I am aware plenty of shows already do this, but 3 seasons ahead does strike me as being very confidant of continual renewal

Here’s the thing: it’s a hard show to make. They say it takes like 2 weeks to animate 30 seconds of it, I think, and Harmon’s a perfectionist when it comes to these things. Doing the writing in advance makes logical sense.

Animation is typically a year or more ahead of the airdate of the episode, as I understand it. Animation takes a long time, hence the Animation Lead Time trope.

But they already did in the Story Train episode.

As they should. They’re not South Park. South Park makes their shows in 6 days while R&M takes up to 2 years. And while I love SP, that’s a curse as it is a blessing as some of their episodes date very much because of that process. Plus, R&M has a different voice and satire than SP does. Much more liberal and less reactionary. They should be their own thing.

Rick and Morty doesn't rely on being relevant. It aims to be well written and timeless.

Yeah, Rick and Morty's very timeless in how it tackles its stuff. For the most part. Vindicators 3...

Oh yeah Vindicators' is an episode that may be among the worst in the series, it's essentially an even more Shallow Parody of superheroes than even the original The Boys comic book

Yeah its a very specific parody compared to the heist or Mad Max episodes which parody the more general genres of heist and post-apocalyptic fiction.

The funny thing is that the Vindicators weren't even wrong about Rick being hard to work with. Heck, in that episode bringing him along is what gets most of them killed.

Disgusted, but not surprised

[up][up] Chances are had they actually brought Rick to help then, he would have bumbled and caused something even worse to happen.
