I tell you what, they've been making an increasingly good case for this world maybe not deserving to be saved.

Like, seriously, at this point it's a thing that pretty much everyone in every level of society who aren't our heroes are either for Agent Liberty, too racist to really care, or too corrupt to really care. Nobody wants to stop the cultist serial killer simply because he's a cultist serial killer, the protagonists get nothing but shit and scorn for trying, and despite Manchester's "just fucking kill them all" solution clearly not helping he's right that Supergirl is pretty much incapable of fixing this one on account of being an alien herself.

It strongly reminds me of how Goblins portrayed human cities. The goblin paladin takes one glance at the civilians (who see themselves as normal folks despite being in a moral systems that condones killing "evil/non-human" races) and immediately pegs everyone as evil. The only solution they had was to get the hell out as fast as they could.

I'm actually really interested in how they're going to pull a neat and tidy resolution out of this one, because at this point the writers have put Earth-38 in the middle of a shitshow that would take decades of civil rights movements to parse through.

Yeah, that's a good point. It's part of what personally makes this season so hard to watch for me (though that's mainly because of how much what's happening in the show parallels the shitshow going on IRL), but not in a bad way, if that makes sense. Especially since this season does seem adamant on testing Kara's belief in the best of people. I do wonder how Earth-38 is gonna wind up being able to look even semi-okay by the end of the season.

.. Lena deploys mass Mind-Con... cough, education drones, that cure racism? Or her super-power process gets mental modifications for "Greater Open-mindedness" added on, while she is being transhumanist anyway.

More seriously, the problem is that supergirls earth is essentially Casablanca. A very minor nation that is solely important as a place people can run away to when shit hits the fan among the powers of the universe...

Except a lot of people want to pull a Korea and be a hermit kingdom. Which.. No, that is not a good idea, and is likely to result in gunboat diplomacy, because Earth has no actual defenses whatsoever and staging campaigns of ethnic cleansing when any random military can swoop in and clean your clock is, in addition to being Evil, also stupid.

I mean, that random immigrant family kept a dragon as a pet!

... But really, if the show wants to keep on using Lena as the morally gray frenemy, the best next move is to have her just take over. President Luthor.

Ooh, Lena as President would actually be fun. Because then she would be Supergirl's superior.

I also forgot to mention it, but thoughts on Kara's decision to not reveal her identity?

I mean, President Sheridan Baker made a point about how he has to have his family being guarded by the Secret Service but he's still out there.

Of course, as others have pointed out, Kara's showed up at the DEO while still in disguise before so most of the agents should know who she is, and this kinda reeks of Idiot Plot, but still.

Catching up on episodes. Watching Bunker Hill. For a guy that's literally twice as smart as everyone else on the planet put together, Brainiac is really dumb.

Brainy was annoying as hell early on. For all the talk about how smart he was, all he seemed to do was bash his head into walls and complain about primitive present day technology while everyone else actually solved problems with their intelligence and creativity.

Well, thats the problem with super smart characters. If you protray them realistically, everyone else is pretty much useless. If you try to avoid that, you can very easily make them come across as Know-Nothing Know-It-All or Informed Ability.

[up]x4: I think Kara's decision makes sense, not because of the "her loved ones could be in danger" angle, because, like you said, President Baker did mention he obviously has similar problems (then again, not like Kara's got the Secret Service at her beck-and-call, so I mean...), but because, the anti-alien sentiment is really high in Earth-38. No shit she doesn't want to reveal her secret identity, because then that means it's public knowledge that Kara Danvers is an alien!

Also, of course the DEO agents should already know who she is. She's Alex's sister, and she hangs out around the DEO sometimes. That's not unusual. I mean, Winn even brought his mom over that one time! It's sad though that Winn's mom got to see Supergirl but Kara never has... poor Kara misses out on all the fun.

Somebody on Reddit asked what Supergirl should do for its 100th episode.

I've been thinking about this since I watched Flash this week.

Of course, they're gonna have to bring back Cat Grant and all characters from Season 1, maybe even a visit to cave DEO.

I was wondering if they could do a similar episode like Black Mercy where Kara hallucinates a what if situation. Like, What if Kara hadn't gotten stuck in the phantom zone and arrived on Earth with Baby Kal.

This would be an episode I'd tune back in for. That and another Red Kryptonite episode.

they've been making an increasingly good case for this world maybe not deserving to be saved.

Like, seriously, at this point it's a thing that pretty much everyone in every level of society who aren't our heroes are either for Agent Liberty, too racist to really care, or too corrupt to really care

...it sounds like this show is becoming dark and dismal.

Finally caught up. Damn, this season has been on point. Disturbingly realistic. I do wish they would emphasize the difference between alien refugees and alien invaders more (like when the Daxamites invaded, Lena's mother claimed she tried to stop it, and no one pointed out that her plan to throw all the immigrants off the planet would have done nothing to help), but it's still good. And that's a distinction that real-world racists are good at ignoring, so again, realistic.

Like, seriously, at this point it's a thing that pretty much everyone in every level of society who aren't our heroes are either for Agent Liberty, too racist to really care, or too corrupt to really care.

Arrow was pretty bad about this, with the populace either hating Team Arrow or loving them depending on the needs of the plot. At least Supergirl has the excuse of Lockwood controlling the narrative. This season has been good enough that I trust they'll figure out a way to make it reasonable. Several CoL have already been talked down once they witnessed the true hypocrisy of the organization. We also might get a Blue Wave situation, where the sane people finally have enough. I'm imagining a scene where hundreds of masked CoL are in the streets trying to fight Supergirl while she's defending aliens, and thousands of unmasked humans step up to help.

On another topic, I'm interested to see where the Supergirl identity storyline goes. I wasn't able to interpret the looks on the faces of the DEO agents watching—were they hoping she'd stand her ground, or expecting her to be a hypocrite?

Also, the new president is an idiot, but that's no surprise. It's been literally centuries since any US vice president was picked because they'd make a good alternate if the president was unfit to serve for any reason. He should be operating on the assumption that he's not going to get a second term, ignore his poll ratings, and focus on keeping the country from dissolving into a civil war.

Science geek doing the intro!

Well I guess this technically makes him Bizarro? Yep. Definitely.

Eh, Brightburn looks scarier. tongue

Awwww! Barry's adorable.

Killer Frost looks good in ARGUS gear.

This actually reminds me a lot of the conclusion to the Drakkon-Arc from the Power Rangers Comics. Except science geek wasn't nearly as thorough.

And it's Monitor-douche. Wonderful. Here's hoping the heroes end up killing him and his minion by the end. Monitor-douche is uber-annoying.

Cisco rocking a suit!

Yep, just like Injustice, bringing in the big gun to deal with the imposter.

Now this is a sweet scene between the sisters.

I'm liking Mafia Ramon.

HA! Now so long as Monitor-douche stays out of it, science geek is screwed!

Alex is awesome and it's time for some good old fashioned Superman VS Superman action! Place your bets now ladies and gentlemen! I'm voting for Superman!

And it was Supergirl who won that one!

Nice going Barry now you're all screwed again!

Well, a win's a win I guess, but they really should just kill science geek and punch out the monitor. [lol]

Yep. Definitely should've just killed him. [lol]

Wait... if he couldn't see or affect anything out of his universe, and literally only knew about Kara and Clark in the sense that they fought Amazo, how did he Deegan know to copy Alex?

Edit: Okay, so it makes sense, but is only just a little odd. Deegan isn't altering people from Kara's Earth, he's altering the Earth 1 versions of them. But he's still altering them in ways that require him to know things he doesn't (like making Jimmy into "Superman's Worst Pal").

And that really doesn't explain Gary's presence.

Well, that was pretty awesome. And I'm glad they kept some humor in there, in even managed to include more Lois and Brainiac and even J'onn, for what little he was in. (Although did it make sense that Brainiac would be the one taking down AMAZO? I thought Brainiac only had mind powers?)

I also think that Superman and Lois going to Argo makes sense, too, since a super-kid would be a lot of trouble, but I also hope they return. Hell, if they do a time jump (or some other timey wimey-ness), we could have a married Lois and Clark and a ten-year-old Jon Kent.

I have no idea how they are going to do Crisis on Infinite Earths, though, unless they do it as, like, a complete separate mini-series that's five or six episodes long. Ooh, that might be interesting: before Season 6 of Flash, Season 5 of Supergirl, and Season 8 of Arrow, they have a combined mini-series that takes the place of the annual crossover and the conclusion ends with Earth-1 and Earth-38 combined. How does that sound?

Well, that was pretty nutty.

And they're doing Crisis. How far do you think they'll go? Will they merge universes? Will they involve Black Lightning?

Barry and Kara's near deaths were a pretty blatant homage (more so on Barry's side than Kara's), but the former still has his canonical disappearance during the Crisis. I'm wondering where this will go?
