The library is a place to be quiet

"You guys are planning on leaving? Now?" the woman from the ice tunneling group was blocking the path of Legion, Adam, and those with them at the bottom of the stairs. "The city's not a frozen hellscape anymore, so they're a lot better off already. Besides, it's still pretty dark out there, and we all need some rest sooner or later. Wouldn't it be a better idea to wait until it's daytime?" she pointed out, and shook her head slightly.

A British accented voice spoke up near the fire. "Yes I must say there's a time and place for-" Sir Redring was interrupted by a sudden scream as he was standing up near the fire, which startled him into a combat ready pose. "What ho?! If there's a fight to be had I'll show them what for! What's happening?" he asked, looking around. The scream had come from the young lady he'd been accompanying, who was staring at him wide eyed.

Sir Redring then looked down at himself and his tentacle arms to realize that he'd shifted into a much darker colored, spike covered, and just generally more menacing looking version of himself. "Oh, I see... Terribly sorry about that" Sir Redring muttered, curling himself up somewhat to try and look less threatening; he generally looked like some kind of spiked ball with a couple of eyes. "Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, I think it's time for rest; come morning we will see how the rest of the city is faring" he suggested.

It would be up to those there to decide whether they were going to rest in the library for the night or go out searching through the woods, but those who took the latter wouldn't find much other than some strange mushrooms and a good look at the local not!trees. Sometime later Ben, Rex, and Twilight would eventually show up after failing to find the others. Slowly, time passed, and the light from the sky started to turn an orange hue...

Rick's medieval laboratory

The wolf man shook his head. "That freaky time stop thing with the swirly vision happens to everyone. Last time it happened is when it started snowing in the city; seems to come every midnight" the wolf man answered Kieri, and glanced around. "The building looks pretty different now, so come inside quick! Maybe he won't recognize the place, if he doesn't see any of us hanging around outside" he suggested urgently.

Whenever Kieri did choose to come back inside, everyone in the lab settled in for some rest. Bearing in mind what Rick had said about his stuff, most of the civvie types went to one of the upper floors to sleep, away from his lab things; besides, that's where the bedrooms were in this former apartment building anyway. In time, the sky started to turn orange with the sunless sunrise...

Library, sometime later

There was another blur in the air, and Miss Tairee appeared. But gone was her usual secretary outfit and fake glasses, and instead she was wearing a very ornate, pink, and frilly dress, plus a pink cone hennin on her headnote  with transparent pink veils hanging down from the end of it behind her. Miss Tairee did not exactly look pleased to be wearing the outfit, and she looked even less pleased after she looked around the lobby of the library. "What did y'all- was that a fire? Ugh, right, winter day" Miss Tairee said to herself, sighing as some of the ice tunneling group started to rouse from their sleep in confusion.

"This is gonna be a right mess to-" Miss Tairee stopped as she walked over to her desk, staring at where her computer normally was. Instead there was a large tome, with a quill pen in a bottle of ink sitting next to it. After staring at it a moment, she rifled through her dress and pulled something out of an inner pocket; another, smaller book, plus another quill pen.

"DAMN IT DAG NAM IT DAG DAMN NAM IT!" Miss Tairee started yelling, kicking at the side of the desk with a fancy, pink high heel shoe while making a string of Southern-flavored obscenities. The lot of civvies in the library were waking up now, all very confused.

"Well, let us make this a full party then, gentlemen!" Plague Knight said, approaching the growing group. "For some reason, this day's circumstances remind me a bit of my own world and I wish to see if reality matches the nostalgia." It was then the women of the ice tunneling group reminded everyone it was the dead of night at this point and thus be better to rest.

In the morning, Plague Knight saw Miss Tairee return......and saw her wear a dress with a gaudy amount of frills and pink that no sane lady of the court would be caught wearing.

"Well.....certainly nice to see you again......your highness......." he said in a disjointed manner. "*pft* *khnrck* PHA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!" he laughed and pointed at the librarian.

The library

Ben, as Dragonfly, was unable to locate Rick's lab and so, before he turned back into human form, he managed to find and return to the library, now a great tower full of books. As soon as Dragonfly touched down in the library, the Omnitrix let out clock-like chimes representing the beeping that would normally occur, and the crystal shifted from green to red. Finally, he was enveloped in red light and his silhouette shrunk back down to human form. He crystal, now red rather than green, sat dormant once again as Ben became human once more. As soon as he turned human again, he yawned, so tired that he slumped against the desk and nodded off.

In the morning, Ben was sleeping rather peacefully against the desk when he was suddenly shaken awake by Miss Tairee slamming her foot against the desk loudly. Ben jumped up, startled, then looked over at Miss Tairee as he breathed rather heavily. "Miss Tairee!" he exclaimed. "Where were you last night? And what was that?!" he asked, looking rightfully baffled.

Library

"That's Miss Tairee?" the woman from the ice tunneling group said, her expression a bit confused. "I was expecting... Something else." She motioned to the other members of the ice tunneling group and they started whispering to each other in a huddle.

Miss Tairee stopped her stomping and took a few deep breaths before looking at Ben. "What? Yesterday?... I took the day off" Miss Tairee said, trying her best to get back to a normal composure and ignore Plague Knight. It clearly wasn't working that well and she looked about ready to start kicking something again; probably Plague Knight. "My boss wanted to see how you would all react to an extremely hostile climate... From what I heard, it did not go well" she added, turning her gaze away from Ben and to the tome at the desk.

"Now I've got to fix this mess in the library; was there something you needed help with?" Miss Tairee asked, sounding like she could use an aspiring or something similar as she stepped over to the tome and carefully sat down in her dress.

While everybody else slept, Darth Marr was sitting in deep meditation, those who paid attention would notice Marr was glowing a small red aura.

When Miss Tairre appeared and unleashed her anger, the Sith paid attention and got up, his red aura disappeared, before walking to where Ben and Tairre were, each step clanking due to his plate armor.

"Child, you know this woman?" He asked Ben.

The library

Ben winced a bit when he saw how irritated Miss Tairee was, and shook his head a bit. "I tried to stop them but they didn't listen to me," he muttered, sounding a bit miffed himself at the mob that had threatened Miss Tairee and caused this mess in the library. "I'm sorry," he sighed. He then moved away from the desk lest Miss Tairee continue to kick it and leaned against one of the bookshelves that didn't get knocked down or burnt up yesterday. He rubbed his eyes, still tired but there was no way he was gonna get back to sleep with the commotion that now permeated the library's first floor.

When Darth Marr asked if Ben knew Miss Tairee, he simply nodded. "Yeah. I met her on the first day and she's been really nice to us even though she's been, y'know, keeping us here. But that's not her idea, that's her boss's idea." He crossed his arms. "I still wanna find a way to speak to that boss of hers myself and give them a piece of my mind!"

Morning, somewhere in the magical forest

Morty blinked and yawned as he cracked open his eyes. "Mmmm... uh... what, uh, what happened last night?" He stared sleepily around at the weird scenery as jumbled thoughts slowly reasserted themselves in his mind. The sudden realization that he had died last night and only survived because of the bizarre rules of this miniature reality suddenly came crashing back down onto him with all the subtlety of an elephant in a china shop. Morty looked around at the unfamiliar forest clearing, the unfamiliar yet whimsical toadstools note  that had sprung up in the middle of the grove... and the all-too-familiar shape of his grandfather snoring noisily against the crook of a tree, makeshift spear lying discarded at his feet. The fact that Rick's inseparable flask was currently completely empty and lying at his feet told everything Morty needed to know.

"Rick! Wake up!" Morty shook his grandfather by the shoulders; after a few seconds Rick cracked open one bloodshot eye and stared dazedly at his grandson. "Morty... Mo-morty, what, what time is it?" he croaked.

"Wake up, Rick! We're stuck in the middle of the forest!"

"A-a-a-alright, alright, just ho-ho-hold on." Rick groaned and staggered onto his feet, swaying slightly as he wiped some excess drool from his lower lip. "Oh, god. I need, I need some water." Rick rubbed his temples and tried to focus as he stared dazedly around at the magically whimsical and whimsically magical forest.

"Rick, you, you, said that you were gonna, you know, watch out for me!" Morty seemed more indignant than hurt, but at any rate the teenager started pushing his way through the forest at random. "You told me that! You, you, you-"

"Morty, I had my *urp* I had my intestines ripped out by some psychotic tech-techno- a seven-foot tall psy-ps-ps-psychotic techno-barbarian," rasped Rick as he staggered behind. "Cut a man some slack, alright?" he asked as he pushed aside a branch. "Just, just gemme some water. Be cool, Mor-morty."

"-just got drunk! You were drinking last night at your, lab and after we reappeared ,and ... uh..." Morty stared up at the- well, presumably they looked like trees, and the alternative was really too absurd even for someone who had travelled a good chunk of the multiverse, so it'd be easier if he just thought of them as weird trees- with a baffled expression. "Rick, uh, I think we're lost. I mean, this forest, it just, like..."

In spite of his hangover, Rick rolled his eyes. "Morty, we're, we're in a fairytale, Morty."

"Aw jeez..." Morty tugged at his itchy homespun tunic. "A, uh, a fairytale? I mean, uh..."

"ugh, jeez, my head, look, Morty, the, the, the, medieval clothes, the magical... whim-whimsical fairy tale... land... just go with it." Rick slumped against a tree and proceeded to do something that fairy tale characters never did.

Morty waited until Rick had finished retching before pushing onward through the woods. "Okay, okay, we're in, you know, some dumb fairy tale, Rick, what does that have to do with anything?"

"Things *urp* things always work out in fairy tales, Morty..." Rick watched what looked like a tiny pixie flit away through the woods before dragging his palm across his face. "Morty, just, just, just, just, be quiet for a while, okay? Grandpa had a rough night."

Morty suppressed a sigh and pushed on through the woods. "Rick, if we, you know, run into some stupid gingerbread house I'm not gonna save you from an evil witch or, or, or, a big bad wolf or nothing!"

"Morty, in, in, in, fairy tales bad *urp* bad things only happen to kids your age. I'm gonna be fine as long as we find some, ohgod some magical... witch... who, who, can mak-brew up some hair of the dog, or... something."

Morty- suddenly remembering all the fairy tales that his parents used to tell him back in his preschool days note - blanched and tried not to gulp at this all-too-familiar revelation.

"R-Right," said Kieri, rushing inside and sliding down against a far wall as the wolf man closed the door behind him "I'm s-sure we'll all f-feel better with a little s-sleep..." She finished by laying down on her side and curling up a little bit. While the rest of the civilians would head upstairs, Kieri remained on the ground floor. Someone had to stand guard after all. While she laid down, it took her a good while to go to sleep, convinced the moment she drifted off Brother Marcus would bust down the door and start killing everything. Eventually however, she drifted off to sleep...

She was somewhere dark. A void, almost. She was standing on solid ground within the void, her sword grasped tightly in her hands. Kieri looked around in a panic, not recognizing the place or where she was or knowing how she got here. All she knew was the person who brought here had to be nearby.

Eventually, she spotted him and her heart stopped. An all too familiar behemoth in dark blue armor stood perhaps twenty feet away, his back turned to her. He stood like a statue, breathing heavily, each time he breathed something bobbing at his side. Kieri glanced down and nearly got sick. There was Rick, or rather his corpse, barely recognizable after being maimed by Brother Marcus. He dangled from a string, like a puppet, almost like a war prize for the space marine. But that wasn't what made her sick. It was who was with the scientist.

Three more bodies hung from ropes held by Brother Marcus, three bodies she knew all too well. Jake she knew less than the others, his normally smiling face was replaced by a lifeless scream face, his red shirt not even coming close to hiding the blood as it seeped down his body and to the ground below. Next to him was Rhea, far shorter than Jake, and by extension even more maimed. Her large ears, already having several large bite and claw marks in it from before she met her, were dangling by threads of flesh now, and her long, thick tail was all but butchered, ready to be hung up in medallions in a meat market if it weren't still attached to her body.

Then came body number three. The one Kieri couldn't tear her eyes off of. Like Jake's red shirt, his red pants couldn't hope to absorb to all the blood that seeped from the large hole in his chest, the black cloak he usually wore being split open from the large blade. She could see every detail of the wound from here-how it poured out blood on to his purple furred chest, how the flesh dangled within the wound, a small amount of innards just inches away from falling out of his lifeless corpse. The only reason she didn't vomit then and there was an overwhelming sense of fear that kept her from moving.

'Jake...Rhea...Buwaro...' "N-No..." She whispered, eyes widening as she realized she had spoken that last word out loud. Brother Marcus merely glanced over his shoulder and turned around slowly, the front plates of his armor stained red with blood.

"They'll make fine trophies, the heathens and xenos..." He said, hanging them all up on invisible hooks to his side. Kieri looked over and gasped. There were hanging bodies littering the wall, some faces she couldn't place names too if she tried, others all too familiar faces like the Sinclairs, Morty, Lune...Kieri fell to her knees as she looked upon the wall. She couldn't even save one.

"There is room for you of course, false apparition," Brother Marcus said, drawing her attention "and perhaps when we are done here..." The Space Marine chuckled darkly, bringing both of his hands to his helmet. He pulled it off with the sound of air hissing out from the compression, revealing his face to the Angel. Her jaws dropped. Brother Marcus' face was like one of a wolf's, black and white furred with sharp teeth, pointed ears, and piercing red eyes. She recognized the face. The demon who burned St. Curtis to the ground.

"And perhaps when we're done here," he began again, in a different voice this time, one that belonged to that face-Iratu "maybe your brother will fall next!" He declared, his jetpack flaring up as he charged towards her. Kieri didn't move. Why bother. If she couldn't protect all these people, why did she deserve to protect herself? She welcome the downward swing of the demon's blade with open arms...

Kieri gasped loudly as she woke up, panting and shivering heavily. She sighed and knocked her head against the wall she rested against in annoyance. Nightmares were something that were far too common in the Angel's life, to a point where she should've gotten used to them by now. Yet here she was, feeling tears stinging her eyes and bile tickling her throat as she emerged from another one. Even something that wasn't real had a stronger hold on her than she did herself...

"D-Dammit!" She cried, slamming her fist against the wall. If she woke anyone up with this, she'd have to apologize, hopefully while dodging the reason why she was waking them up in the first place.

That is all there is to say, and I will say no more.

The forest, somewhere in the city

Rex had spent most of the midnight searching for the lab but he couldn't find. on the plus side, at least his Boogie Pack worked perfectly well despite looking like it was made by Leonardo da Vinci.

The sun had risen—sort of—and he returned to the library along with Ben and Twilight to see how things were going with the others.

The library

When Rex entered the building he noticed something strange. No, it wasn't the fact that the library was now a tower or that the other had also turned into different versions of themselves. It was that Miss Tairee wa snow wearing a ridiculuosly pink dress complete with a dunce cap-like hat. This made being a jester worth it.

"So, having a rough day at work, huh?"

Fourth Day, Rick's Medieval Lab.

Lune was napping in the bed next to Kieri's bed until the screaming woke her up. With concern for her best friend, Lune looked at Kieri. If Kieri looked real closely, there's a loose seam in Lune's neck. It was as if someone cut off her head for no reason and placed the head back on, hoping no one would notice.

"Hey, Kieri," said Lune. "Are you alright?"

Kieri whirled around at the sound of Lune's voice and gasped, still spooked by her dreams and not really expecting anyone but her to have gone to sleep on this floor. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down, licking her lips a little before she spoke.

"I...I'm f-fine, L-Lune," she said shakily "it w-was just a b-bad dream, n-nothing to w-worry about." The Angel hoped this would be enough to get Lune to drop the subject. She'd rather not relive this nightmare, or any of her nightmares for that matter, by explaining them.

Miss Tairee looked up at Rex and frowned slightly. "Do you have any idea how hard it is to write in ten dimensions, by hand? If I'm lucky, my command shortcuts will still work with this book; otherwise it might take me an hour to fix all of this" Miss Tairee said, opening up the tome to more of that same brain-hurting eldritch text that Rex and Ben had seen on her computer. Taking the quill in one hand, she started flipping through the pages, looking for something.

"Alright you bitch, I've been waiting for a whole day for the chance to talk to you!" the woman from the ice tunnel group said suddenly, having walked over to the desk with clearly hostile intent in her angry expression. "What the hell is up with your 'boss' bringing all of us here and doing shit like the freezing snow yesterday?!" she demanded of Miss Tairee.

Miss Tairee looked back at her fairly blankly. "He is looking for inspiration on his next work. Yesterday was not my idea, nor was any of th-"

"Let us speak with your boss! He can't just throw people in this little city like they're pawns!" the woman interrupted her.

"Can. And did. Shouldn't have, but did. And sorry, but he won't be speaking with anyone here yet. Is there anything else I can help-" The woman interrupted again, but this time by socking Miss Tairee in the nose, knocking her backwards on the chair and sending her hennin across the floor.

"We'll just see about that!" the woman declared as she vaulted over the desk to get at Miss Tairee. A couple other members of the ice tunnel group were coming over with some rope in hand.

As the chaos ensued beginning with Miss Tairee getting clocked in the face and the angry mob advancing on her, Ben wasn't sure whether to be on the side of the mob or Miss Tairee. One thing was for certain, he certainly couldn't allow Miss Tairee to be beaten up and bound by these guys. "Hey!" he shouted, then he readied the Omnitrix again, this time selecting a certain four-armed alien and pressing onto the crystal.

His body glowed green again and he immediately grew twelve feet tall, his head nearly scraping the ceiling as he did so. Finally, Four Arms was revealed from the light, but now his skin was green, had shaggy-looking hair on his head, and nasty-looking tusks coming from his mouth. Of course, Ben didn't notice any of this immediately, but he ran in front of the group approaching Miss Tairee. If necessary he would hold them back with his four arms.

"All right, you clowns, knock it off before I have to knock some heads together. She already said it wasn't her idea! I said that she's not the one we're against here! It's her boss! Now, get it through your thick skulls!" Four Arms exclaimed angrily at the crowd.

The first rule of the library is be quiet in the library... That doesn't seem right

The woman yelped as she was suddenly pulled away from Miss Tairee by Marr's force pull, and glared at Ben blocking the way to the desk; the other two from the group were startled by Ben and quickly took some steps back. "What the hell are you doing siding with her?!" the woman yelled. "This lady is working for our kidnapper! She's his envoy here so if we take her captive he'll have to come listen to what we have to say!" she pointed out, pointing accusing back towards Miss Tairee's general location behind the desk.

It was Asgore who would first see that Miss Tairee didn't look too bothered by this event, at most slightly annoyed; she didn't even seem to care that a few drops of blood were coming from her nose. After hearing the woman's comment, she actually chuckled, of all things. "Oh, goodness, you think you can take me hostage to force my boss to 'negotiate'? Well feel free to try, but I'm afraid you'll be quite disappointed; especially since he knows I can handle things myself well enough. Now, I don't care if you want to start a fight or tie me up, just please don't make any more of a mess in here" Miss Tairee said, and went to sit back down as if it hadn't even happened.

This only seemed to make the other woman even more angry. "What's that?! You think you can take us bitch! Come on, I'll whoop your ass into last week myself!" the woman challenged.

"Is that what's going to happen now? You're going to fight me?" Miss Tairee asked, raising an eyebrow.

Mob lynching in the library

The group that had entered the library with PK and SK were not happy when they discovered an accomplice of their kidnapping was there with them.

Ben (as some weird green monster similar to the red one he had used against Plantera) and Twilight stepped in to protect her from the mob. While Rex didn't exactly like helping her, but she could be pretty useful.

"Calm down everybody! Don't you see what she's trying to do? She knows she can deal with all of us"

Tairee obviously had a plan but Rex wasn't a slouch either. If there was something he had learnt by fighting Van Kleiss and the Pack was that evey subordinate had a goal in mind and their boss didn't always remember that. So, why did Miss Tairee work for him? Was it religious fanatism? Money? Payback? There was only one way to find out.

"Then answer me this princess, why do you work for him?"

"I am not siding with her. I know that angering a powerful being by kidnapping it's advisors rarely ends well."

Marr said, before deciding to deal with an annoyance..though he knows that hurting the woman might not bode well with relationship with others.

So mind manipulation will do.

Darth Marr waved his right hand at the agressive woman, while using the Force to attempt to manipulate the mind of the woman with a Mind Trick.

"You will no longer attack the secretary again and you will let her be.."

The first rule about the library is we don't talk about the library... That still seems wrong

"I will no longer attack... Wait what?" the woman from the ice tunneling group started to repeat after Darth Marr, but shook her head and blinked a few times, looking confused. "Alright, I'll just let you off with a warning this time bitch, but this isn't over!" she said accusingly towards Miss Tairee, then wandered off to one side of the lobby to start chatting with the rest of the ice tunnel group again.

"Ah, you're one of those types" Miss Tairee muttered to herself with a glance at Darth Marr, then was about to return to her work before Rex spoke to her. She regarded him with a rather blank stare for a moment, before finally answering, "it's personal."

"So now that you've dealt with the Templar, you're a real boy?"

Cole shifted his gaze from the rocks their group was walking over, heading out on a further quest behind the Inquisitor, who was currently in a heated conversation with Vivienne over some slight the mage felt she had suffered earlier. Things were settled enough with the Breech for them to be on their way to investigate...something. Cole hadn't quite been listening when he was told to get his blades and come along, distracted with trying to plot out a way to get into Cassandra's room and leave a locket he'd recovered for her, without her catching him sneaking into her room again and following through on a promise to use him as a training dummy. The locket, hopefully, would ease an ache about a brother he had picked up from her earlier this morning.

At this point, though, another member of the Inner Circle, Blackwall, was addressing him, making small talk as they traveled, as the others were wont to do.

"Realer," he decided was a good enough answer.

Blackwall chuckled, shaking his head slightly. "Good enough. I suppose you'll stop looking into people's heads soon? And you might want to look into...I don't know...eating?"

Cole grimaced at that. That was something Varric had been asking him about, that becoming more human might mean he would have to start treating his body like a human one, which would include food. The though of the act, of mashing things up into his mouth, swallowing them..."Blech."

"Oh, are we at that stage? Spitting everything up? At least you've mastered walking."

Sarcasm. Cole was starting to understand that, too.

Blackwall continued. "Soon you'll be eating properly. Then drinking. Then drinking for real. Then girls..."

Cole caught a flicker of something at that. Blackwall's hurts were never far from the surface, but, girl trouble, that was a new one. Flashes of gold satin wisping past in a whirl, clipboard clutched in a hand, a smile and a nod as she hurried past, too busy to notice, always too busy, not like I could offer her anything anyway...

Cole thought he might be able to make that work, to try and talk Blackwall through his complicated emotions towards Josephine, back at Skyhold. "You know a lot about girls."

Blackwall shot him a glare. "You're supposed to stop-,"

The world around them suddenly seemed to spasm, in a way Cole couldn't quite put a finger on. Another Fade rift? Was the Inquisitor doing something? Upon attempting to look towards their leader, however, Cole was alarmed to discover he couldn't. He'd been caught in a few paralyzing glyphs over the course of battle, and never enjoyed the sensation. However, unless something had managed to catch Blackwall as well, this wasn't right.

Even as he was taking a moment to realize that the world around him seemed to have locked up tight, the darkness swam up around him, and for just a moment, memories Cole had hoped were long gone swam with it.

Pulling, yanking, drowning me down-no! Not back into the Fade! Not now! Not like this!

And then there was a snap, of sound and light and crushing, and he tried to cry out...

...and the next thing Cole knew, he was on his hands and knees in some sort of grassy meadow, near a forest, blinking at the abrupt shift from the rocky hills he had been crossing before.

"Blackwall?" He sat back, looking down, staring in some confusion at the fact that his usual clothing seemed to have gone darker, blacks and grays rather than creams and browns, and he now wore a tattered, hooded cloak, strange decorations about the hood almost giving the impression that a creature's mouth was surrounding him. He could still feel his blades in their holsters on his back, so he wasn't without protection, for the moment, but where were the others?

"Inquisitor? Blackwall? Vivienne!" Cole got to his feet, looking around, staring at the strange void that the world seemed to fall into. Was this the Fade? It didn't look like the Fade, didn't sing to him as the Fade would. The Black City wasn't in the sky, and there didn't seem to be any demons about.

There were people nearby, though, he could sense them. Masses of them, confused, frightened. Too many for him to catch any more than the most fleeting of emotions, not without focusing to try and catch any. He reached up, holding his temples and closing his eyes, trying to ground himself.

Perhaps his friends were somewhere nearby then. He had to find them first. Then he could focus on helping the people. That was something he understood now that he hadn't before. Priorities.

Cole started for the forest, trying to keep his attention open for any of the others or any threats that he might have to dispatch on the way.
