...No. No, they would not.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI only have superficial knowledge of the situation there, but as a rule the more pieces of land outside the CCP influence the better, correct?
More or less.
In East Asia China's immediate concern is its locale, with taking Taiwan being an obsession.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleThe Chinese establishment, to some level, perceives the US and its East/Southeast Asian allies as attempting to contain its strategic reach through a series of military-political alliances. Every island chain they claim in the South China Sea is another step in breaking out of this containment zone.
Regarding Taiwan, there's a level of paranoia that someday the "breakaway province" will formalise its relationship with the US, turning it into a forward base from which the US military can strike at the heart of China's economic centres. That's hardly the only reason why the CCP is pushing a reunification, of course, but it's the one that's most relevant to their expanding outreach to the Pacific.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)And there's a certain political and ideological directive to take over the "province that got away".
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleYeah Taiwan getting annexed by China would be a nightmare. Xi Jinping would fuck them up.
We'd be as "autonomous" as Hong Kong if we're lucky.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI assume the CCP's treatment of Hong Kong in recent years made a lot of people really wary?
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Wildwestpyro would probably be the best source for that since they are from Hong Kong.
But yeah, things have really gotten worse under Xi Jinping. He's really cracking down on, well, fucking everything.

Disgusted, but not surprisedHe’s so power hungry he repealed laws put in place to keep leaders from staying for life, which was in place since Mao. He’s...not going to get any better.
Frankly speaking, yes, and I'm under the impression that the PRC is playing the long game and trying to slowly turn Hong Kong into their own annexed state.
Discussing with the Chinese history professor every day at my college, it appears that Xi's old-style paternal autocrat faction has really taken over. Here we go again, folks.

I mean, was that really a surprise? Everyone knew that's what the CCP was going to do right from the get go. Their "assurances" usually don't mean much, those lying snakes.
And that's an insult to snakes. I know.
Man, M84's signature just keeps being proven right every damn day.
I hold the secrets of the machine. And they keep getting away with it because everyone wants to buy what China's selling.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. Not so much a question of want than requirement. They've so comprehensively supplied the whole world so far with everything except food that a collapse in supply would devastate whole sections of the World Economy. That's pretty much what they're counting on to escape retribution.
I hold the secrets of the machine.Confirmed that major war games like Foal Eagle will be discontinued in South Korea.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleGhosn is released on bail, which is not done always in Japanese law enforcement.
He has restricted access on who he can talk to and what electronic devices he can use until the next trial.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I wonder how long they can keep this going, seems like they really have nothing.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleIf anything, the prosecutors are trying to appeal it.

I'm kind of curious: would the CCP agree with a reunification under Taiwanese rule? Based on recent attitudes, it's very likely a hard no, though....
