Oh hai Lordof Lore.

Also, we can now talk about, Spooky Mask's topic about geth hoppers, my topic about what exactly happened in the previous ME thread, or my other suggestion, that is 'What do non-humans find so very attractive about asari?'

There were 2 previous Mass Effect 3 threads, both ended up being closed due the the flame wars the game cause.

I'm still here. I just don't post as often because (1) there hasn't really been anything new to ME in quite a while and (2) real life keeps me busy.

I'm still here. Just had nothing worth contributing to the previous discussion.

So um, anyone think Bioware will still utilize save import for ME 4?

Depends on the nature of 4, really.

I can't really talk much about One or two. I never played them as I own the Wii U version of three.

I did watch my brother play 2, so I know some of it.

That final boss, holy fuck!!! And this is why Shepard is the ultimate Bad Ass.

I also remember watching him play through the game the first time, where he got most of his party members killed off horribly.evil grin

I certainly ripped on him for that.

Yeah.

Though outside of not getting Kasumi and Zaeed, it's not so bad.

Though I seem to have accidentally missed the Omega quest as well, even though I got all three gangs backing me as soon as possible.

Omega's DLC and (IIRC) the WiiU version didn't get any DLC.

@VeryMelon: Was there something wrong with the WiiU version beyond the lack of save import and DLC (not to say that either of those aren't problems)?

Not technically, but it's just inferior to getting to whole trilogy in one box set.

Damn, that's just sad. Does EA intend to release the trilogy for next gen?

Note the fact that they released the Trilogy about a week after they released the third game for Wii U, but that's been discussed in other threads.

Anyway, I suppose I'll pop in now and again, but there's not gonna be much for me to say what with being unable to actually talk about the only game in the series that I'm playing.

At least I know why I never got Omega, so thanks.

I wonder if in ten years someone will do actual remake of the trilogy?

I mean, it feels kinda surreal to think about currently released games getting remakes... But it happens to old games all the time, so who knows, maybe in future they will be remaking current best sellers :P

Mass Effect 4 won't revolve around Shepard, so I'm not sure they'll do save imports for it.

Especially since it's almost certain to be on the next-gen consoles, so importing your save from a different console isn't really feasible. Dragon Age Keep is how Bioware is getting around this issue for Inquisition, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Mass Effect do something similar. With 4 being someone else's story in some other part of the universe somewhere, rather than part of the same continuous story, they might even be able to skirt the import issue entirely by just having a few triggers in-game to select anything that matters, similar to that conversation in KOTOR II where you discuss the events of the first game to set parameters.

TEACHER: The geth and quarians waged war for many centuries. Sarah, do you remember what happened to them?

  • The geth won.
  • The quarians won.
  • They made peace.

Exploring the galaxy of Mass Effect without the imminent threat of extinction hanging over your every action (or at least playing a character blissfully ignorant of it) would be nice. It's a great setting and I love (nit)picking at the details.

Idea! wild mass guessME 4 will involve playing the captain/commanding officer of an exploratory spaceship on a rare Council-approved mission beyond a dormant relay.wild mass guess

But that's a story for another time.

I don't really have any interest in further Mass Effect games to be honest. The Reapers no longer being in it is the main reason.Yeah the other stuff is nice but the Reapers were what made the series stand out for me and draw me to it.

I admit, the Reapers didn't quite capture my imagination the way they did a lot of others, mainly because long before Mass Effect came out, I read the Ultimate Galactus Trilogy.

In Marvel's Ultimate Comics reimagining of their classic tales, Gah Lak Tus is, well, this. A gigantic swarm of machines that travel across the universe, exterminating all organic life. In the first part of the trilogy, their presence is first felt when a machine that has been secretly hidden among us for a long time suddenly comes to life, acting as a herald for their arrival.

By the second part of the trilogy, a new alien race crawls out of the woodwork, operating in secret to prevent humanity from escaping or resisting the swarm; an organic race that has become loyal to Gah Lak Tus, working diligently to ensure his work is done. The third finally gives us the Swarm's arrival, and we find out their method of extermination, planting themselves head-first onto the planet's surface and releasing a process that will convert organic beings into deranged techno-zombies, slaughtering their kin until finally they die as well. All hope seems lost until the conception of a technobabble superweapon, but out of nowhere, a terrorist cell that has become psychically influenced into serving the swarm starts making attacks, creating a battle between the military and the Swarm's indoctrinated terrorists over the only hope for defeating the swarm and saving the world.

...so, yeah, basically nothing that happened involving the Reapers surprised me in the second and third game. They were pretty straightforwardly Gah Lak Tus. Everything else - the universe, the characters, the races, the details of how the story played out - were what intrigued me and kept my attention. There were some subtle differences in how the Reapers operated versus Gah Lak Tus - Reapers are preserving organics, Gah Lak Tus despises them, Reapers use mechanical spikes to make Husks, Gah Lak Tus uses a toxin, Reapers indoctrinate people by being on their ship, Gah Lak Tus indoctrinates through silver-skinned Heralds - but they were still the least interesting part of the story just because they were the part of the story I've already read.

My biggest hope for ME4 is that we get to choose our species. Ideally, any species in the series, so I can finally play as an Elcor Vanguard (shame on you, Bioware, for never implementing them in multiplayer), but realistically, a choice between humans, the Council races, and maybe krogan, quarians, and drell would be nice.

Personally, the Reapers never sparked my imagination or made me invested in the story. Eldritch Abominations as a whole have never created any interest in me. To me, they were oversized and overarmed robots with some serious programming issues or a serious stick up their proverbial asses. Most of the time I was hoping the damn guys would get out of the way to let me enjoy the amazing ME universe, but alas, goddamn space Cthulhus (Cthulhi?) kept getting in the way.

I would so enjoy a ME game without "Thou art thee art thou save the entire galaxy DO IT DO IT DO IT!" lingering in the background the entire time.

Eh, I'm tired of common way of thinking that says that RP Gs(whether scifi or fantasy) always require something of Cthulhu, dark god, evil genocidal aliens, zombie virus, etc world ending threat to be interesting. Seriously, Reapers aren't why this series was interesting. I'd be disappointed if new ME games just have new galaxy wide alien threat pop up.

Reapers aren't even that unique enemy really. Otherwise people wouldn't keep calling them space robot Cthulhu tongue

My secret hope for ME 4 is that now that Tali isn't love interest anymore that Quarians become closer to their original interpretation. Because honestly, quarians would be uncanny as frick even with minor changes back to old design. Like if they are same as current version but skin is stark white.

You may hate me for saying this, but maybe a game of a different genre set in the same universe would be nice. It might allow for a much more personal story.

Every better: outsource it to Bethesda. tongue

But yes, after the frigging apocalypse, a more personal story might be in order. Mass Effect: Vignettes, if you will; a sort of more gameplay combination of 3's multiplayer and The Walking Dead: 400 Days, if anyone understands what I'm trying to say here.

In terms of gameplay, I would love to see a Mass Effect game that actually plays and feels a lot like Deus Ex. Like, have something like corporate espionage on Noveria, sneaking, lots of fun combat, such and such. That'd be pretty cool. [lol]

[up] Ew, hell no, I don't want Bugthesda making a Mass Effect game.
