Yeah, I was a bit...deflated by that finale, I dunno, I guess I've been spoiled on my old TV Century 21 comic strips where The Hood infiltrated the island and did a lot worse when he was there in those comics. At least Kayo's outed her family ties to the boys
Heard from a reliable source that Jeff Tracy is returning at some point when the series comes back too.
Did anybody catch the first two episodes of this new season today on prime time ITV?
Earth-Shaker was great...established The Mechanic as a big deal, gave Kayo a big Sonic The Hedgehog-style struggle to reach the guy inside the Earth-Shaker, gave Scott someone stubborn and difficult to rescue, and there's a great homage to the T2 crash from the original series, they even bring out the fire extinguishers the same way. Unlike the original series though, Virgil is'nt too badly banged up.
The Mechanic knows Brains..hmmm, maybe my theories are right.
The Hood is communicating with The Mechanic via some gadget attached to one of his eyes.
Alas, the second episode, "Ghost Ship", is a filler story, as John and Alan help with the investigation of an abandoned space ship manned by Pi-Rates (that's how they like to be called) and robots that have been causing trouble for them as they're programmed to try and finish construction on the long-abandoned ship. At the end John promises not to tell Kayo Alan is scared of ghosts and Alan promises not to tell Scott, but both Scott and Kayo were listening in anyway. As an Alan/Kayo 'shipper I'm glad John brought up the idea Kayo's interested in all of Alan's little faults.
"Hey how long does it take to get from Earth to Europa?"
"Well it took the Pendergasts a year. So we should be there in a day, tops."

Six episodes in now. A lot of the episodes have focused on Alan and Gordon lately, and this was no different with Gordon falling fowl of the Mechanic, but we got to learn about Jeff Tracy's prototype T-Bird the TV-21, and poor Thunderbird 4 got it's wings clipped.
There's a nice nod to the classic series too, as Jeff's old headgear is the old-school hats, Gordon even tries it on and wonders what compelled them to ever wear such things
I think I've pinpointed the biggest difference between this and the original show. First There's the whole issue of run time. The original series had an hour per episode and it used that hour to draw out tension and build suspense. This new show tries to be more "action packed" and as a result has a harder time building tension. Another thing Is, in this knew series, half the time International Rescue is saving the lives of idiots, who have no idea what they're doing. In the original a group of professional would usually be doing work in a piece of experimental machinery, and then something would go wrong, usually through no fault of theirs. And they acted like professionals. They were calm and collected and sometimes they were useful. Compare that to the kid Scott rescued in the last episode, or recurring characters who need to be rescued multiple times in several different episodes.
Just saw "Fight or Flight." You know everything I said in my last post? Yeah, none of those issues apply to this one. Everyone was operating at 100% competence and the episode was great at maintaining tension. There were a couple new wrinkles added in that made IR change their plans and even with everyone doing their very best they were only able to save the day by the narrowest of margins. A great episode, very much in the vein of the original series. I wish we had more like it.
So little confused of whether mechanic got away or not .-.
I reckon he did, and that he was responsible for the self-destruct.
BTW, that episode was the mid-season finale, it'll be a while before the show comes back on in the UK.
We haven't had an episode since January. Are we getting one anytime soon?
I've just finished watching the first series on Prime. It was enjoyable enough, I suppose. I absolutely loved watching the original series in the 90's and I feel the condensed run time of the new series really hurts the tension and pacing. Even just another eight minutes or so would have helped, or maybe even make them two parters.
I'm curious: does the show improve much in the second season? I'm curious enough to maybe see about getting it.
The second half of season two starts this weekend
The most recent episode has David Tennant AKA the Tenth Docotor/Scrooge McDuck/Professor Honeycutt in it. Next episode is the season finale.
Did'nt think the finale was up to snuff really. Did'nt get any revelations about The Mechanic either. Not even a backstory on how he got Sentinel up and running.
When the Hood said that something worse was coming, I thought he was talking a bout a group of baddies. Possibly even a cabal of people with plans for world domination. We got the Mechanic. I was disappointed. Also, when he first appeared I thought he was going to be revealed to have some ties to Brains, like a colleague or childhood friend or something. But no dice.
That was a pretty good opener...nice to see everything sort of start in media res. I like also how they very briefly subvert the expectation of info-dumping through Captain Rigby's presentation, allowing International Rescue to supply the audience with the info on the crew. Always have to make the GDF look a little out-of-step, and you just know those R.O.BOTS will turn on everything before long.
Knew Havoc's capture was too easy...not so much a fan of the off-screen fight she had with Kayo, made you think they were saving money
As for the actual info dump on the Chaos Crew...you couldn't be more toy commercial if you tried.
Wait, did the new season start already?
Started today, yeah
How popular is this show anyway? I mean, it got third season at least ._.
I'm not entirely sure. I don't think it's doing amazingly well. They didn't release a Christmas annual last year, despite releasing one the year before. That suggests it's not particularly popular.
That being said I used to work at a cinema and they released showed a couple of episodes of the new show and a 'lost' episode of the original a few months ago. My local screen was near a complete sell out.

After over a year, the third season is reportedly resuming on the 18th of May, and Lee Majors will have a role in the show, playing Jeff Tracy

Series Three resumed this morning
Almost like Sky News had written the episode with all the preaching about the pollution corroding the great barrier reef and its successor. Penelope was a bit more vulnerable in this episode too since she has a thing for Gordon and he was in trouble navigating through the acidic waters.
Also got to see a solo launch for Thunderbird 4, and a cameo from Stingray as a toy sub
Alan's Cavern Quest user name is "Alonius", rofl
Sylvester Mc Coy voiced the Wizard in this (it's basically what he does these days besides the Seventh Doctor), and revealed his real name really is Sylvester at the end.
Chaos Crew acted alone in this, they were going to surprise the Hood with their appropriation of the Holotrix, but they failed, and Hood told them he had a plan in place to nab it anyway.
It was nice to get an Alan/Kayo story, they get so little to do together sometimes, and their banter was great. Kayo warmly smiling at Alan's enthusiasm for the game at the start got a reaction from me as I 'ship 'em.
Great episode, though if it weren't for the ending you would'nt think it was a two parter at all. Liked the little nods to the original Alien movie, and Scott is mistaken for Jeff...I wonder if he'll resemble an older looking Scott when we meet him. I like that Braeman also quotes different things every now and then in between delivering the SOS.
Gordon's B plot was hilarious, I like that Parker already thinks of Penelope as Gordon's girlfriend. I think everyone, Penelope included, kind of know that's what they are now and Gordon's not yet resigned to outright stating it officially. He's weird that way.
That second part was more intense than the first...it's alarming to think just last week Gordon had a comedy side-plot, and this week he's in intensive care with severe injuries
Still, it's awesome that Penelope ended up rescuing him. In some ways it's a resolution to how helpless she had felt back in "Deep Water", this time she wasn't going to stand by while her man was in trouble. Their little exchange at the hospital was quite tender too. I hope we get a big damn kiss between the two by season's end.
About the only interesting thing with the Chaos Crew was how one of them showed concern for Gordon (possibly sowing the seeds for them to turn on The Hood if he goes too far?), aside from a big old boring chase that ended in the big plot device being conveniently dumped back in IR's lap, there wasn't much else of note with them other than getting the better of Gordon...it's a shame as that made them look just a little more dangerous
Aaaand that's it for season one. I've been a bit critical of this show, but I do appreciate that it's willing to change up the status quo, and we may get an even bigger shakeup next season.
