Going off the preview it's the follow up with Dabi and Hawks, the family talk, and the vestiges dream. As far as "real" first episode of the season goes it'll have a lot.

So if I'm understanding correctly MHA sold over 10 million copies 8at a lower estimate) in about 3 months? That's pretty massive, and way out of the usual for this series.

I mean watching Shouto passive-aggressively slurp noodles is probably the scene I'm looking forward to most this season.

[up][up][up]Not quite, the former numbers (30 mil) where solely for Japan, while the newer ones (50 mil) are all copies sold worldwide. I am seeing 37 mil for Japan and 13 mil international mentioned here and there, but without sources.

Alright! The new episode of Season 5 came out!
One thing I noticed was that they omitted Touya in the flashback to Young Shouto getting dragged by Endeavor... Apart from that, it went smooth.
Next episode is the start of the team battle! Can't wait to see my fave boi Shinsou again!!

[up]You know this is the manga thread; you don't have to tag anything. There's an anime thread if you feel like you need to.

Maybe a minority opinion - more and more I feel like the anime is lacking as an adaptation. Part of that is comparing it to other things (like Attack On Titan or Jujutsu Kaisen) and it just not being on the same level, but even putting that aside I feel like the slight changes or cuts they make add up to a lesser whole, an also they don't give moments even one or two seconds to breathe.

And I understand they have to keep moving and be concise, but even with that leeway I still can't fully justify it in mind.

Yeah, the anime has been kind of in Looney Tunes pacing since last season since they try to cram as much stuff as possible.

For example in the Todoroki family scene there's supposed be this awkward silence and then Fuyumi tries to smooth things, but it's so quick that it feels like she's the one being awkward for no reason.

Funny since usually the most obvious flaw of shonen adaptations is extremely slow pacing to avoid catching up to the manga.

Huh this is an old comment but I found one calling Hawks a government assassin for killing Twice.

Uhhhhhhh kinds missing the important context there. Just funny to think about.

We've already established that context flat out doesn't matter to the people saying Hawks murdered Twice. Although calling him a government assassin is still an additional level of incorrect.

It’s also apparently contradicting and hypocritical to what the heroes are trying to teach the students or something.

Weird shit. [lol]

The reveal of his backstory just makes me more sympathetic to Hawks

The hero association didn’t just send him in as a double agent because he could do it or because his stated philosophy of a world where heroes have nothing to do would make it believable for him to join the liberation front but because they essentially owned him as a person

And the relief he feels at having his life destroyed because now there’s not this weight on his shoulders

I think some fans were expecting that we'd eventually get this whole arc exploring the Hero Safety Commission and their corruption and all the politics of the hero world.

I guess some fans are still waiting for a moment of "the hero side is just as guilty as the villain side" which I don't think it's ever going to do. And, really, I think I'd roll my eyes if it tried to.

Well, less political and more on the business/government side of things. When you have a government presence in superhero fictions, if they're shown to even be slightly morally grey, it's generally assumed that they're secretly super shady.

Yeah raising kids to do dirty work is not on the up and up, even outside of western media.

One of the surprising aspects of MHA, at least from the superhero genre perspective, is how being a government official is not treated as a bad thing in-universe, it's just part of the job.

So far, Geten is the only who insulted the heroes by calling them "dogs of the state".

Despite my earlier comments, I am still looking forward to seeing the upcoming fights animated and expanded. Hopefully my unease is assuaged quickly.

In that regard it’s looking pretty good going by the trailers at least.

Hopefully if so the animation quality is maintained for Shiggy and co’s big moments.
