[up] That would be the Force working in mysterious ways.

Even as is the Tatooine sequence is built on ridiculous coincidence after ridiculous coincidence, something that's actually remarked on in the movie. Qui-Gon wholeheartedly believed the entire thing was guided by the Force.

Well, except for that part where Qui-Gon cheated at dice.

[up][up]Honestly want a Star Wars story that plays around with Qui-Gon's Tatooine story by having a Jedi Master try what he tried, and it ends with his crew being enslaved, his ship being seized, him being killed, the Force wunderkind turning out to be a mediocre Jedi, and a delicate cold war between the Outer Rim and the Republic proper erupting into conflict with a major populated world getting sacked.

If done well it sounds like it could be interesting. That sometimes the force is just not on your side.

Or that following the will of the Force can still lead to disaster. Sometimes you need to tell that sixth sense to fuck off.

See, I find the explanation of the Force having guided Qui-Gon to Tatooine more acceptable if Anakin himself is also a product of the Force. If Anakin is just some Frankensteinian creation of Darth Plagueis, it suddenly feels really contrived.

I guess in absolute terms, it's still a contrived coincidence either way. But I think it feels easier to accept if all of it, Anakin's creation and his meeting with Qui-Gon, is the will of the Force being acted out, rather than only the latter being the Force at work and the former being the work of Plagueis.

Yeah it needs to be all or nothing with that situation. Although the Plagueis novel was pretty clear that Anakin was not made directly by Plagueis experimenting on the Force but as a sort of equal-and-opposite type of reaction. Of course whether that's STILL the case is unclear.

[up][up] : So, a product of the Will of the Force was molded by a Sith to effectively destroy the Jedi Order? I guess that [up][up][up] is the point of the PT.

Yes. And Qui-Gon was the lynchpin that allowed it.

She only said that "something" was in development — now, if it's a movie, an animated series (which would also be kind of awesome), or a video game, we have no idea.

The Old Republic just got another expansion, so I doubt it's a game. Also don't think it would be a cartoon, since they still have Resistance. Could be that trilogy that they've been very vague about, or live action tv.

@ The Will of the Force stuff

It has been pretty well established (both in film and EU/Legends) that the Force, while always finding a way to balance itself out, does tend to be a dick about it. Even if Anakin was indeed created by Plagueis, it would still be through the Force, ergo Anakin would be more tied to the Force than to Plagueis. The Force doesn't care about light or dark.

My favourite story is the one Jolee Bindo tells Revan about: an incredibly gifted Jedi named Andor Vex who was so powerful that "the Force swirled around him like a hurricane". Andor knew this, so he believed himself to be invincible. One thing leads to another, Andor gets kidnapped by some evil warlord who oppresses some sector of the galaxy, starts demanding shit like a douche and promptly gets killed by the dude. However, the evil guy throws this idiot to the reactor core of the ship, which causes the ship to explode and the evil guy's reign to end, bringing an enormous political change that'd last centuries.

If the Force is sentient it has a very dark sense of humour.

I've always seen it as the Force being less "lengthy, extensive and preordained plans to balance itself" and more "a slight but everpresent hand of guidance, while balancing free will." Which fits well with following the will of the Force being all about insight and using that insight to make the right decision, rather than sitting around divining what the Force wants like the Jedi of old did.

That said, it's not totally explicit. But I like the idea that the failing of the Jedi was in buying into tradition in general and things like prophecies in particular too much, and paying attention to the people in those prophecies and traditions too little.

So, like, instead of Anakin being intended to wipe out the Jedi all along before killing Palpatine, Anakin chooses to turn but the Force - as much as it is capable of such a thing - trusts Anakin to make the right decision in the end and guides Luke to help him do so.

I do prefer that explanation for In Mysterious Ways. Instead of "the plan is far too grand for your mortal minds to comprehend," it's "look, Vader got like a million chances to turn good again, he just finally took one at the end."
