Well... since I don't have anything else to talk about, I'll just ramble about my next school year(which starts the 25th of August), since there's going to be a lot of changes I have to get used to(and I just finished my first year there). We're going to have eleven periods instead of the usual eight, so we could have more electives[[note]]we still get out of school at 2:30, so it's not that bad.[[note]] and study halls will no longer exist. The first period classes will also serve as our homeroom, so, we'll start first period and the remaining seven minutes of the period will be used for homeroom. And we might have to wear school colours (blue, grey, white, and black).
Macron's notesNo more study halls? Dear lord. All in all, what an odd set of changes. When you say "wearing school colors", do you mean uniforms or just... they'll make you wear only clothes that have the school colors?
Oh, no more study halls??! D:
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkdStudy halls are being abolished because well... most people don't study there; we were just allowed to do whatever we wanted. It was basically the only place you can use your cellphone without being reprimanded even though cellphones weren't supposed to be seen anywhere(not even the cafeteria), so people took advantage of that. It's a shame because there are a few people like who actually use the period to study.
We don't wear uniforms, so just clothes that abide the dress code that have the school colours.
Macron's notesWell, the people in our study halls don't ever study.
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkdI honestly can't decide if that's just dumber than uniforms or not. Like... it's pointless. The fuck?
Shame about the study halls, though. Both for the people who actually study and because damnit, a break in the monotony is really nice sometimes.
Even though I don't like it, I understand why we won't have study halls anymore or the fact we are going to have more electives; I think the school wants us to perform better academically. G.A.R isn't performing well to put it nicely. Our graduation rate used to be 98% but in over 5 years it dropped to 84%. We are below the state average (88%) now. The way things are now, there are more people having to repeat a grade or class again than people who are actually passing.
I sort of wish I was in my former cyber school (the work was more challenging and I rarely got distracted)... I never been to a public school prior 2013-2014 school year.
Macron's notesIt literally just occurred to me that we're in the Pennsylvania thread. Hah.
So last year was your first year of non-cyber school, or were you in some kinda private school before that?
Well, I was in private school from kindergarten to the 2nd grade. Then, I was homeschooled until I was 12. After that I went to cyber school for three years.
Macron's notesAh, alright. Got all of the scholarly bases covered, I see.
I apologize in advance if I am barging into this conversation to change the topic. But I'm curious where everyone is from. I'm from the Pittsburgh region, for example.
Well, I'm not originally from here but I live in Wilkes Barre.
Macron's notesI live in New Kensington!
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkdAt the mention of Wawa...
I don't even know why Subways even *exist* out here. I mean, who is keeping them in business? Speaking as someone who didn't grow up in an area with them, I find Wawas kind of magical.
In which I attempt to be a writer.King of Prussia area here.
Subways is alright, and as a fast food chain it can exist in places where Wawa can't, like in food courts.
What's Wawa?
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkdhaha you're funny daft
good joke
haha
I've heard of it, but like, what's sold there?
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkd...Oh.
It's a local convenience store chain. They sell almost literally every food-based item. Donuts, chips, candy, cat food, hot dogs, soda, juice, milk, hoagies, chicken, pretzels..
Everything
EVERYTHING
So it's like Winco?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI don't know what that is but google says it's a supermarket. Convenience stores are 7-11 type dealies, you know, for convenience.
Oh. I think I've actually been to a Wawa once, then. XD
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkdWinco is a place where you can buy any food item.
More or less.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseThe key word here is convenience store, Bacon. Most supermarkets should be selling all food items. :P
Thread is still on!
