A thread for discussing representation and diversity in all kinds of media. This covers creators and casting decisions as well as characters and in-universe discussions.
Historical works and decisions are in-scope as well, not just recent news.
Please put any spoilers behind tags and clearly state which work(s) they apply to.
This week, producer Ross Putnam started a Twitter account called "femscriptintros", where he puts up examples of how women are introduced in the screenplays he's read. And nearly all of sound like terrible porn or are too concerned with emphasizing said lady is beautiful despite whatever traits she may have. Here's a Take Two podcast made today where he talks about it.

As much as I'd like it I doubt we will actually get a Nextwave movie. Something that actively mocks their franchise doesn't sound "safe" enough for the MCU, unless they make it under the formerly-Fox imprint a la Deadpool.
Moved from the Marvel thread.
We had an interesting conversation going, and I'd like add my two sense
So in the current political climate I think pressures from extremists/islamophobes might put actresses off from considering the role of Kamala Khan were they offered it,then you've got the pressures of taking the role when they don't line up exactly with the comic book's,I mean it's important they get the most basic parts of her background right so they're true to the character, but even the smallest of differences are scrutinised adding to further pressure.
In the end I hope whoever is chosen for role doesn't immediately to come to regret it because of what comes with it

If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them. From what I'm reading, it sounds the conventions didn't even contact her management for a reunion?
Nonetheless, you know what they say, "Once is an Accident, Twice is a Coincidence, Three Times is a Pattern."

Oh no, that’s awful.
Utterly upsetting and infuriating. I hope he recovers and his attackers punished.
That's awful. And to attempt it with a rope too?
Disgusting.

It is the height of privilege to say that civil rights struggles are a matter of history.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Let me guess: Trump's response was to claim that civil rights struggles are a matter of history.
Funny you should mention that. Supposedly, he said his attackers shouted "MAGA country"
Guess what that means?

A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Every Youtube comment on videos of the story is of course decrying this as a "bullshit liberal conspiracy", while Twitter has been showing their love and support.
Honestly, this thing even occuring is infurating as hell for me. Prayers and love for Jussie.
Love tearing bad movies to shreds? Join us every night at 8 PMSuddenly thinking of the time Trump had to do a backpedal press conference to tell everyone "racism is wrong" (after his infamous "fine people on both sides" comment), and tacked on "including the KKK", almost as an afterthought.
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.I am so disgusted, angry, scared and sad about what happened to Jussie. I nearly cried. These are the kind of traumatic events that induce PTSD. Prayers for him and I’m so glad he’s alive. This could have been an even more tragic story then it already is. He really deserved so much better than this.
Salim Akhil, Black Lightning's showrunner, has been cleared of abuse and assault allegations.
“When litigation came to us, Warner [Bros] did the appropriate thing and did an investigation on the set… and there is no world where that is not a safe place, there were no wrongdoings found,” he said during his executive session at TCA. “He had a personal issue that is nothing to do with the show. The show, as far as we’re concerned, is that Salim, the other producers, the cast and the crew, they deserve to work.”
I'm torn on this. On the one hand he was cleared and it appears he didn't abuse or assault anyone involved with the show. On the other hand, it appears they didn't look into this case more in depth because the matter had nothing to do with the show.
Given that it was an actress who raised complaint, if it wasn't an issue on this set it might've been on another, which would make it work-related.
This is petty, and huge case of Don't Shoot the Message, but... I found this video from the cast of Supernatural kind of unintentionally hilarious.
For context, it's part of CW's "Open to All" campaign, and it has... four straight (presumably, I know 3/4 of them are married to women), white, male actors talking about how they're all for diversity and inclusion.
Just... was odd.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I constantly forget that "Supernatural" is even still on.

New theme music also a boxThe Apocalypse could happen tomorrow and Supernatural still wouldn't end.
Monica Rambeau was also pretty pivotal in The Ultimates (not the repugnant Mark Millar version). I hope the MCU does her justice because she is basically one of the most powerful heroes ever conceived. It’s pretty hard to outmatch someone who can move at lightspeed.
