the Murakumo use their power as they saw fit. Enraged at being outplayed, the demons had the last laugh unfortunately. Being sealed within their bodies allowed them to both corrupt their hearts and merge their souls with the summoners, which gave them the ability to manifest their will through them and even take the body over altogether at times. The final and most known consequence of the self-inflicted possessions is an insatiable appetite for the spiritual energy of living creatures, which often caused the Murakumo to go into violent rages in search of anything they could feed off of, be they human or spirit, stranger or even family members. This would be a “curse” that would continue to afflict the Murakumo and all of their descendants for years to come.

The Shirokami/Shirokai

The Shirokami are the most renown and only onmyoji clan allowed to officially practice and hold positions as Onmyo practitioners on Keijo. They are a Pureblood clan, having techniques specializing in the exorcism and banishment of evil spirits. The Shirokai on the other hand, is the name given to those that ally themselves with the Shirokami family, including samurai and other bushi warriors, soldiers, priests, and other non-conbatants. Ever since the end of the Massacre, the Shirokami/Shirokai have made it their duty to hunt down and eliminate all living members of the Murakumo to make Keijo a safe place once more. Whether or not that is the sole reason for their dedication remains to be seen...

To be modified as the game progresses.

UPDATES

Stuff I'm planning to get around to adding here:

  • Comprehensive list of locations established this far, to help paint a clearer picture of Keijo and the world in general

  • People, beings, groups and other terms of note.

  • TV Tropes page...at some point.

Name: Akihiro

Age: 23

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Birthplace: A monastery in Koka

Physical Traits/Appearance: Average height and weight, with a simple tanned complexion. His laziness on off-hours mixed with his wealth allow him to pass as a strangely well-groomed peasant or a shabby noble at any time. He is often settled into an emotionless glare, though sometimes smirks when eating, making poisons, or hitting a good kill. He is often dressed as a wealthy merchant, all in midnight blue, wearing a simple, featureless mask when not disguising as a merchant or peasant.

Clan/Family: Koga

Occupation: Shinobi

Equipment/Tools: A Katana, ten Kunai, a blowstick with 20 darts, and a small pistol

Powers/Abilities: Invisibility, Water-Walking

Background: Akihiro was born the spoiled son of a lesser Shogun in the Koga area. He was trained as a private Shinobi (though he also liked the concept of Alchemy, and studied how to make his own poisons) for the use of his father and allied nations. His first mission was a few days after he turned 18, on March 8th. While you might expect this to be the part where some tragedy happens, or he rebels, his first assassination went off without a hitch, and he currently has 20 kills to his name. He has recently been hired by a lesser nobleman for his 21st - a rival nobleman in the town of our roleplay.

Miscellaneous/Notes (optional): While he is a serious, determined, silent, and ruthless killer on the job, he is laid-back and snarky when not about to pull off an assassination. He likes disguising as a wealthy merchant as it allows him to get by without attracting much attention, but still have familiar mannerisms and clothes. He is aesexual, considering sexual pleasures a waste of time, and not finding any appeal in having children - not that he needs sexual pleasure, as he gets a feeling quite close to it whenever he kills someone he deems "deserving". He loves alchemy and science - he often tinkers around with siege machines before disarming them, and he almost always makes his own poisons. He is very intelligent.

Strength: 5

Dexterity: 20

Constitution: 5

Intelligence: 20

Wisdom: 13

Charisma: 14

WIP

Name: Mugen

Age: 18

Race: Oni

Gender: Male

Birthplace: ONI Town

Physical Traits/Appearance: Mugen looks like a fairly average Oni. He stands at 6'4, and has an athletic build made for fighting. He's got a complete inability to grow facial hair, and he's kinda man-pretty. His blue hair assumes that kinda spiky on its own, and cover the two horns he has on his head. He also has red eyes, and if you look at his teeth, he seems to have a pair of fangs. Early on his journey, somebody told him that most people wear pants instead of a loincloth, so he acquired a pair of trousers to fit in better. He has a pair of triangular shades that he sometimes wears if he wants to look cool. here are some pics .

Clan/Family: Oni don't really have clans.

Occupation: Mercenary

Equipment/Tools:

  • Huge iron mace. It's longer than he is tall, but he can easily swing it around one-handed. It has spikes on it too.

  • Oni Liquor: Incredibly intoxicating alcohol. If anyone but an Oni drinks it, it will most likely kill them. It tastes absolutely vile to anyone who's not an Oni, too. When Oni drink it, they become stronger, but also drunker and clumsier. It's also very flammable, and burns for a long time.

Powers/Abilities:

  • Oni Physiology: As an Oni, Mugen's body is different from a human's. Obviously, there's the horns, red eyes, and fangs. But putting aside cosmetic differences, Mugen has abilities that most humans don't.
    • First of all, he's pretty frikkin strong. He can pick up a man one handed and throw him out the window. And of course, if he hits someone with that mace of his, they're going flying.
    • He's got a healing factor. Under normal circumstances, it only makes him heal slightly faster, though alcohol can speed up the healing process. The main benefit is that it allows him to heal from wounds most people simply couldn't. Oni are almost never crippled in combat, since they can recover from wounds that would make most people unable to fight again. They can grow back severed fingers, and Mugen claims his uncle reattached his arm, though it took a while.
    • Hot Blooded: Oni are creatures of fire. Some say they are related to dragons. They're completely immune to fire. However, cold temperatures will slow them down and disable their healing factor, and they are very susceptible to hypothermia.
    • Alcohol Tolerance: As an Oni, Mugen has an extremely high tolerance. And if he doesn't consume at least a little every day, he'll die. It does speed up his healing factor if he drinks anything above 40% . Small wounds will close in seconds, and even larger ones will stop bleeding so much. Also, if he actually gets drunk, he gets even stronger, and his pain tolerance becomes extremely high. But being drunk makes him actually very amicable, jovial, and kind, so it might not be useful in combat.
    • Durability: Finally, Oni are very durable. Their skin is like leather and their bones are like iron. This means that most of them don't wear armor all that much, since their bodies are pretty much already armored.

  • Proficiency: Mugen wields his mace quite well. He was trained in its use from an early age by his father. He's also okay at unarmed combat. He can throw a punch, and he can grapple people pretty well too.

Background: Mugen hails from ONI Town, deep in the mountains. There, everyone wears loin cloths and leotards and spends all their time working out, fighting, and getting drunk. It's basically a village of professional wrestlers. Society is very traditional and there is a lot of focus on honor and the banchou way.

When an Oni reaches maturity at 17, it is customary for them to go on a journey, working as a mercenary to become a warrior. Mugen is on that journey, and his travels have taken him to the starting town.

@Troy: Drunken immortals?

Also, I have a volunteer event this morning. Will post my character when I am off.

Also, if everyone is gonna do stats, here's my personal scale for it based off the last game (if you guys wanna use your own scale feel free, this is just my personal thinking after all).

10+ - Average in that stat 20+ - Extraordinary 30+ - Supernatural 40+ - Godlike 50+ - Physical God levels of power

...Obviously, we don't want characters starting at 50. tongue

Anyway, just have fun with it really.

Finally I get an opportunity to use this character again!

Name: Yayoi

Age: Around 150 years old

Race: Youkai (Kitsune)

Gender: Female

Birthplace: A fox burrow in a forest somewhere

Appearance: A young-looking woman of around 5'6" height who is often mistaken for a foreigner. Though ordinarily not visible on her person, Yayoi possesses fox ears and two tails.

Clan/Family: Formerly Kozuka

Occupation: Shrine Maiden

Equipment: A sturdy paper lantern, which comes right out of hyperspace. To increase her power, Yayoi generates fire and stores it in the lantern for use later. The lantern gives off a warm light that wards off lesser spirits.

Powers:

  • Quick, with heightened senses (like a fox, obviously).
  • White Fox Transformation: Technically, though, it's her human form that is the transformation.
  • Fox-fire: Can generate and manipulate fox-fire. Generates by breathing it or by knocking her tails together. Once generated, it can be manipulated in her hands. Fox-fire is supernatural and does not spread out of control easily.
  • Disguises: Can transform into various disguises. Consumes fox-fire as an energy source.
  • Fox Shadow Puppetry: By casting a fox hand puppet with the light of her lantern, Yayoi can remotely manipulate objects using her shadow.
  • Web Magic: Possesses limited web magic stolen from Kuroi and stored in her lantern. As long as she can put even a small fragment of web back into her lantern, more will regrow, but if she uses it all up, it's gone for good.
  • Can perform kagura dance and look good while doing it.

Background:

  • When Yayoi turned 100 years old, she transformed into a kitsune and took a human form. After years of wandering, Yayoi sensed a youkai disturbance while passing the village of Takazaki, so she settled there and married a farmer, taking the name "Kozuka" while she waited in vigil.
  • It wasn't long before the disturbance—a spider youkai named Kuroi—made her presence known, leading to a fight. Yayoi's flames could be seen from over the hills as she and Kuroi fought, in an event referred to as the "burning of Takazaki", though no houses were burned down despite popular belief.
  • Though Yayoi succeeded in driving Kuroi away, the other villagers had learned of Yayoi's secret. Yayoi left her husband and ran away into the wilderness. More years passed, with the events at Takazaki becoming highly misinterpreted. Yayoi wound up serving as a priestess protecting a small shrine dedicated to Inari, the kami of foxes and general prosperity.

Miscelleous/Notes (optional): Yayoi is cheerful, and occasionally sly. She enjoys the company of just about anyone, male, female, human, or youkai. She holds her liquor well, but after drinking too much sake her tails and ears will appear.

  • Powers/Abilities:

    • Wind Magic - Can manipulate the wind in various ways with expert skill.

      • Aero-Location - Can manipulate wind currents to let him locate others in a limited radius. Trained.

      • Sensory/Vocal Augmentation - Thanks to his skill, he can use wind to amplify his sense of hearing and smell, as well as project his voice or whisper to someone far away. Trained.

      • Wind Shroud - Can cover himself with a veil of wind, which improves his speed and manueverability, while giving his sword attacks a greater edge of sharpness. Trained.

      • Gale Force: Can use wind to give his attacks more knockback. Swinging his sword while invoking this lets him produce shockwaves. Trained.

    • Spirit Sense - Can sense spirits and other supernatural entities...when it works. Innate.

    • Samurai Training - Has recieved training under a master samurai, making him a formidible opponent.

      • Skilled Swordsman - Is high skilled with swords, mainly katanas, but anything with a blade he can wield welll enough.

  • Background: Not having any memories since before he was 15, he's unsure of most of his beginnings. When he met his former master Shirou, he was taken off the streets and became his student alonside another young man. A few years later during their training, skirmishes as a result of the war broke out near Eto (one of the island's capital cities), where they were staying at the time and ready or not, they had to do their part to help protect the city. Even with their inexperience, both Tarou and his peer fought fairly well and managed to help repel most of the main forces along with their master, but unfortunately, Shirou was killed during the end of the battle. Rentarou is foggy about the exact circumstances regarding this.
  • After Shirou's death, Tarou and his peer having no one left to teach them, they ended up going their own ways, where Rentarou eventually found himself in Sonome, a small mountain village that has managed to remain out of the horrors of the war. Noting that the village lacked any real means of protection, Tarou vowed to stay there and protect them as well as he was able, becoming the village's personal one man army. Over the years, he's taken to a few of the young villagers and decided to teach them some of what he's learned along with basic self-defense.
  • Miscellaneous: It should be noted that even with his side occupation as a teacher, Rentarou is rather quiet and reserved, especially when it comes to personal matters. He also has a bit of a drinking problem, and his tendency to keep his problems inside and to himself only aggravate this more. He is also a lot more forth-coming about himself and his feelings when he's drunk.

    • After gaining sapience from 100 years of life, Mira traveled the land on a looong adventure. She experienced war, peace, romance, and heartbreak; among other things. What she learned from her travels was 1. Don't let alcohol ferment for that long, it might kill a man and 2. it might be a bit cheesy, but humans and spirits should learn to get along better. to that end, she opened up a bar that caters to both. She had to move it a couple times though, so now it's here.
  • Miscellaneous/Notes (optional): Owns a bar in the starting town.

  • Name: Nanaka Ukitsu
  • Age: 17
  • Race: Half kitsune Half human, though he himself believes he's only human.
  • Gender: Male
  • Birthplace: (?)
  • Physical Traits/Appearance: (oh yeah, nanaka's on left mira's on right)
  • Clan/Family: Ukitsu.
  • Occupation: Your character’s job.
  • Equipment/Tools: A magic metal folding fan that amplifies the power of fire. It's actually one of Mira's tails, but Nanaka doesn't know this.
  • Powers/Abilities:
    • Combat prowess: Was taught how to fight using his fan by Mira. He's pretty good, but has no real battle experience.
    • Latent magical ability: He has similar magical abilities to Mira (though much less strong), but for some unknown reason they're sealed away.
  • Background:
    • One day a kitsune woman came to Mira for help. She was being chased by someone, or something, and wanted a safe place to stay with her infant child. Mira accepted, and the two women quickly became friends. They raised the baby together for a few years before the woman disappeared. Mira searched for a while, knowing she wouldn't just disappear and abandon her child, but she was nowhere to be found. Mira then resolved to raise the child herself.
    • That child was Nanaka. (dun dun DUN. what a twist.) The rest of his life he stayed with Mira, who he considers his aunt. To make things easier on him, she raised him as a human to prevent possible ill intent from the nearby village. He knows part of the above story, but there's definitely things he's missing...
  • Miscellaneous/Notes (optional): He knows spirits exist, he just doesn't know he is one. (Partially).

  • Name: Ren
  • Age: physically (13), technically (25)
  • Race: Half-youkai (Hanyo - Kinda) note
  • Gender: Male
  • Birthplace: Born on the islands city of Kynata though was raised in a secluded noble estate on the western foreign isles of Raeland.
  • Physical Traits/Appearance: Standing at a height of only 4ft 11 inches tall and being rather light. Their skin is quite pale as is their golden blonde hair. A pair of emerald, jewel like eyes that seem unnaturally beautiful. Near identical to their twin sister. Dressed in dark fine frilled noble outfits that oddly never seem to dirty themselves, at-least for very long. Ren's hair is decently long, able to cover his eyes if he is not careful. Neither of them having the forethought of how many different ways they're gonna look out of place. PIC: Ren's on the left hand side.
  • Clan/Family: House Nightsong, a landed family from Raeland who are primarily scholars who have dabbled in the occult.
  • Occupation: Young noble; acolyte priest and physician doctor.
  • Equipment/Tools: Clothes, bag, a dagger, quite a lot of money, waterskin, a silver jeweled rosarynote , medical supplies, tools and pre-mixed common medicines.
  • Powers/Abilities: Skills, magic, or abilities your character uses.
    • Youkai-link: Both Ren and Mana are tainted and corrupted; it has left them with an unnatural bond. Whenever one gets hurt the other immediately knows and feels the pain as well as if they were the one to get hurt. In addition neither of them can age any further, if this makes them ageless and or immortal is unknown. Being part youkai themselves they are both keenly able to see apparitions and youkai who would normally be invisible to a human eye. The bond has one final effect, the two of them fall rather weak and sick if kept separated for too long.
    • Talisman sense Due to a ritual performed which for some reason Mana could not pull off but Ren could, he is attuned and able to with a little bit of effort sense the direction or at-least clues relating to the Talismen they are searching for to break their curse.
    • Medical skills: Ren has studied and trained in health, anatomy, herbalism/medicine, and similar. Having trained under the houses physician in becoming a doctor.
    • Stewardship skills: Ren knows about and can do stewardship and accounting decently well, capable of running a business and getting a good price in trades. (Someone had to take care of the estate while Mana was studying)
  • Background: Both born on an ominous full moon night in Kynata, to a pair of highly religious nobles from the rainy, western, island state of Raeland who were visiting to meet with some family. Born were the pair of beautiful twin children, one a boy and one a girl though none took notice of the dark omens.
Years went by and they grew up regular high-class children, given a education and luxuries they could desire; maybe a little spoiled at times.. This was till they turned thirteen and both started having weird dreams and sensations that only worsened when they were apart and soon it became clear as the two of them had ceased to age.
For some this would have been awesome but being stuck as a kid for one certainly made it difficult for the two of them to accept and they began to search for the cause which was quickly discovered, the two being infused and tainted by youkai. Years of searching it took before they discovered a clue to undo their affliction, a ritual to track a powerful talisman that could break the curse; its first clue was to return to back to the islands they were both born.

  • Name: Mana
  • Age: physically (13), technically (25)
  • Race: Half-youkai (Hanyo - Kinda) note
  • Gender: Female
  • Birthplace: Born on the islands city of Kynata though was raised in a secluded noble estate on the western foreign isles of Raeland.
  • Physical Traits/Appearance: Standing at a height of only 4ft 11 inches tall and being rather light. Their skin is quite pale as is their golden blonde hair. A pair of emerald, jewel like eyes that seem unnaturally beautiful. Near identical to their twin brother. Dressed in dark fine frilled noble outfits that oddly never seem to dirty themselves, at-least for very long. Mana's hair is rather long and curled and is accessorized by a black bow. Neither of them having the forethought of how many different ways they're gonna look out of place. PIC: Mana's on the right hand side.
  • Clan/Family: House Nightsong, a landed family from Raeland who are primarily scholars who have dabbled in the occult.
  • Occupation: Young noble; sorceress and a bit of a musician.
  • Equipment/Tools: Occult spell-tome, a dagger, clothes, bag, a wooden flute, pouch of paper, ink and quills, chalk, charcoal, a empty notebook, waterskin, a little bit of money and Haruka. ((A finely bred riding horse who is also carrying a pair of bedrolls, blankets, colder-weather clothes, some basic maps and a compass. Plus of-course riding saddle, harness, ect...))
  • Powers/Abilities: Skills, magic, or abilities your character uses.
    • Youkai-link: Refer to Ren's section for details.
    • Western spellcraft: Mana is a capable sorcerer of western magic. Her primary focus is on summoning spirit creatures for aid though she has studied various fields of magic. Making her capable of casting a variety of magic given enough time and materials. Expect a lot of incantations from her castings.
    • Performer: While as part of their noble training both Ren and Mana were trained in dancing and singing and both are skilled in each. Mana is definitely the superior performer, being skilled in many different instruments in addition to her dancing and singing skills.
  • Background: Refer to Ren's backstory, for what I am going reveal they are identical.

  • Miscellaneous/Notes for both characters
    • Their parents died a few years ago leaving the estate and it's wealth to the two "kids". Due to their absence and "lack of maturity" it is currently ruled over in regency by their cousin Christian though Ren has done substantial work in maintaining the land and its demise. (Likely wont be important for the game, we are far away but its worth mentioning.)
    • Both are capable of reading and writing in a number of languages including old scripture, they had a lot of study they did to learn more about their condition and they are both fluently able to speak two languages (that of our pseudo-japan and that of Raeland ).
    • When I said in the description their clothes never seemed dirty for long I meant that. Due to some warding put into them they are slightly warded for defense; making them like a suit of weak armor, and to repair and clean themselves automatically. Something done quite a long time ago by Mana during her training.
    • Just because Ren has a Wakazashi and both have daggers doesn't mean they are proficient in using them. Its not something their homeland focused on very much, Ren simply carries it since he has no other mean of reliable offense otherwise though he isn't completely useless.
    • Note for other players: If anyone would be interested in being hired as a bit of a guard, since neither Ren or Mana are particularly good in a fight, it is something that is viable either pregame or in game. A cool idea at-least for trying to band together characters. They are not defenseless but neither of them are great fighters, they function better as support.
    • Personal musing: The fact they are so blatantly foreigners in appearance, accent, clothing, surname (though their forenames are actually japanese names) and appear well-off should make for some interesting plots and reactions. Equally their appeared age should have reactions; especially when their advance skills are shown. Though it is important to note that in feudal japan the age of adulthood and of making people true samurai was anywhere from age 10 to 20 depending on the current political climate and wars so all things said while young it is not inconceivably young by the setting and I find the idea of doing a reverse Immortality plot based around Not Growing Up Sucks to be a fascinating core concept.
    • Edited:' I gave both of them a significant nerf, not because I thought they were overpowered but for development as the game goes on. Plus to give them more of a focus as the game goes on at the fact Ren will feel like The Load compared to everyone else especially his sister. Ren will still likely though slowly develop some white magic and Mana's magic may veer more towards darker corruption that will need to be kept in check.

  • Name: Suitsuki Tsugi
  • Age: 24 (Physically), 54 (Real Age)
  • Race: Okami/Ameonna
  • Gender: Female
  • Birthplace: Mitsumine Shrine
  • Physical Traits/Appearance:
    • (In human form), Tsugi has short white hair and is often seen wearing a white kimono. She has cool blue eyes that may feel cold to a stranger. She is almost four feet tall and has a cute, small face. You could also say that she is a bit of a petanko.
    • (In semi-human form), there will be two noticeable ears on the top of her head almost as white as her hair but a little darker - maybe dirtier - and a tail that will sprout from behind having the same white fur as those of her ears.
    • (In wolf form), Tsugi becomes a lithe, white wolf with the exact same blue eyes... except they're a little more wolf-like.
    • (In cloud form), she looks like a cloud. :3
  • Clan/Family: Some little-known clan (if any)
  • Occupation: Wanderer, Shrine Maiden (occasional (lol))
  • Equipment/Tools: An umbrella with a floral design depicting cherry blossom leaves that fall under the rain (to keep the rain out).
  • Powers/Abilities:
    • Good fortune: (or so the farmers say)
    • Rain-making: Not really a voluntary ability (since she does dislike rain or used to). This gives her the power to make it rain wherever she goes (though not inside structures and the like). This ability is dormant when she is not in human form.
    • Transformation: She can change between wolf, human, semi-human, and cloud.
    • Divinity: She gives off a different aura (if they can read it) than spirits.
    • Spiritual Sense: She can detect spiritual energies. Although, she cannot pinpoint where exactly the energy comes from, Tsugi feels the general direction or merely the presence of it.
    • Enhanced Senses (Wolf and Semi-human form): Tsugi can smell and hear better. Sight is debatable since she has better close-ranged sight but poorer when the object is far away. She also has better vision in the dark. This ability is prominent in wolf form but quite mild in semi-human form.
  • Background:
    • Tsugi is a rain deity who was born near the shrine of Mitsumine. The area frequently sees many fires and thefts. As a general rule, deities are not allowed to meddle in the mortal world directly. Tsugi, though, always took an interest to the joys and woes of all that lived there and she satisfied herself by watching the wolves that protected the people of the nearby town from such calamities and she eventually came to develop a certain admiration - almost reverence - for them. Sometimes, she even (discreetly) helps the wolves to contain fires. and in time, she grew close to them.
    • A day came when a huge fire ravaged the forest and threatened to raze down the shrine and the town. The wolves tried their best to extinguish the flames but to little effect. Tsugi, try as she might, suffered the same fate and soon it became apparent that there was no stopping the fires.
    • In her desperation, Tsugi gave up her divinity, taking the form of a wolf and with the other wolves fought the fire as fierce as the fire itself... but still, to no avail. The fire left her drained of all will and spirit and Tsugi found herself on the brink of death. The other rain deities, at first apathetic to the mortal world, took notice of their former sister. With little effort, they killed the fires that had already burned down more than half of the forest and a rather large part of the town. However, that would be the last of their interactions in the mortal world and that - now - included Tsugi.
    • Unable to return to her divine self, haunted by memories of the fire that almost killed her, and mostly unwanted by the mortal world - since she brought rain wherever she went, Tsugi wandered Japan for close to 30 years in search of something she herself did not know. She retreated into herself and finally rested in Yakushima where forests (now rainforests) stretch out as far as the eye could see. After much meditation, she finally found peace - which is also incidentally the thing she had been looking for. Seeing nothing more to do in Yakushima, she left and decided to somehow live the life she chose when she first decided to join the mortal world by becoming a shrine maiden of sorts (It's more of a sideline occupation that she practices when she feels like it).
  • Miscellaneous/Notes: She dislikes foxes. (Being a wolf - or wolf-like - and all). Also, having avoided people for the past years because her rains were unwanted, she is seen as detached and secretive by most. She also has a habit of licking rain droplets from her hands (this is part of ameonna legend so she may be discovered in this manner).

Finally got this going, sorry it took so long.

Name: Yamada the Guardian

Age: 124 years (looks to be in early 20's)

Race: Okami

Gender: Male

Birthplace: Mountain Shrine of Raijin and Fujin

Physical Traits / Appearance: Yamada is 5'9" and weighs aroudn 176 lbs. He has shaggy black hair that reaches down just past his shoulders, tan skin, and light green eyes. Due to his Okami nature, he has fangs, but one of them is missing, and he generally holds a neutral or sullen expression.

Yamada dresses very lightly, wearing not much more than a pair of cloth pants tied with rope with a single katana at his side, which was crafted from his missing tooth and is called (somewhat unimaginatively) "Fang."

Clan/Family: The Guardians of the Mountain - a pack of Okami tasked with defending the Shrine that is their home and the surrounding villages of the Mountain. Due to internal strife, their duties have fallen to the wayside to a point.

Occupation: Wandering Swordsman / Mercenary

Equipment/Tools: "Fang" - Yamada's sword, crafted from his own tooth. Has spiritual properties and does not need to be maintained. This does not mean it is unbreakable, however.

Powers/Abilities

Skilled Swordsman - The Guardians are warriors, and Yamada is no exception. Years of battle experience have also honed his skill to a (literal and figurative) razor's edge.

Spirit Sense - Yamada can sense other spirits and supernatural entities through their presence and their aura, and can also manipulate his own aura.

Spiritual Constitution - Yamada has the physical and spiritual resistances of a spirit, regardless of his current form. He can take damage well beyond the threshold of a normal person, and is more resilient against toxins.

Gift of a the Storm - The Guardians worship the gods Raijin and Fujin, and have been gifted with a portion of their powers. Yamada has limited control, therefore, of wind and lightning, as well as a few more specific abilities.

Wind Step - By using his wind control and some basic spellwork (as taught by his mother, Anju) Yamada can temporarily convert his entire being into wind. This ability only lasts for a few seconds at most, and can be used to escape a foe or move around the battlefield quickly. In this temporary wind form, Yamada's aura and spiritual presence are more prominent (because of the primeval nature of the form) and he cannot make any kind of physical action until he returns to his normal form.

Lightning Strike - An ability that imbues Yamada's with electricity for as long as he has the strength to maintain it. He can also channel this electricity into a ranged attack.

Wind Wall - Yamada utilizes his wind control to form a wall of pressurized air that can stop physical projectiles and slow down foes that try to pass through it. This ability requires, at his skill level, concentrated effort to maintain and can be exhausting if held for too long.

Wind Strike - Yamada imbues his attacks with wind, granting him a boost to speed.

Partial Transformation - Wolf - Yamada grows the ears and tail of a wolf and his strength and speed increase. His hair turns gray in color (the ears and tail matching this) with small bits of black at the tip of his ears and tails as if they had been dipped in ink. His hands also become more clawlike, with gray fur growing up to the middle of his forearms.

Full Transfomation - Wolf - Yamada becomes a wolf that is as tall on four legs as he is in his human form. His fur is gray (except for the tips of his ears and tail). He loses the ability to speak in this form, and has trouble communicating spiritually with other spirits.

Background - Yamada was born to Kyrie, the third pack alpha to the Guardians, and Anju, his wife and life-mate, and was taught by both that the true path to being a Guardian was to put the mountain, and the people that live around it, ahead of his own life. To protect those that would need protection and smite those who would seek to smite either. This point of view would often cause him to butt heads with his elder brother, who would become the fourth Guardian.

After the death of their shared father, Yamada and his brother would only grow further apart until, at the age of 104, Yamada would leave the pack on a forced exile to wander on his own. He would spend the next 20 years fighting and protecting people all around the island, participating in several battles between warring factions of humans, spirits, and everything in between.

During his travels, Yamada came across a young Maneki-neko, and has been her constant companion and defender from harm. This relationship is partially against his will, however, as the young spirit seems to cling to him.

Miscellaneous/Notes: Yamada has lived the life of a soldier and protector for most of it, and so he has never truly experienced some of the softer or more pleasant aspects of life, such as good friends, love, and true peace.

Name: Koneko the Stray

Age: 103 years

Race: Maneki-neko

Gender: Female

Birthplace: Unknown

Physical Traits/Appearance: Koneko looks to be around 10 years old, with short, tabby colored (orange, with yellow striations) hair. She is 3'9" and incredibly (almost unnaturally) light at around 45 lbs. Her eyes are amber in color.

Koneko wears a shirt that is several sizes too large for her and a pair of cloth shorts (that are usually hidden by the shirt). She has a coin on a leather strip that she wears as a necklace at all times, even when transformed.

Clan/Family: Unknown

Occupation: Stray

Equipment/Tools: None

Powers/Abilities

Street Knowledge - Koneko has a tendency, despite her seemingly innocent and somewhat ditzy nature, to eavesdrop in the places she wanders, making her privy so information she might not normally have access to (gossip, etc).

Uncanny Luck - Koneko, being a Maneki-neko, has the innate ability to alter probabilities in unexpected ways. However, she (as of yet) has no real control over this power, meaning that she can only subconsciously manipulate things at random, though generally this works out in her favor in one way or another.

Partial Tranformation - Cat - Koneko can partially transform herself (through Yamada's instruction), growing ears and a bobtail (the latter of which is generally hidden under her clothing), one ear of which has a small chunk missing from it. Additionally, her eyes become more feline, her teeth and claws get sharper, and she grows whiskers.

Full Transformation - Cat - Koneko becomes a normal sized tabby cat with a bobtail.

Background: Koneko has only been a spirit for the last three years, and she has only been travelling with Yamada for the last six months, though she remembers her entire life as a stray cat before hand. While she puts off a childlike naivete, her difficulties in life have made her wise when it counts.

While she has always been lucky, her newly gained status as a spirit only makes her luckier, though she has no refined control (or knowledge of anything surpernatural going on) over it.

Miscellaneous/Notes: Koneko is attached to Yamada because of her want for a companionship and the fact that he is a spirit like she is. She is not a fighter, however, and so has to rely on Yamada (or others) to protect her during confrontations. Her "Uncanny Luck" ability affects others around her as well, through subconscious control (variable, GM has final say on crazy things happening of course XD)

Name: Kotone “Bubbles” Awa

Age: 212

Race: Yokai Kawauso

Gender: Agender, “they”/”them”/“their”

Birthplace: An unnamed tidal cave

Appearance: 5’2”, ambiguously brown skin, an impish, almost childlike face, rather androgynous, if slightly feminine features, almost always smiling, dark brown markings along their face and arms

Clan/Family: None, only has her quite large adopted family of friends

Occupation: Thief for hire, fisher

Equipment/Tools: Long brown robe with lots of pockets charmed with a spell of holding, often containing whatever shiny things catch their eye, also often full of fish bones, rocks, and shells, they also wear steel gauntlets, but those are mostly for a general aesthetic. Powers/Abilities: Excellent swimmer, able to control steam, ice, and liquid water, able to transform to and from a sea otter when need be, has heat and cold resistant, trained in stealth, and in the arts of parkour and tessenjutsu.

Background: Kotone has no memory of their parents, who presumably either abandoned them or were killed while they were still an otter pup. They lived a rather playful life, sustaining themselves mostly by doing tricks for the amusement of local anglers, eventually earning the respect of one of them and being taken into his home, where Kotone would often play with his children and, later, his children’s children, and so on, staying with the family until their hundredth year, when they transformed into a yokai. Taking a human form, the playful little spirit took off for a nearby town, where they’ve lived ever since, though they often check in on the descendants of the family who looked after them.

Occupation Messenger/Spy

Clan The Hikari clan of Kitsune (who served largely as spies for hire) (He is the last remaining member)

Equipment Black and orange cloak, matching ceremonial robes, charcoal black vest, plain shirt, slightly baggy pants, several worn and tattered spell books, an ancient rune-inscribed bö, a gunsen, a tessen, a matching pair of sais, several bundles of dried herbs, roots, and spices, and a small moneybag.

Prior to becoming a yökai on his hundredth year, he grew up with the rest of his clan in a village at the side of a lake, serving as a messenger and beginning his espionage training with his clan. When he matured, he left his family and tried his hand at traveling. After escaping a few decades being captive and tortured at the Blackwater Academy (a school for dark and mysterious magical arts), he left the island for a century and a half or so, returning with several books of spells and potions, and a quite extensive knowledge of fire, light, and illusion magic. From this point, he traveled around the island once more, trying to settle down, eventually finding a semi-permanent home in the woodlands where he lived quite comfortably on his own until humans began to encroach, at which point he found his way back to Sonome, which had served as a sanctuary of sorts for him several times in the past.

I have a third character to intro, but it'll be down the road.

Cool. Now, here's my second.

  • Name: Minami Kujou

  • Age: 16

  • Race: Human

  • Gender: Female

  • Birthplace: Sonome Village

  • Physical Traits/Appearance: Is about 5’6” and 119 lbs. She has long, purple hair, pink eyes, and a very slight tan. Her body is rather slender, but she’s got strong arms from her smith training. At home, she wears a pink and purple kimono emblazoned with the Kujoo family crest, her hair in a bun bound with hair sticks, a red scarf tied around her neck and sandals. When working, she wears a red, sleeveless top, two red ribbons in her hair to bind it in a ponytail, her red scarf, dark cloth pants, and boots.

  • Clan/Family: Kujou Family

  • Occupation: Heiress/Tailor/Blacksmith in training

  • Equipment/Tools: Satchel containing sewing equipment and cloth, a few scrolls, Kujou Family medallion.

  • Powers/Abilities:

    • Acute Spirit Sense - Can detect the presence of spirits and otherworldly phenomena fairly easily.

    • Skilled Tailor - Is very skilled in the use of textiles and other related material.

    • Skilled Smith - Although still learning, she is rather skilled at crafting weaponry.

    • Spiritcrafting - Because of her natural attunement to spirits in general, she can establish links with them and use their power and infuse the objects she creates with it to strengthen them.

    • Linguist - Knows multiple languages

  • Background: Minami was born to Kasumi and Minato Kujou, current heads of the renowned Kujou family of tailors. She is the oldest of two children, her brother Kazuki trailing a few years behind her. With her family’s wealth, Minami and her brother were given the best of the best for most of their lives and as a result, grew up quite sheltered. While other kids were often out playing and being kids, Minami and her brother we’re often inside with one of their many tutors or teachers, being taught a variety of subjects.

  • In general, much of Minami’s life has been decided for her, which isn’t uncommon for the heirs of the Kujou clan. They are expected to be well-rounded and proficient in many types of tailoring, as well as well-versed in language. While she’s not exactly happy about all of this being forced on her, because of how she was raised, she’s not the sort to go against her parent’s wishes, and deigns to do what they expect of her...initially. For a few months now, she has been secretly apprenticing as a blacksmith, after discovering and developing an interest in the trade, the first thing she’s actually done and chose to do for herself and enjoys.

  • With the discovery of this, perhaps over time she will discover more that she wants for herself and not what others want for her…

  • Miscellaneous/Notes (optional):

And now that he's posted, the game shall be up soon. Keep an eye out.

Old habits die hard, especially when no one else lets them die either.
