Holy crap, eleven upcoming movies. There's no friggin' way all of these are getting made. That's almost as much as the Marvel friggin' Cinematic Universe has so far.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I also wonder if all these news are a way of gauging people's interest in some of the projects. As in, the ones which get people to talk about them the most are the ones that will be made.
It's a risky marketing move, but it can pay off.
Well, I think enough people will get interested in seeing them get made.
I expect that they'll be doled out every, say, few months over the next few years if they intend to go through with making them all.
That way the bubble will burst much, much quicker...
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."We still don't even have a Red Riding Hood movie or Jack and the Beanstalk or Hansel and Gretel
Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand TogetherYou mean live action or animated? Because Disney did do a Mickey Mouse Jack and the Beanstalk cartoon.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Either? I was completely unaware of that. But obviously it wasn't that successful.
The worst thing about all these Remakes is that I'm almost certain they'll either stray way too far from the stories or they won't add anything interesting and new at all
There's also a nagging fear that they'll white wash any of the minority characters.

Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand Together"Mickey and the Beanstalk." It was a part of Fun and Fancy Free.
(I'm more partial to the Mickey Mouse "Brave Little Tailor" myself...)
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Red Riding Hood also had a Disney short in the Golden Age, although so did Chicken Little for that matter...
I can see it now: Spring 2018: Red Riding Hood; Fall 2018: Chicken Little 2.

Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundI'm sure that this is going to become the next Disney Sequel factor. Think about it, they were made just for money, and are known to ruin childhoods. (Admittedly, I did not see the new Cinderella movie, and I heard it's good) Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and I might be dreaming but maybe there would be a new creative director (or CEO, I'm not a businessman so I don't know how this works from a creative standpoint) to stop these remakes from happening.
From The Wrap:
Bagheera finds Mowgli and we're told that "the jungle is no longer safe. I'll return him to where he belongs."
We see Idris Elba's killer tiger Shere Khan stalking Mowgli through the outback in a thriller sequence that ends with him jumping off a cliff, after which he's discovered by Bill Murray's Baloo the Bear. Baloo tells Mowgli to "relax" and that "there's no need to get worked up." Then he sings the classic Disney song "Bare Necessities," a song about "the good life," though Mowgli confesses he doesn't know what a song is. "Everyone's got a song," Baloo assures him. As the trailer nears its end, we see Shere Khan warning Mowgli that "if you come back, I'll be waiting," before the footage concludes with Christopher Walken's orangutan King Louie saying "I am the king!" — which brought the house down.
You know, I didn't mind it at first.
Cinderella was good, had great visuals, and I like the idea of a slower paced retelling of some classic stories to paint in different interpretations of the character relationships (for example, Cinderella explored the relationship between her and her stepmother significantly and Cinderella and her Prince). Its fine.
And I didn't mind the idea of Beauty and the Beast because that's a classic tale and the French just recently did a Big Budget La Belle Et La Bete adaptation and that film was nothing short of beautiful to look at. Plus, getting to in depth explore the relationship between Belle and Beaste? Yes, plz!
But... Maleficent is getting a Sequel?!?! And Jungle Book is getting a live action adaptation for the SECOND time??? And now an Aladdin Prequel on the Genie??? Was ANYONE asking for these???
Like, ok, maybe Jungle Book is ok (I've personally never liked many films from Disney's Dark Age, but eh) and I'll let it pass, but Malificent was godawful and I don't think anyone left Aladdin wondering 'You know, that Genie character must have a deep important backstory that was missing from the original, I want to see more'. Even more uncomfortable since Robin Williams MADE that movie and stole the show so having a film about his character so soon after his death makes me a bit uncomfortable.
I seriously hope to fuck that this is just another silly rumour, that Disney wouldn't be this fucking stupid but:
http://www.allkpop.com/forums/discussion/451598/scarlett-johansson-mulan
A. White. Woman. Playing. Mulan.
"“We are aware that casting Scarlett may not agree with everyone’s opinion on what Mulan should be, but we find that we’re going to appeal to a much wider audience with Scarlett and create a much more financially viable production than in a scenario where we had hired some Chinese actress.”
Didn't your class of fuckwits learn anything from those fuckwits who gave the okay for the white-washing of Avatar the Last Airbender, Disney? No? Insert Les Grossman's rant to the Purple Dragon cartel from "Tropic Thunder" here, as Les does this kind of thing much better:
I don't think Disney would be that goddamn stupid. Saying that would be like throwing the film into an oncoming bus.
Given how blatantly offensive that quote is, I'm going to go with "fake."
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. This is Disney. Don't put anything past them.
They still have a public image to uphold. I don't think anyone in the company is stupid enough to not know that not casting an Asian woman in this adaptation of a Chinese legend will cause a shitstorm.
There's been several dustups like that in the past, and I don't think they're not aware of that.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."According to this only slightly less dubious source, Disney's actually looking at Tina from Glee to play Mulan. She's Korean-American so...at least she's not white?
And Ming-Na Wen has apparently stated that she does want to be involved in the movie in some fashion.
"If I reach for the stars, you can't hold me back""At least she is not white"? Okay, I totally get that the role of a Chinese warrior should be played by an Asian. But does it really matter if the Actress is specifically Chinese, as long as she can pass for one? White actors play roles out of their own nationality all the time. There is really no need to create a double standard.
It does irk a lot of people, especially Chinese folk who can, in fact, tell the difference between a Chinese actress and a Korean one.
I know a lot of Japanese people were upset when Memoirs of a Geisha had a main cast of mostly Chinese actors.
"If I reach for the stars, you can't hold me back"I am ready to bet that if you would introduce them to a Chinese and a Korean Woman in the same clothes and both speaking English, they wouldn't be able to tell what the roots of either of them are.
Japan and China have a very bloody history.

The Scarlet Johansson 'news' are most likely more butthurt exaggeration over the whole Ghost in the Shell thing (with Motoko, at least, she's a cyborg who doesn't actually look Asian in the manga).
I updated the first post in the thread with every planned release.
