Well he is a cruel son of a bitch.
What he did to the dwarves was pretty damn twisted.
He is an extremely insane man who genuinely believes in his own delusions

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."If he genuinely believed it, he wouldn't have blown up the Asgardians' starship. Surely he should be able to understand what underpopulation is, or that the ship itself is their resource.
There's nothing wrong with having a villain who's just a sadist, or a villain who's sincere. But when you've got a villain who performs sadist actions and insist the story frame him as sincere, then you've got a problem.

He’s really committed to the whole half & half thing.
Doesn’t matter if there’s already so few left, even less is better so half it.
Old man’s totally off his fucking rocker.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I haven't listened to it, but apparently the DVD commentary for Avengers: Infinity War seems to suggest the Russos never meant Thanos to be completely sympathetic. Evidently, the reason he's going with the "kill half the universe" plan is because he wants to prove his initial proposal to save Titan was right all along, no matter how many better alternatives there are.
Granted, we still have the next Avengers film to go through. Maybe this angle will be explored more, maybe not. It all depends on how the next film frames things.

Makes sense, but like you said, it'll depend on the framing.
Thanos' motivation in the MCU is dumb because wanting to fuck Death is already the best motivation for a villain like Thanos.
Don't want to be "that guy" but this is clearly devolving to an Infinity War thread when earlier we brought up thanos vis a vis villains in MCU vs spider-man movies, Sony v Marvel, and of course Venom and Thanos. Bear in mind I was only describing how Thanos came across "an Evil Overlord you can hang out with" not saying "thanos was right" or any such thing. I mean that's not what it's about when villains are cool...I was only talking about an affectation and aspect of character performance. The fact that Evil Is Cool doesn't stop the fact that Evil is still Evil. So yeah Thanos being a nutcase whose plan makes no sense...all that is true, but that doesn't change that Thanos by Josh Brolin is a highly personable and sentimental take on an archetype which is refreshing.
In the case of Spider-Verse...the big villain appears to be Kingpin with Ultimate Goblin as his enforcer. So let's talk about that. I personally never felt that Kingpin was really effective as a Spider-Man villain (he's awesome as Daredevil's villain) and attempts to do so especially Bendis' Ultimate Kingpin amount to him being a Villain Mary Sue (which JMS finally called him out in Back in Black where Peter wails on Big Willie). I also don't care for Ultimate Goblin, because again he's now better suited as a Captain America or Hulk villain than a Spidey one. The Green Goblin works best as a Halloween-themed trickster sadist with gadgets, gliders, and so on. He's the Evil Batman/Bruce Wayne and Spider-Man 1 and Spectacular Spider-Man totally got that.
He’s a far more personable villain than The Inheritors, but I’m personally wondering if it’s a good idea to use him right after Daredevil Season 3.
The movie has a $90M budget [1]
If my knowledge of movie economics is right, then that's actually on the lower end for a production of this nature. It's not Pixar money or Dreamworks money...
Kingpin worked pretty well in the 90s animated series as a man behind the man, and Tombstone fulfilled a very similar role in TSSM, so it can work. From the trailers, it's Kingpin's plan going wrong that's the problem
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/spider-man-spider-verse-sequel-spinoff-works-sony-1164210 A sequel and all female cast spinoff in the works already. Sequel will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery is in talks to direct the female spinoff
35 year old white man.Get me steam-punk Spider-Lady & Mayday in that spin-off & you got me sold.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Counting your chickens and all that. Still, buzz is good, but no clue if that translates to box office.
Funny coincidence but Into the Spider-Verse U.S release date is the same as Voltron's final season. Guess Dos Santos and Montgomery found new work already
35 year old white man...... damn. The movie isn't even OUT yet! And already we're getting two more expansions! The focus groups must've been stellar.
Well deserved, too. I wish them the best.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Hey man. Anything that makes people take animated superheroes seriously.
More quality action animation is always a plus to me.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."We need less Teen Titans Go, or dramatic DCAU films pushed into a home streaming release.
All the Twitter reactions so far are extremely positive so far.
Remember the last times Sony tried to jury-rig a Shared Universe? I mean all those plans fell apart pretty quickly when ASM-2 bombed. So I think Spider-Verse expansions plans will only happen based on how the movie performs. It has advantages in that kids can see it, Spider-Man movies were earlier PG-13 and so on but this is rated PG so small kids can see it. So that's a bigger audience than usual.
Wait for the box office numbers. If it reels in cash like Venom, then go ahead Sony.
Mileena MadnessFormal reviews kick off with IGN, giving the film 9/10.
Thanos is an idiot who does not understand basic economics, and I did not buy the Affably Evil direction they attempted with him. I think he would've been better showing that his verbosity was simply a mask over cruelty.
