Some more explorin'. I reminded myself of a lesson I learned in DS 1: for the first playthrough, there's no such thing as cheesing. Basically, Molotov Cocktails are cheap and turn those asshole werewolves into jerky right quick. Oh, also beat the Executioner, but that was done legit. Went down into the sewers, somehow managed to get like a dozen assorted rats, beasts and zombies on my ass and sprinted the whole way after finding the loot at the end. Found and fought Gascoigne (sp.?), got stuck on one of the graves and died, lovely. So I decided to check the other routes I hadn't yet followed, which led me to the Cleric Beast.

...And didn't leave a great impression. It's not a hard boss, really, just... tedious. Locking onto it is a crapshoot since the camera goes insane, so I just hope my attack's hitboxes and its model collide at some point. Feel like I'm doing no damage, though. Only got a couple levels on me and the Saw Cleaver's charged R2 is barely breaking 100 damage. Think I'll try and get some better weapons somehow, I have some upgrade materials but no clue where or how to use them. And also gonna look for the Saw Spear, range is so damn valuable in these games.

Oh, also saw a gigantic pic and decided to leave it well the fuck alone, because I know when something's likely above my pay grade.

OH!

There IS a mechanic that is never explained in game that you should know.

Serrated weapons do bonus damage to Beast enemies, and Righteous weapons (weapons associated with the Church) do bonus damage against the Church’s enemies (who are mainly concentrated in one area).

Also Fire attacks do extra damage to Beasts, and Lightning damage does more to a certain kind of enemy you'll run into later.

Did a bunch of exploring, some grinding. Mapped out most of the sewers, stopped being freaked out after the first couple tries, and got me a Saw Spear! Shoved it up the Cleric Beast's ass, then went and bought the Kirkhammer (after grinding a bit to meet the Strength requirement) and I'm loving the moveset. Two-handed weapons having an additional attack on L2 is logical, though it took me by surprise a bit, and I love it, it adds a little bit of depth that I've found the combat is in need of. Still not sure what I'll focus my build on, so far I'm neglecting Bloodtinge and Arcane and leveling Strength and Skill more or less equally, mostly I want to be able to try out most if not all of the weapons I found. I love the trick weapons as a concept, and they seem to be pretty well differentiated, which is great in my book.

Oh, and I found that you can cheese the Great Bridge werewolves by aggroing them then sprinting inside the house and poking them through the doorway. Suck it, furries. Now I'm about to fight Gascoigne for real, then I assume that's it for this area.

Bloodtinge and Arcane are both central to more advanced builds and they’re not super helpful on the first play through because you don’t get anything that really uses them for a while.

Yeah for your first run of the game you'll have all you need with a Strength/Skill build.

Kirkhammer...well good luck with Gasdaddy. Personally I don't find him as bad as most say but that's because I figured how to exploit him.

Help me, give me advice on how to beat Father Gascogine, he's one of the reasons (besides chronic procrastination and getting far too many games ) I haven't played this game for a year or so.

Today I Learned the French voice actors of the church beggar also dubbed Chase in House M.D, and that the Vileblood queen is voiced by French Cameron from the same series.

First, welp fuck those are quite the pictures to have in mind, second, Jesus christ the french voice actor world is even smaller than the usual voice actor world. It was certainly weird to listen to the curch beggar's dialogue and go "wait a fucking minute, that's Chase trying his best to sound panicked !"

My advice for gascoigne? Strafe him, most of his attacks can be avoided if you dodge TOWARD it rather than away. This works until the last stage, just throw molotovs at his furry ass and you should be alright.

Edit: A general rule of thumb is that amything that has fur is likely to be weak to fire

Remember what the above user said about cheesing? If you have the axe or whip your attacks can position him in his first phase so that the unbreakable tombstones are between you and him as your attacks should still be able to clip him while being relatively out of reach for his moves(I think he can hit you if his axe is extended but you'll still have the advantage as he'll just hit stone most of the time). If he decides to walk around the tombstones than simply run to the opposite side and he'll usually get stuck again. His first phase isn't hard if you use this trick.

For his 2nd phase you can parry him(he's open to parry a lot despite his spastic aniamtions) and punish or simply attack conservatively after he finishes his leaps and combo swipes. Don't get too greedy if you're doing the later and don't panic roll too much because if he squashes you while rolling that's gonna hurt and likely kill you.

If you're bold enough to explore into the sewer pit (there's a secret path leading from the area just before the werewolves), you can meet an NPC who will give you an item that will help with Gascoigne. His daughter's music box will stun him for a few seconds in his human form.

Also, how are you finding parrying? I had a lot of trouble with it my first playthrough and generally didn't bother, but this time around I upgraded to Ludwig's Rifle and not only does it do a decent chunk of damage at 22 Bloodtinge, it also seems to parry a lot easier - and it can stun even if it doesn't parry. The Hunter's Blunderbuss will also work, though it's slower than the pistol.

[up] Don't overuse the music box though because if you use it too much you'll trigger the third phase early.

Also it just stops affecting him after two or three uses, I think. Probably [up] means basically the same thing.

I asked once in the Souls thread what character would most likely be the series representative in Super Smash Bros. Most said it would be either Artorias or Solaire.

Who would the Bloodborne rep be?

I'd say "You say that like it's a bad thing" for the sake of the witty retort but I hated the byleth discourse so that's not gonna be my line.

But more seriously, we all know the problem wasn't the character they chose, but the franchise it representend. Hunter would be perfectly fine.
