Lewis - Woods - Totally Not a Fire Hazard

The idea of turning down a fight being a disservice to a food crop, albeit a staple crop, didn't sound very 'normal 2015' at all. But whatever. I wasn't in the mood to debate what exactly qualified as normal where she was from. I eyed her; she was clearly ready to fight, and focused entirely on me, but from the looks of it she wanted me to have the first move. What for? From her stance, it looked like she might charge, but that didn't seem to line up...

Garrett tried to meddle, citing the day enemies as reason not to go at it. Not pulling my eyes or general attention from Kelsey, I answered "Please. We all could take those if it came to it. Hell, maybe it'll give Morty something to ok Curly you do that."

I launched some 7-odd streaks of flame or so at her, conserving a few to shoot later, and prepared to sidestep...sidefloat...you get the idea, out of the way if she tried to charge, possibly sending her crashing into the wall of lamps still a couple paces behind me.

Arcade shrugged and returned his stimpak to his pocket. "Or that, that works too," he said. Part of Arcade wanted to ask what was in the medicine Louie was offering to use that made it possible to just spray it over an injury. After the day he'd had his scientific curiosity was beaten by his knowledge that whatever it was was almost certainly not of his world.

Ferris wheel

Louie nodded and proceeded with his potion, a few quick sprays seemingly emptying the whole bottle while also enveloping the baby hornet in a sort of aura of glowing mist. From where Viola was holding onto it and thus got a little on her hands, it felt to her sort of like the sensation of sparkling water in one's mouth, only on her skin; a sort of popping, bubbling sensation that nevertheless felt oddly refreshing.

The slice on the wing sealed up, and though a little wobbly at first when Viola let go, the baby hornet leveled itself out and began to fly on its own again. Once it could, it moved over towards Plague Knight and floated itself above the honey flower.

Thomas, oddly, seemed more interested in looking around at their surroundings than the display with the baby hornet. Louie seemed to take notice and raised an eyebrow. "You uh, hearing something there Thomas?" Louie asked him.

"Yes. Nothing" Thomas said, still looking around, then glancing at Ben. "The screaming's stopped" he noted to the young hero.

"... Hey, you're right" Louie muttered, also looking around. "In fact... I think it stopped a while ago, now that I think about it" he added, rubbing his chin in thought.

"Since people come back to life here, it's not like we could have run out of people that could be screaming. So I would guess that means there must be nothing more to scream about" Thomas thought out loud.

Louie blinked as he thought about this, then yawned. "Well uh... Think we could maybe just call it in for the night in that case?" Louie said to Ben.

Whether they spent the rest of the night looking around just in case, or tried to find somewhere to sleep, either way the hours would eventually slip by and everything would stop and blur as the next day came...

Balloon cart to crummy motel

The motel was far from in great condition, as was pretty much expected from the day. On just about every portion of wall, the cheap looking wallpaper was torn, faded, stained, or some combination of all three. One room had a large hole in the roof, and a couple other rooms had most of the flimsy dividing wall between them broken away; which while it did create a sort of large, double sized room, was somewhat hazardous in the middle due to the broken bits of wall.

Still, there were beds, and while they weren't great either, they were still beds. Everyone would eventually be able to get a few hours of rest, if not outright sleep, until finally the world all blurred...

Patch of woods, more sudden transition
Thus presumably this scene was a few hours ahead of the others, but don't ask questions.

The streaks of fire washed over Kelsey's armor as she didn't even bother to dodge or block, quickly engulfing her figure in flames. Her shape could still be vaguely made out in the inferno, but nothing was heard from her until the mechanical roar of her chainsaws starting pierced through the air.

"I'LL MAKE YOUR SKULL INTO A STOVE BURNER!" Kelsey roared, charging out of the flames with plenty still clinging to her armor, really bringing together the 'demon straight from the depths of hell' look that her armor had started. She took a leap through the air towards Lewis, her lungs and chainaxes both screaming with near equal intensity as she prepared to bring them both forward in wide arcs.

And then everything just stopped all of a sudden, the whole world melting away into a blur...

Somewhere...

Miss Tairee appeared, casually tossing away some version of the legendary Excalibur, along with a laser minigun that even had rotary barrels. As she flicked her wrist to bring up the holographic keyboard and start typing commands to erase these two, now unnecessary items, she could hear the tell tale sound of writing begin.

"Did you have fun during your vacation, Miss Tairee?"

"I suppose parts of it were fun, and it was generally agreeable, yes" Miss Tairee answered with a halfhearted shrug. "I also had plenty of quiet moments to think," she added, pausing after she was done with the holographic interface, "... Boss, about the thirteenth day..." She trailed off as the sound of a pen writing on paper already started before she'd gotten through that much.

"You realized that I was going to make you sit out of the day no matter what?"

"... I suspected it" Miss Tairee answered with a nod. "It occurred to me that my presence wouldn't have really fit well with the theme... So the truth is, you never actually gave me a choice, did you?" she pointed out. This time there was a silent pause for a bit before the scratching of a pen writing something down came back.

"I suppose that's one way of looking at it. But I would argue that an equally, if not more valid way of looking at it, is that I gave you something in return for something you were going to have to do anyway."

Miss Tairee thought about it for a couple moments. "I suppose that's true too" Miss Tairee admitted with a simple nod. "Can I see a review of what happened during the day before we move on?" she then asked. She could then hear the sound of writing again.

"Yes of course. We will continue once you are ready. The next day is already prepared."

A piece of paper floated over to Miss Tairee, this one a bit longer than the previous ones, and Miss Tairee raised an eyebrow as she looked over it. "This looks more like the work of your friend than yours" Miss Tairee commented. Once again there was the sound of a pen scratching a message onto paper.

"He helped me on it. After all, what did you think he was up to while you were playing with his assistant?"

Miss Tairee had that thoughtful look of someone who just realized that something was obvious in hindsight. "So you also had me take that vacation just to keep his assistant busy while he helped you?" Miss Tairee said questioningly. The writing sound came back again.

"Well not just that, as we discussed a minute ago. There was a golden opportunity for a vacation on your part to serve multiple functions, so of course I took it. And I must add, we have quite the coincidental pattern going on; perhaps I will find some reason for you to sit out of the twenty third day as well."

Miss Tairee rolled her eyes before using her holographic screen again to conjure up a chair, desk, and computer monitor. After some time, probably several hours at least by her reckon, she'd finished reviewing the events of the day she'd missed, summarizing her opinion of it with a judgemental, "mmm." She then stood up from the chair. "Alright, I suppose I'm ready" she stated. Once more, a pen writing on paper sounded out.

"Very good. Then let us begin."

Day fourteen, Totally radical!

The city seemed back to its usual self as the sunless dawn broke. The sky was fairly clear; the air was still a bit crisp since it was still dawn, but it was not terribly uncomfortable. There was something almost invigorating about it, like it was an excellent time to go out and take an early morning jog.

The city was of course not entirely back to its normal self though. A lot of the changes were more subtle to those without an eye for detail, but the biggest change was the introduction of slopes and inclines to some streets, where before they were pretty much all flat. The skyline seemed like it had gentle hills throughout the city, but of course with the city shifting, it never looked like the same hills twice. The next of course was probably the race track that looped around the edge of the whole city in one giant circle.

After those, the next thing to probably stick out was the kiosks, and the large screens and billboards scattered throughout the city. The library was also back in place, and for once nobody was waking up in it, since it only just now was there again. One might also notice that among the new buildings was a hospital.

Day 13-Ferris Wheel

"I hope everyone else has made it out unscathed," Arcade said, "the less people suffering the better. If you need to rest I can take watch, just in case. I managed to get almost two hours of sleep last night, so I'll be fine for another week or so."

Day 14-Nightfall Overwork

Once the next day rolled around, Arcade noticed that everything was different than what he was used to. It was not simply that the City was changed, everything was intact and Pre-War, nothing like what he had ever seen outside of Vegas, which didn't count to him as it was completely corrupt. He moved over to a wall and placed a hand on it, feeling something truly clean for the first time in his life. He simply stared at the wall until someone interrupted his meditations.

Day 13

Plague Knight's eyes nearly bulged right out of his mask as he saw the wasp's wing completely heal to full functionality. The knight had never seen such an effective healing potion EVER. He immediately ran up to Louie. "Do you have more?! I simply must find out how such a miraculous concoction works! Pleaspleasepleaseplease PLEASE!!!" The alchemist would be jumped up and grabbed the Pokemon trainer by the shoulders and shaking him uncontrollably if his were hand were not full at the moment.

Day 13 ~ Night of the Thirteenth Day - Nothing Fearful Remains

Ever since escaping from Ghostfreak, Zelda had been making good on her earlier plan. Despite her best efforts she was unable to find Caro again, or indeed anyone else she knew. For lack of a better option, she just went from hiding place to hiding place, moving whenever she heard something potentially threatening that was too close for comfort.

All the lights coming back on and with them all the things she asked for on earlier days returning to her came as a surprise. She had been expecting to go the whole day with just her harp and the clothes on her back. However, as opposed to get involved in whatever madness it entailed, she instead decided to find a safer place to ride out the rest of the night. She eventually did, or at least the closest thing she could find to a safe place in these kinds of conditions. Once she did, she settled down and prepared to doze off. She'd make her way back to the library the following day after she awoke.

As she drifted off to sleep, she noted that the screams had gone.

Uminari City ~ A Fated Departure

Fate sat upon the couch in her high-rise apartment. Arf, her familiar, lie next to the foot of it. As far as Fate could tell, she was already asleep.

It had been a long day, although as far as she was concerned it had been a successful one. They’d tracked down and sealed a jewel seed; the first of hopefully many. Furthermore, she already had an idea of where to find more.

The bad news was that she had competition, in the form of a local mage. A girl in white, around her own age. She hadn’t expected to run into another mage on this world. Then again, with the presence of lost logia, maybe she should have.

What could this girl possibly want with the jewel seeds? The same reason as Mother’s, perhaps?

One way or another, Fate had a feeling that wouldn’t be the last time she met the girl, and ultimately her presence ultimately didn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. Competition or not, she needed to hunt down the jewel seeds and bring them back to Mother.

She glanced towards the shelf, where a picture of herself and Mother stood. With the Jewel Seeds, maybe Mother would be happy once again. And in turn, she and Arf could be happy with her.

However, that was for a later time. For now, she needed to rest. If she pulled an all-nighter, she wouldn’t be ready for the next day’s challenges.

She turned towards Arf, and made a small smile as she patted her familiar on the head.

“Good night, Arf,” she whispered. Then she lie down on the couch and closed her eyes. Soon enough, she had dozed off to sleep.

Day 14 - Balconies ~ Dawn of the Fourteenth Day - Settling in Remains

"Fate! Wake up! Fate!"

Even without her familiar literally barking at her, Fate was aware that something was off. They had an apartment, didn't they? So why was she now laying on what felt like a concrete sidewalk? Furthermore, it very much felt like she was outside, as a matter of fact.

She opened her green eyes and got to her feet before looking around, outwardly not showing much expression other than a mild confusion. To anyone looking at her she appeared to be a nine-year old girl with long, blonde hair tied into two ponytails by black ribbons, and dressed in a black dress and black knee-high boots.

They were certainly in a city. However, it was not the city they were supposed to be at. At the very least, she didn't remember that city having this many inclines, or having a racetrack running around it. She turned to look out behind her, only to be greeted with an endless blue void. She didn't see anything that looked like a sun in the sky. There were clouds...made out of books?

"Arf," she asked, "Where are we?"

Her companion was what appeared to be a wolf. She was oddly colored by the standards of wolves, however; her fur bore a reddish color, and she also had what could best be described as a mane.

"I don't know!" Arf replied, "When I awoke this morning, the world froze and went black. And then when it returned, we were here." She turned to her master. "It wasn't like any spell I recognized. I don't think it was a spell at all!"

Fate frowned. "...Would it be possible to return home? Mother's going to be disappointed, but...what choice do we have?"

"I'm sure she'll understand!" Arf replied, "This whole thing was outside of our control. Now let me ready a Dimensional Transfer...."

The next couple moments consisted of what looked like Arf attempting to ready a spell of some kind while Fate recited a series of what were probably coordinates. However, it was very clear that nothing was happening, even to the two trying to use the spell.

"It's not working!" Arf exclaimed, "I thought I was doing everything correctly, but it hasn't even begun to execute!" She looked down to the ground. "Fate...I believe we're trapped."

Fate frowned. "...Are our other spells functional...?"

"It feels like it," Arf replied. She prepared another spell. In response, a complicated white rune appeared beneath her feet. She called off whatever spell it was soon afterwards. "It's just Dimensional Transfer that's not working."

Fate looked out into the city again. "In that case, our answers are probably waiting somewhere out there." She pointed out into the city. "Let's go try and find them."

"I'm with you all the way, my master."

At that, Fate pulled out a small, triangular yellow device. "Bardiche, set up."

"Yes, sir," Bardiche replied. Fate was then cloaked in a yellow light for a few moments. When it subsided, she'd gone from her casual outfit to her Barrier Jacket. Her new outfit consisted of a black tank top, a short white skirt, black thigh-high stockings, and black, ankle-high boots. The look was completed with a black-and-red cape draped around her shoulders. Bardiche had also gone from his small Standby Form to his more impressive Device Form. He now resembled a long, highly technological poleaxe, with the blade on a hinge marked with a yellow orb.

All preparations complete, the two started making their way into the unknown city, keeping their eyes out for anything that might happen to be interesting.

Woods

Garrett was trying to think of how to calm Morty down, when Curly went straight to the point and just knocked the boy out cold. "Good job," he said. "Thought it might have been risky... what if he dropped this saw machine on his leg?"

Meanwhile, Lewis and Kelsey were definitely preparing for a fight. "Oh, you've got to be kidding..." he muttered. "You'd think by now they'd have enough excitement for today. Ah, whatever. They may kill each other for all I care." And with that, he turned to leave, when suddenly the world went blurry...

Some rooftop

...When Garrett regained consciousness, he found himself sitting on the rooftop of a tall building, leaning against what looked like a metal ramp of unknown purpose.

After rubbing his forehead, the first thing he did was carefully looking himself over. No changes. He wasn't a boy or a rat or a cartoon today, which was a relief.

He approached the edge and took a suspicious look around the streets. It was back to normal, as expected, and the library was back. He couldn't tell what the theme of the day was, if any; so far all he noticed were the tiny booths at street-corners, and the hills visible far on the horizon.

After a moment, something else struck him. The streets were entirely flat and straight before, as far as he could remember, but now several of them sloped visibly. What did this all add up to?

Generator Rex universe — ...indeed we weren't

Rex dusted himself off after successfully dealing with yet another EVO threat... by knocking it out against a building. Surely people will appreciate that.

"And that's all she wrote"

A piece of paper had fallen from his jacket. Something that Bobo quickly pointed out.

"You dropped something, chief"

Rex picked it up and read. He had not noticed it until now but it was a note saying that helping the former Ruckus wasn't a priority for Tairee's boss and that it wasn't going to happen if Rex didn't offer anything in return which was a moot point since he was back home, anyway. Aside from that, the postscript promised him that he would meet someone from the city again. Given the writer's sense of humor, everything pointed to a little blonde girl. Plus it called him "Mister Salazar". Yeah, right. Like he was going to believe any of that.

"Eh, it's just a bad joke. Come on, let's go back to HQ"

Rex prepared to leave with his bike when he noticed that he couldn't move like he was frozen in place "Wh-" It was a feeling he had already experienced once. The sudden darkness around him made it clear: It was happening again.

Day 14, Balconies — "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in"

"Ah, come on! Again? Really?"

He was back in the city. Myabe if he was lucky...

"Rex to HQ. Do you copy?" he called on his communicator, but there was no answer "Look at that. No signal. What a shock"

This sure was something else. It didn't look that bad to be honest. Oddly enough, it had a race track and everything. Not far from there, there was a girl talking with her dog(!) about being trapped and given their shock it was obvious that they had just arrived to the city. He hadn't even been five minutes in the city and someone had already transformed before his eyes.

"I take it you guys are new here?"

Somewhere...

Morty's eyes fluttered open and he instantly regretted it. Headaches he'd had, but he'd never had anything quite as bad as this. It felt as though someone had kicked him in the back of the head - and judging by the pounding in his skull, there was a decent chance that someone or something was still kicking him in the skull.

"Uuuugh..." Morty rolled over in his familiar grey sheets, closed his eyes - maybe it would all be over if he could just sleep in for a few hours more...

... wait. Grey sheets? Morty sat up in his bed - his bed? - and looked around, scarcely daring to believe what he was seeing. His battered old elephant lamp, his bookshelf, his... posters of bikini models peeling from the grey-painted walls, those were always important to keep around. Was it over? Had their thirteen days of imprisonment finally come to an end?

"Morty!" came Mom's voice from downstairs. "Morty, get up! You're going to be late for school!" School... school... what was - Oh god, school! He'd been gone for two weeks now! Oh god oh god, he was going to be in so much trouble now. In one fast motion, Morty threw himself down the stairs and skidded into the Smith kitchen, where Mom was industriously flipping a batch of pancakes. Dad was nonchalantly tapping on his phone, Summer was rolling her eyes and texting to her friends, and Rick was... where was Rick? He never missed breakfast. Actually, okay, that was a lie, he usually missed breakfast, but the point still stood: where was he?

Oh no. He - he wasn't still back in the city, was he? Rick was a dick, but not even he deserved to be imprisoned in a faraway like that without any of his old friends or family for an indefinite amount of time. How long did Miss Tairee say she was running her boss's little experiment? It... oh no, he could be stuck in purgatory for a year and a half, or even longer!

"Hey, uh, Mom." he ventured. "H-have you seen Rick?" No answer.

"...Mom...?"

Mom slowly turned around, revealing her face, and Morty, in accordance with the laws of these kinds of situations, started industriously screaming his lungs out. What he had thought was his mom was actually Jason... who had somehow followed him home and disguised himself as his mom! "Oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god-" screamed Morty as Jason Voorhes, looking no less threatening in spite of his feminine blue jeans and casual turtleneck. Jason advanced one step, then two, and Morty's feet were planted to the floor, why couldn't he get away, and the machete came -

-down-

And Morty awoke, gasping heavily as he kicked his way free from the sheets. He looked around. He was in... some kind of apartment, he could tell that much. Faint orange light streamed in from a window next to the bed. He gasped, his system trying to keep up with the adrenaline shock of a bad nightmare. Where was he? Faint memories swirled in his head, made worse by the persistent, throbbing headache that continued to lollop through his skull. Apartment. Right. ..city? Cities entered into this somehow? Oh, right, City. That city. Just a nightmare. Then again, compared to waking life over the past thirteen days, where things had gotten progressively more disjointed and scary with every passing hour, his nightmare wasn't really much worse than reality.

"Something wrong, sweetie?"

"W-what?" Morty sighed as he fluffed his pillow and turned back on his side, trying to settle back into his sleep. "Nothing. Just a - just a night...mare..." Morty's eyes popped open as a slender, delicate hand patted him reassuringly on the head.

"Oh, good. I was worried about you for a moment there, you know?" whispered the voice. Another hand gently rubbed his back. Then he felt a third hand stroking his hair.

Slowly dreading the consequences, Morty turned around to see a familiar girl - for given value of the word "girl" anyway, considering that most girls he met didn't have four arms or a long, spiny tail hanging over the bed - lying coquettishly beside him.

"HooOOOoooOOOOoooOOO-"

Morty thrashed out of the sheets again and landed flat on his ass on the familiar sun-and-moon carpet pattern that adorned the carpet of... his... room? What level of reality was he on now? Was this a dream or not, and if it was, why couldn't he at least go on fun and exciting dream adventures like Leonardo diCaprio instead of being stuck in his own weird and scary dreams where Rick wasn't even around to help him?

Cautiously, Morty dressed himself and crept downstairs. The family was the same as he'd left it two dream-layers back - if this was a dream, after all. Dad was still playing his stupid phone game, Summer was still texting vapidly, Mom was... well... was she Mom this time around? Whoever it was, they were rummaging around on the kitchen counter for something.

"...Hello?" he ventured cautiously. His family turned and stared at him as though he had lobsters crawling out of his ears.

"Um. Hi, Morty," offered Dad as a vague consolation before turning back to his game. "You had better get to school, I mean - if Rick doesn't need you for anything." There was a definite barb in Jerry's words there.

"...Have you seen him?" asked Morty. Something was still wrong here, something was very off.

"Morty, honey," said Beth as she prepared something, "you've been gone for a few days now with him. Haven't you?"

"Well, I mean, I dunno, Mom - I - I gotta talk straight with you here, t-there was like, this, this, weird multiversal city and, like, there were a bunch of weird-ass things and, like, me and Rick got kidnapped into and it kept changing..." Morty stammered over himself "...and, like, I got turned into a dog one day... b-but now I'm back or at least I think I am and I don't know where Rick is!"

"There, there, sweetie. Your grandpa always turns up." Mom turned around and gave her son a conciliatory hug around the shoulders. "Rick's smart. He'll find a way home."

"Y-you really think so?"

"Of course." A mixture of emotions ran over Mom's face - a wan smile, a sad smile- at the thought. "Why don't you sit down and have some breakfast, alright? Gotta get some energy before you head off to school."

"Y-yeah, okay, sure. Pancakes?" Morty cracked a nervous smile.

"Oh, Morty, you just missed the last pancake. Jerry looked up and smiled a guilty smile. "How about..." Morty stared down at the plate that had materialized in his hand, and the huge yellow thing upon it that was growing bigger and more rotten with every second...

"...a banana?""

"HooOOOooooOOOOOAAAAAA-" Mushy peels grabbed Morty in their slimy grip as cold, rotten banana glop flooded into his face, his eyes, his ears, he couldn't see, he couldn't breathe, he couldn't...

"Ones and twos, ones and twos... they'll make good in the nude, eh-heh-heh..."

"-aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAGH!" Morty thrashed himself awake from the back alley where he had been unceremoniously deposited and kicked the nearest thing that he could see, which happened to be a rotten bag of garbage. Foul-smelling liquid oozed from its sagging form and the teenager's nostrils unconsciously clenched. What had happened last night? he wondered to himself while also pondering if this was how Rick felt every morning. Last thing he remembered there had been a man? A big... melty sort of man. And a chainsaw. And the color pink, for some reason. Everything hurt - his muscles felt like they'd been running a marathon for the past six weeks, and the headache that had chased him through his dreams wasn't helping matters any.

If it wasn't for the headache, he'd probably have noticed the weak but persistent tugging on his left leg. He looked down and saw something the size of a Boston terrier - a spherical sort of creature covered in dense, wiry fur, sporting twelve spindly arms branching off from one another like a tree, a single bloodshot eye, and a little flat cap - busily working to untie his sneaker.

"Get off!" Morty shook the thing off his leg, sending it flying up into another garbage bag where it landed harmlessly. "Oi, guv'nor," it implored, "spare a one and two for a poor bloke, wouldj'a? I don't want no barney rubble, just down on me luck."

"No." Morty was already up and out of the alley, blinking at the restored city. The carnival rides had vanished, the scary clowns and weird hamburger joints were things of the past, the woods... why was that sticking with him? And why was he thinking of the color pink?

"Aw, c'mon, guv! Oi've got some bees n' honey in me lucy locket somewhere, just onna yer ones n' twos-"

"I said no! G-go bother somebody else, okay?"

The garbage bag, for what it's worth, had already picked itself up on a pair of tiny legs and waddled off deeper into the garbage choked alley. A furry green thing poked its head up out of a nearby garbage can, extended one arm, and grabbed the little walking garbage bag by its ears, disappearing back into the can, garbage monster and all, like one of those burrowing spiders you see on TV sometimes.

Morty set off down a random path, gazing up at the skyline, the abundance of parks and half-pipes and grind rails. Maybe Rick was somewhere around here.

Five seconds later, he got mowed down by a pair of skateboarders.

Library

Rick slouched into the library, absentmindedly sucking back the last of a gently steaming batch of what could charitably be called "hair of the dog" - if the dog was maybe some kind of werewolf - from a test tube. "Look, I *urp* I don't want any trouble," he announced absentmindedly, "any of you seen *urp* Morty? You, library lady?"

Day 14 - Restaurant - back to semi-normal

Sans eventually woke up, finding himself in the restaurant, except it now looked normal, not nearly as messy and rundown. He wondered what was gonna happen now after all that mess that was the previous day, so he went outside to see just what was going on, as well as just go outside a little.

He stood in front of the restaurant, looking at the seemingly normal street. Nothing really stood as out of place outside of the fact that the city seemed to be a little more vertical than usual. That was probably related to the theme, but he couldn't tell what was it just yet. For now he was just standing there collecting his thoughts after the talk from yesterday.

Lewis - Woods ==> Hospital ==> Who Even Knows - Excitement! Action! And a Grand Prize?

Day 13

Well that didn't work. All it did was inspire a ridiculous quip about wanting my head for a stove.

Which might be a bit hard considering how my body worked. "Yeah, good luck with that," I retorted as I ducked to the side, out of the way of Kelsey's path. If fire wouldn't work, then I guess I'd just have to go melee—

Day 14

or not.

Fine. Be like that, city. Don't let me rip the sadistic madwoman's throat out. See if I care. Whatever.

Well, at least that nightmarish day was over. In fact, unlike yesterday's eternal night today was refreshingly bright and sunny. I got up, having somehow found myself laying down, to start looking at what was around me and get a general idea of what was the deal with today before all the death started.

There was a hospital. Huh. Hadn't seen that around before. Was that what we'd won from yesterday's challenge? I supposed that should have inspired a reaction out of me but for some reason I didn't really feel one way or the other. Maybe it was that I couldn't fathom it ever being of much help to me personally barring a repeat of the first 2/3 of yesterday, or the fact that we didn't technically need one of these, but it seemed an underwhelming reward for the ridiculous hell that was yesterday's challenge. Though I supposed it could be of use if you were seriously injured but couldn't afford to lose something special you were carrying by popping a cap in it, like had been a concern of mine a few times yesterday. Or, of course, if you just didn't enjoy dying at all.

Speaking of losing things you were carrying, didn't I get a shield generator the other day that I dropped when...when...

I shook my head, trying to flush out the memory, and went back to looking around. Was the city more...hilly than usual? Why the sudden increase in inclines?

Turning around slowly, my eyes met with a cute little booth, visible in which were some 3D glasses and brochures. Seeing as brochures had helped me once in the past here and there was no shortage of them at the stand, I went up and took one, sitting on the counter of the stand to open it up and read it.

...Physical competition. So it was a sports day. Explained all the monitors. But the no killing rule was going to put a dent in my "find Kelsey and finish what we started" plans.

Still, it might be fun, I couldn't help but think. And it was a contest; I didn't have my hopes up, but maybe there'd be a worthwhile reward for winning. I decided to keep reading.

My decision when I finished came instantly.

I could...I could see Vivi. No elaborate ploys or chases, I could just make the writer send me right to her. I could go home, and...and...!

I jumped to my feet and snatched one of the glasses, then rushed down a random street faster than I'd ever run or glided before, putting the things onnote  and watching for anyone who might be near, all while cheering at the top of my voice.

YEAH-HAH!!

Motel - Day 14

Jack sat and watched as the strange dawn rose over the city. Just a short time before, the city had done its usual weird shift, leaving the place that were staying in, in significantly better condition. They were also higher up, which was an odd change, but not one he was bothered by.

The Guardian had spent the night on edge, watching and waiting in case another one of those monsters showed back up.It had been completely quiet, thankfully. He glanced over at the bed in the room, where both See and Tommy had laid down to rest. He'd spent the night thinking about what to do with them. He knew what he was going to do this day, but he couldn't just leave them to themselves again. They'd spent most of the time in the city that way, and they deserved better. But, he couldn't take them with him either. Getting around with them would be difficult, and he'd be forced to walk.

No, the best option, Jack had decided, was to take them to the library. There they would be safe, somewhere the spirit knew he could find them, and also be able to get food and whatever they might need from Tairee. Turning back to the window, the spirit decided to pass the time until the two woke by drawing images of his friends and some of the people he'd met in the city, in ice on the window.

Day 13

Ben nodded, looking up and yawning a bit. "Well it's getting late. I'm gonna try and find a place to sleep. We should stick together. Then we can get you to the library and get you a walkie talkie, Louie," he explained. With that, Ben walked up to the Ferris wheel, finding a car that wasn't melted and clambering into it, curling up in the car and falling asleep, shivering slightly.

Day 14

Ben sat up, blinking and looking around. He was sitting against one of the inner walls of a gazebo in a city park. He stood, looking around further. It seemed the City was back to normal! Ben grinned and pumped his fist, then looked for Thomas and Louie. He hoped they didn't get warped away from each other.

Grinch - Location at Which One is Capable of Creating Stuffed Animals, Including, But Not Limited to, Bears

The Grinch went for a wild flight between days and landed with a hop,
in front of a location that was legally distinct from Build-A-Bear Workshop.
He went to the kiosk that held a strange-looking book,
taking it out he gave it a glance and took a quick look.
However he put the current day challenge on hold,
as the store before him held all manner of wonders untold.

He stepped inside and glanced all around at the features,
inside were teddy bears and all sorts of stuffed creatures!
It would be no good for him to simply leave now,
so he started working on a custom stuffed cow.
He gave it a ribbon, a hat, and a bow - or two.
Then he held it up to his face and gave it a moo.

Day 13 wrapping up, ferris wheel

"Uh... Well, okay, since we could get them back I guess" Louie agreed, grabbing one more spray bottle potion and handing it to Plague Knight. "It's the only other one I've got" he added.

As Ben spoke up about finding somewhere to sleep and sticking together, Louie and Thomas nodded in agreement and followed him to the ferris wheel. Thomas glanced at Ben getting into the bottom carriage, glanced back at Eve, then elbowed Louie and whispered something to him. After that, they both climbed up to a slightly higher carriage and fell asleep on the opposite benches in that one.

Library

Miss Tairee was sitting at her central desks in her normal outfit when Rick walked in; she had just barely conjured herself a hot cup of coffee but paused as she was about to pick it up, looking over at Rick with a raised eyebrow.

"Sorry sir, I have not seen your grandson today" Miss Tairee said in a gentle tone. "Is there anything I can help you with?" she then asked him.

Day 14, park

There was no sign of the two boys immediately nearby at the gazebo, but as Ben looked around he could see another gazebo off a bit across the park. He could see Louie already up and doing stretches, but no immediate sign of Thomas.

Disgusting Motel

Lucas, tired from all the day's events, rushed into the motel fairly quickly. He might have tried talking to people for a bit longer, but he wanted to ensure that he'd be recharged by the start of the next day. He settled into one of the slightly cleaner rooms, and fell asleep on the ratty bed. All he could see in his dreams were images of a laughing girl. He wasn't in for a peaceful rest, but it would do.

A New Day in a Clean Motel

As he awoke, Lucas noticed a few things immediately. The most striking thing was the cleanliness of the building. His bed actually looked like something he would choose to sleep in over other options, rather than a last resort. In general, the building looked like it was fit for human use. Very pleasant. The other thing he noticed was a generally relaxed feeling in the air, sort of the polar opposite of the oppressive atmosphere yesterday.

Deciding to take a quick look outside to figure out what today's gimmick was, Lucas exited the building and observed the environment. The best way for him to describe it was inclined. Ramps and stairs and other such things. Lucas didn't really understand the purpose of some of these things (No skating in Tazmily), but it all looked fascinating. Noticing a kiosk by the entrance to the motel, Lucas investigated while making sure he didn't lose sight of the building.

A large quantity of two items were inside it. First, Lucas picked up the odd glasses. He hadn't ever seen anything that looked like these before. Deciding to wait a minute before putting them on, Lucas took a book and retreated back inside to read it...

So the challenge today was a contest? A wish as the prize... the possibilities were dazzling! If he got that he might be able to bring back his family! Or maybe fix his world's issues at a more root cause like Porky! While he knew winning was unlikely with all the strong people he had seen by now, there was no harm in trying. Well... ruining another's shot at the prize wasn't a pleasant thought. Oh well, only one person could win it anyways, so many people would be shot down by the end of it. It could be a fun thing to do at least. Lucas put on the glasses. He could see he had one point, as promised by the book.

It didn't feel right to leave the motel behind right away, so Lucas sat by the exit for now. He was waiting for the kids to awaken, at least. Couldn't just leave them alone with Seiga, after all. Hopefully Jack would also get up and they might be able to leave quickly.

Eve|Streets|0 Points

Eve couldn't sleep. At all. Instead she wandered around, watching the others settle and sleep. She had gone without sleep before, so it didn't matter much to her. Eventually, the day transition hit, and the City changed, as was its nature. And she was moved away from everybody else. It was both hard and easy to keep her eyes open. This day seemed more pleasant, at least, not that that meant much.

A bunch of kiosks had popped up during the transition, and, out of idle curiosity, Eve picked up one of the brochures. And read it. So that was the day challenge. A sports day. How completely unoriginal. Maybe the Writer had run out of ideas. Of course, her curiosity had gotten her involved. What would she do with a wish from the Writer? She didn't know. In all honesty, the commemorative t-shirt sounded more interesting.

Still, despite not a huge amount of interest in the day challenge, Eve picked up a pair of glasses, put them on, and walked off.

Day 14, with Day 13 to be concluded soon

Cole found himself waking up at the sound of movement in the building, and slowly raised his head from the spot he'd curled up in under a table, for the sake of safety. It took him a minute to get it through his head that he was still in the city, and not back home in the tavern, but at least it was morning, and seeing that Sans had gone to look outside, he figured the monsters must be gone.

That was certainly a relief. Not having to be concerned about those awful monsters wandering around, hurting people.

Oh, he still had on the amulet as well. That was why things were quiet. That was good.

Still a little groggy, he managed to scoot himself out from under the table, wandering over to the door behind Sans, rubbing at his eyes a little at the bright light and apparently clean city being back to...well, something like normal. It looked...different, in ways he didn't completely understand, but it wasn't awful and haunted anymore. Still, that didn't mean-

YEAH-HAH!!

Cole blinked a few times at that, looking for the source, just in time to see Lewis go gliding by, in a seemingly very good mood about...something. Well, that seemed different than yesterday, that was for certain.

"What in the...wait, what's going on!"

Cole took off after him, seemingly unaware that chasing after the fiery ghost as quickly as he could might separate him from Sans and Caro. Whatever had Lewis so ecstatic and excited needed to be investigated anyway.

Balconies ~ Meeting the Locals

An unfamiliar voice caught the duo's attention before they could get too far into the city. Fate and Arf turned to face its owner, a boy that appeared to be older than Fate was.

"You could say that," Arf replied, "I don't suppose you'd know anything about this city, would you?"

Fate remained quiet and simply looked over the newcomer as the other two spoke. She hadn't been in that city for very long, and their hunt for the Lost Logia often took them to places that were only sparsely inhabited. All the same, the newcomer didn't quite look like anyone who'd be living there. From appearance alone he looked to be a somewhat cocky sort, but she'd need a bit more than a sentence to confirm that.

Day 13
Eve also seemed to stay awake with Arcade, but he was too wrapped up in his thoughts to really talk with her anymore. He watched as the world blurred and changed.
Day 14
Arcade was jolted from his thoughts by a loud scream of excitement somewhere else in the City. He was so startled that he lost balance and fell backwards. He stood up quickly, and took stock of the group. Eve had walked away from the group without even warning anyone, which at least implied to Arcade that a group was not needed most of the time.

His curiosity was more powerful than his ties to the others so he decided to follow the sound of the screams, if only to see what would actually be that great. He took note of the buildings around him and decided to find that library Karkat was planning to show him once he completed his search, it sounded like his kind of place. He climbed up an oddly placed hill before finding the source of the noise.

He was grateful he'd already noticed the giant purple ghost earlier, as his reaction was much calmer than it might have been otherwise. He simply stared in confusion as the ghost flew past him oddly excited.

Day 13- General Hand-Waving
Specter Knight, having had enough of the day's conditions, managed to find a somewhat safe shelter, and wandered the City once his powers were returned to him.

Day 14- Random Street: I swear, these booklets are like those chain letters

As soon as the transition ended, Specter Knight found himself on a street. Much to his relief, the City had returned to less...troublesome state. There were several peculiar slopes and ramps, but compared to yesterday, it was all quite benign. As he looked around, a nearby kiosk grabbed his attention. He took one of the leather booklets and began reading through it. Perhaps it detailed today's conditions?

Well, the booklet certainly explained the conditions, but he seemed to have unwittingly entered himself into a contest of strength, dexterity, and the like. Damn it. He didn't care to participate, but some foolish mortal was bound to challenge him, anyway. He might as well take a pair of those glasses, which he did.

For the time being, he would make his way to the Library.

Abel & Rixis - Forest - On the Road Again (Day 13)

The duo had been wandering the carnival for a while, looking for a place to rest while simultaneously avoiding any confrontation. Eventually, they found a clearing within a forest, and the two decided to spend the night here. But once Abel had finally gotten somewhat comfortable, drifting off into sleep, he realized; he might be stuck here forever. The idea hit him like a brick. Thrown by a bodybuilder. With, like, a mechanical arm or something. Bad hyperboles aside, this thought was not very comforting. He knew next to nothing about this place, and the very notion that he would never return to Antler Pine gave him shivers. He tried to push this idea away, but it was still there, taunting him like a big blinking sign with little lights around the edges. He was gone, erased from his own world, his own universe, maybe, and no one would notice.

But maybe it was better that nobody noticed. This gave him some comfort, and soon enough he fell asleep. He didn't have a single dream.

Day 14

When he woke up, the first thing he noticed was that he wasn't sitting in grass anymore; the ground felt rougher than usual, and he knew it was concrete. The tree he was leaning on had been transformed into a garbage can, and —oh god the smell

Abel fell forward trying to escape the stench of rotting food and feces and fell on Rixis, waking him up with a start. He slowly stumbled to his feet, rubbing his head. This is a terrible way to start the day, he thought. Then he stopped. ''Wait, where am I?"

He looked around and saw that the forest was gone. In its place was an alleyway, snugly fit between two tall buildings. One way was a giant brick wall, and the other was the outside world. Abel decided not to go there for now. He did see that the road sloped down, and every once in a while a kid came down with a skateboard or scooter. He envied those kids a lot, but now was not the time for that. He looked up at the sky, then back at the dumpster a few feet away from him.

"Did...did the carnival change while we were asleep?" He said to himself. Rixis just looked confused as a response. There was no way an entire landscape could just change overnight, but the proof was there, right before his eyes. How was that even possible?

Well, given the circumstances...

"We need to go," Abel said. He coaxed Rixis into his coat and looked into the city. Out there was the future. His future. Out there was the answers. He had no idea what he had gotten into, but he was determined to find out.

"I know a thing or two. For example, there is a library in the middle of the city where no one can hurt you. The librarian working there is helping the guy that kidnapped us but I think she will like you. She loves children" that was a bad way to put it "Man, that sounded less creepy in my head"

Sports Motel, Flipping the Tryhard Switch
An uneventful night, leading into...a strange day. Unlike the other ones they had been subject to, Seiga and Yoshika looked out the window and couldn't immediately guess what today's deal was gonna be. Not like Yoshika put much thought into it, but that didn't matter.

Lucas left the motel, and Seiga observed him from a distance. He was being a good guinea pig, because if something was going to jump out and kill him, at least she could see it before it ran off.

And he walks past some ramps that weren't there yesterday, goes to a stand across the street, grabs some novelty glasses and a book and walks back inside...

Huh, not a single thing tried to kill him. That's some good luck on his part.

Seiga opened the window and headed outside, floating down to the kiosk to take one of the books. Reading time!

Sports Motel, 5 Minutes Later
Oh dear, losing today was simply not an option. The power of some creator deity at her beck and call for one sentence? The ideas swarming in her head were too numerous to list! She was going to emerge from this the victor, and best of all, she didn't have to make enemies to do it! It's all just some light fun and games, anyway, nothing to worry about.

The Hermit floated over to the first target in sight, Lucas. If she couldn't manage to beat a kid, she wasn't worthy of winning.

"So, Lucas," she whispered as to not wake up the littler ones just yet. "We're both fully aware of what the day is, right? Do you think you could take me on?"

Day 13, Forrest Gump

And so we went to that lil' rundown motel. The beds was terrible, but I didn't that get me down. My friends stopped those evil spooks in their tracks forever. In my opinion, they was much stronger than me.

We all got some shut-eye. I think I had a dream. I was teachin' my new friends how to play ping-pong while we was catchin' shrimp off the coast of Louisana. Bubba was there, and you was there, and Momma was there. We all had a good time!

Day 14, Forrest Gump

I woke up, and found my suitcase next to my bed and peeked inside. My chocolates was back again! I tried some out and left the motel to see that the carnival had poofed away. I saw Lucas talkin' about something important to Yoshika's master.

So, I picked up a pamphlet. It took me a while to read, though. It seemed everyone was interested in playin' some games to win a great prize. I placed on one of them glasses and waved at Yoshika's master and Lucas. I asked, “Would you like to play a game of ping pong?”
