I'm not sure we get an answer to that. She may have been an Adept originally and just got the lightning powers stacked on top of that.

Yes. This. Him being nicer is good, but there needs to be more consequences for his actions and attitude. Mytl doesn’t count because what happens to her in both games is ultimately separate from what he’s doing and would have happened anyway. As it is in the canon timeline, Copen still hasn’t really questioned his actions beyond how it affects her.

It's been over a hundred years since Gunvolt happened. His opinions on things likely changed

It's the "GV 1 Bad Ending" timeline, which is separate from the main one. Copen's growth would be different in each one, so don't confuse Copen from one timeline from the other.

The thing is that any growth for him in this game seems to have happened off-screen, so it comes off as kind of lazy and subpar writing.

I'm largely okay with it. It's meant to clue you in that something is weird. Besides, finding out his sister is an Adept and was kidnapped would undoubtedly make him reevaluate some things, especially considering that he'd be trying to save her.

I don't like that they got rid of the in-stage dialogue. It added a lot of character.

Yeah, just making it optional seems to be the best option.

Weirdly enough, the YMMV is calling that an Author's Saving Throw. Didn't a previous YMMV page called it a Base Breaker or something?

Plus, a differing play style would be interesting. Both Copen and Gunvolt use guns, but Blade's close range style provides an interesting contrast.

So, with the reveal that this game is 100 years in the future in an Alternate Timeline, I wonder what will become of these characters. I don't know if Gunvolt 3 is on the table (I don't know where else he can go from here since he's completely lost Joule, and seems to be done with fighting to save Adepts from Humans or humans from Adepts and is just trying to protect what he has left and live peacefully).

Meanwhile this game shows that we're 100 years too early for Copen to move past his hatred, and that the main timeline is the best possible one for everyone despite all the shit that went down in the second game.

I still like my idea of vengeful humans hunting Copen down to avenge their Adept family members, and Gunvolt being dragged into it because they attack Mytyl to get at Copen and Gunvolt has to protect her.

Also, I stated earlier that I wished Copen was somehow responsible for the situation in iX, as a sort of heavy lesson for his hatred. I've been reminded that Asimov shot Gunvolt and Joule with Copen's gun, so in essence, he is responsible in a roundabout way. It was his weapon that lead to Gunvolt's and Joule's death, which resulted in Mytyl's kidnapping, transformation and 100 years of suffering.

Shame there's no way for iX and mainstream Copen to meet. Maybe that would get him to stop being a prick.

I wonder if we'll finally learn what happened to Zeno and Monica? From what I can tell, Gunvolt never talked to them again, so they don't know exactly what happened to Asimov. That's gonna be an issue.

Well, after finishing the Zero/ZX Collection, I am considering checking out the Gunvolt series, though I will probably wait for a sale.

Will be playing the Switch version.

Gunvolt 3 was just announced. Development only began recently, so the release date is still far ahead.

GV is a Sumeragi agent now.

New sword wielding playable character named Kirin, who apparently replaces Copen and is also with Sumeragi.

And now I'm wondering what happened to Copen too? Did he really just bow out because of the whole debacle with Mytl / Joule?

Sumeragi was in shambles in GV 2. Perhaps this is a few years into the future where the new Sumeragi is better?

Teseo did kind of ruin their reputation and their top brass may or may not have been killed by Zonda.

Plus it's not like the nation really has any defense alternatives. According to the lore Sumeragi was pretty much the only thing keeping rogue adepts in line.

That would make sense. Between Asimov and Quill, and then then Eden, Sumeragi got its ass kicked pretty bad.

This new girl apparently works for Sumeragi, but we'll see if she's an enemy or ally to Gunvolt.

Maybe we'll get some mythology gags towards ix? Like the girl is the main universe ancestor to Kohaku and Blade or something.

With GV working for Sumeragi now, perhaps Zeno's septima will finally be revealed...

You mean as a playable character? Or as a boss (like many Gunvolt DL Cs)?
