What's the current plan for revamping Headscratchers? Using the old Troper Tales code was brought up a couple years ago, but it never went anywhere.
So will TV Tropes 3.0 have another completely new design?
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."And everybody just got used to this one...
It seems rather wasteful to come up with a completely new site design and then just jettison it a year later.
The whole new system I'm reading about here doesn't seem very easy, either.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I don't think this thread relates to the new design. Have a sneak peak at dragon.tvtropes.org (user: tropes, password: kickstarter105). Keep in mind, Dragon runs on an old copy of the database and has tons of error checking going on.

There isn't one yet. Though I expect one soon.
I gotta admit, I don't really like the design. It's starting to look even more like any other site on the Net than this one did. And why did we need to monkey with the logo?
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Anything particular you don't like?
There's just something very, very off about it. I can't explain just what it is... It's just the general look of the site.
I think there should be a thread announcing the new design - let everyone try it out before it launches so everyone can air their opinions on what works and what doesn't.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Can I just say I'm glad we have a countdown this time? Last one caught me off guard.
Whoever came up with that, thank you.
I'm baaaaaaackWhy would I have adult fear of the new TV Tropes?
Good question.
I greatly dislike this new design. No offense, but it seems like you guys are trying to fix what isn't actually broken. Also, I think letting people put comments under the trope pages is an awful idea.
What we need is a post explaining the rationale for the changes. The core of TVT remains, but we're making the design more modern, overhauling the code beneath it, and adding a lot more social features to the visible interface.
Our current minimalist approach conceals an engine that is just plain broken.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"This is minimalist?... The old, old design was minimalist.
I thought the first new design was trying to fix a broken site. Now it's still broken. I expect in another year the site will still be as broken as ever.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Well, that's lovely. Anything nice to say?
If we wanted people to dump on us, we'd reach out to Tumblr or something. Feedback is more than just, "this sucks".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's hard for me not to be cynical.
But seriously, I thought the last retool the site went through was to fix the fact that the site was broken. What happened?
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."It's an insanely complicated site, still in need of an overhaul at the database layer. We are trying to make it more user friendly to encourage more tropers to contribute. This design and the one before are not very inviting to new users. Our goal with the new design is to make it more inviting.

I think the design we have now is user-friendly enough. But to each his own.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Colloquially, the site is a mess under the hood. A cosmetic makeover doesn't change that much. Dragon is an overhaul of an enormous chunk of the code base that, most importantly, gives us a platform to build on. There is also a huge list of tech items and wishlist items that we are addressing.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"New design doesn't look too bad. Just as long as there's an option to put the tools and such on the left, I think it will be easy enough to get used to.
Most of the stuff I'm worried about isn't design, but some of the workshop changes. Fighteer mentioned an overhaul for Image Pickin' a while back that didn't seem like a great idea. But that's probably something to figure out closer to the launch.
Speaking of the launch, where's this countdown that Joesolo mentioned? I'm not seeing it anywhere on either site.
This is not the "2.0" site redesign that we've been talking about elsewhere.
Frankly, if you're pissed off about the stuff we're doing in Dragon now, the staff will probably have to move to Timbuktu when you see what we have in mind for the next major update.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Is it okay to talk about the 3.0 design here? I might have maybe hammered out a multibulleted dissertation on the subject, but I don't want to derail the thread.
(Was there a beta section? I forget. I think I might have beta rights. I forget. Couldn't be arsed to check. Can be arsed to write a multibulleted dissertation at four in the sodding morning, apparently. Apologies.)
Is there a list of wishlist/techlist features being added with the updated?

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Clarification: this topic is about the way off in the future new site. However, what Drew announced in it earlier is the beta site update on Dragon, which is not "TV Tropes 2.0".
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Headscratchers is a bit of a special case. WMG and Moments are not discussions at all so it's unlikely that they'll join into this system.
