I don't think she was actually speaking Spanish. It seemed more like reading Google Translate. But yeah, I'm surprised Matt Mercer was there.

When I first watch the movie's official trailer, i knew the movie was going to be bad due to its weird pacing and acting.

Well, for one the heroine was far more scarred in the book. She basically had half her face smashed in.

[up]Are they moving to another channel? Only thing I can think of.

Mortal Engines is a classic YA adaptation so far up its own ass that it forgets to have things like a plot.

Well, for one the heroine was far more scarred in the book. She basically had half her face smashed in.

Short of CGI or obtrusive prosthetics, this sounds like the sort of thing that's very difficult to properly show in a film adaption.

This IMO isn't a point against the film.

As someone with a disability and who works in a workplace with lots of fellow disabled employees right in the center of LA, it really wouldn’t have been hard for the filmmakers to put in effort and cast a disabled actress.

And they didn’t put in that effort not because it was hard, but because they couldn’t picture themselves caring about a disfigured person.

Christian Rivers: (Director) It’s fine in the book for Hester to be described to be ugly, hideous, and have lost a nose ‘cause, even that, you reimagine it in your own mind as, ‘Okay, yeah, she’s ugly, but she’s not really ugly,' But Tom falls in love with her… and film is a visual medium.

I am extremely skeptical of this, I don't see how it could be plausible for them to find a talented actress who also happens to be disfigured in that specific way.

Their given reason is absolutely horrendous but that doesn't mean your idea is reasonable.

The specifics possibly not, but a 60% effort is still better than zero. Someone with just one of the impediments canon to Hester would’ve gone a longer way to representing disabled viewers than just drawing one scar and calling it a day.

You know, they could even have tried harder with the prosthetic instead of just one tiny scar.
