Alright then. I thought you were trying to argue, as opposed to just bring up supporting facts. My mistake.

RE: Nintendo avoiding "crunching":

See, it's stuff like THAT that makes me regard Nintendo to a slightly higher degree than the others.

EA and BioWare, take notes after you finish sucking that bucket of lemons.

[up]Yeah. They’re still a profit-driven corporation that wants your money, but they understand that they have an image to keep up as the Willy Wonka video game factory everyone remembers them as, and I think that’s become part of their company culture over the past decade. I really respect this Animal Crossing delay. It’s good that they want their employees to go home and see their families or have non-work lives. If you don’t, you get the craziness that was RDR 2’s development. I think Nintendo has established a pattern of good behavior with stuff like being forthright about restarting Metroid Prime 4 to ensure quality, or Iwata cutting his own salary so he wouldn’t have to lay people off in the Wii U years.

Frankly the Animal Crossing delay looked more strategic to me to ensure the first half of the year isn't a joke for once. Especially since they already have a date. But hey, whatever works out for them.

Four big names within Nintendo have received promotions:

Aya Kyogoku (Animal Crossing) is now Manager of EPD Group 5.

Hisashi Nogami (Animal Crossing/Splatoon) is now a Deputy General Manager and Producer.

Eiji Aonuma (The Legend of Zelda) is also a Deputy General Manager and Producer.

Yoshihito Ikebata (Luigi's Mansion/Metroid Prime/Mario vs Donkey Kong) is now a developer within EPD Group 6.

She later moved to work on the Animal Crossing series, starting with City Folk. She was a co-director of New Leaf with Isao Moro, where she led a revolutionary movement within Nintendo with the women designers.

Interesting. I see that she also did a lot of work on Smash Ultimate.

"Revolutionary movement"? What? Can't we get any more details?

Is the revolutionary movement just working with other female devs? If that's so, that's pretty cool.

some thoughts on Nintendo at E3 2019.

1. Once again I find myself flipping the bird to EA for yet another year with no Madden on the Switch. I don’t care that the Switch version wouldn’t have the same features as the X-Box and Playstation versions. I just want to play NFL teams on the Switch and I mean real NFL teams (playing Tecmo Bowl through Nintendo Online doesn’t count). EA thinks they’re throwing us a bone by giving us FIFA but it just makes it all the more infuriating that EA can do one sports franchise on the Switch and not their others.

2. Another flip of the bird to Disney XD. Disney’s alternative cable channel provided hours of coverage for E3 2018 but didn’t do jack for E3 2019. I miss G 4 TV.

3. I didn’t see JC during Nintendo Treehouse segments which is a shame because I liked him. You may remember JC as the star of Nintendo videos for Wii Music and Splatoon 1.

4. My only experience with Dragon Quest has been limited to Fortune Street. News of Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest DLC for Smash Bros. makes me just feel sad we’ll probably never get another Fortune Street in the States. What idiot at Nintendo thought it would be a good idea to release Fortune Street a mere 2 weeks after Skyward Sword?

5. Resident Evil 5 is finally coming to a Nintendo system. According to what I’ve read, Capcom considered putting RE 5 on the Wii but backed out due to poor sales of the W Ii version of RE 4. RE 4 was at least popular enough on the Gamecube to be Nintendo Power’s Overall Game Of The Year. A rarity for a third party game and the only Mature-rated game to do so in the 24 years of the Nintendo Power Awards.

6. Banjo Kazooie, welcome back to the same old place that you laughed about. I don’t intend on purchasing any DLC for Smash Bros. as I’m fine sticking with Rosalina but I eagerly await seeing other gamers use Banjo Kazooie to kick my butt. I hope Banjo Kazooie DLC includes a stage based on Click-Clock Wood, which isn’t just my favorite level of the 1998 classic but maybe my favorite level of any platformer I’ve ever played.

7. Luigi’s Mansion 3 looks promising. I’m glad the game has Gooigi and not Pooigi. I wonder if Luigi’s Mansion 4 will introduce Wagooigi (“Take That, Mr. Eyeballs!”). My one disappointment is that the game’s video didn’t include Daisy in the shot of Luigi’s friends who need to be rescued. Nintendo never officially stated Luigi and Daisy are an item but I’ve had my suspicions every since Mario Tennis 64. I don’t think Luigi was in Super Mario Land so I really want to see him get a chance to rescue Daisy in a video game.

8. I like playing platformers far more than creating them. I’ll probably pass on Super Mario Maker 2 but won’t pass on Super Lucky’s Tale. That’s not to say I disliked SM 1 I just don’t feel need to do it again. I may get the Yooka Laylee sequel but only if I ever beat the original.

9. Nintendo Treehouse spend a fair amount of time with Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Super Mario Maker 2 but the Mario game at E3 that got me most interested was the Mario-Sonic game for the Tokyo Olympics. Sega is producing a Mario-Sonic game for the first time since the London Olympics. I’ve never understood why Sega only does Sonic Olympic games with Mario. Is there no Microsoft-exclusive or Sony-exclusive franchise that could be suitable for a crossover with Sonic?

10. Unfortunately E3 did not change my opinion on Link’s Awakening. The remake still doesn’t look different enough for me to repurchase a game when I own the DX version and have already beaten it on all 3 save files. The Zelda Encyclopedia states the hero of Link’s Awakening is also the hero of A Link To The Past and the Oracle games. To me, the new Link Amiibo doesn’t just represent LA but 4 Zelda games.

11. I was sure the final video of the Nintendo Direct would be about Metroid Prime 4. I expected a silver mine but found a gold mine. I don’t pay too much attention to what happened in the video since I’m sure it’s a teaser trailer and not a direct cut scene from Breath of The Wild 2. I’m sure the final version of BOTW 2 will be radically different from what the game looks like now.

Panzer Dragoon, Trials of Mana. Also I somehow think this was the first time Doom Eternal was confirmed for Switch.

Suda tried to hedge it on the success of Travis Strikes Again, which didn't do exactly gangbusters with either sales the critics, which is why some people might've been skeptical. I'm surprised they had a trailer this soon though.

Nintendo launches a Japanese customer service Twitter account. Seems to only be for customer service announcements since they push you toward the support site.

So, I'm up for a new Nintendo Direct. Anybody think that we'll get one this month? I'm thinking sometime after the 10th.

The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.

Not likely since E3 was last month. Directs tend to come every other month at minimum.

[up] That's why I said "sometime after the 10th". I figured that that would be enough time since after E3 for a new fresh Direct to come around, and I've always figured that Directs were mostly a once-a-month deal.

Realistically outside a Nindies showcase or a game specific video in the summer (Fire Emblem or Astral Chain), I don't think we'll get a full blown multi-game Direct till September. They generally space those out these days, with occasional content like Pokemon presentations in between to satiate curiosity about major games.

The schedule for general directs (ie not focused on just Smash, Mario Maker, or FE) these last 13 months has been

-E3 2018

-September 2018

-February 2019

-E3 2019

Maybe one late August this year to shake things up, but not likely to be any sooner than that.

The chances of a Direct is dependent on when Nintendo is expecting Luigi's Mansion 3 to come out.

October? Direct in August. December or later? September or October Direct.
