[up]Hey, I'm fond of Starlight Glimmer too. She may be one of the best villains, if not the best, in My Little Pony.

I really do want to see that Starlight Glimmer prequel story where she finds all of her cultists before they became cultists and convinces them to let Glimmer wipe away their Cutie Marks and move to the commune in nowhere.

I enjoyed Cult Leader Glimmer and I like Recovering Bad Guy Glimmer, but the transition between these two was really disappointing and I understand a lot of people couldn't shake that off.

Starlight Glimmaglam, the owner of the Glimmesglale Glimmaglam, was good in Season 5. Then she sucked in Season 6, and then got good in Season 7. Josh Haber didn't seem to know how to handle her, so be basically tried to make her interesting by introducing Sunburst, but then spent most of his time building up Sunburst but leaving Glimmaglam to rot on the sidelines.

[up][up][up] You like her now. But there are many people who liked Cutie Map!Starlight only to dislike her from then on.

It's a weird life constantly being afraid of how everyone sees a character you like.

[up]I will say I never quite got this. Even in something like Uncommon Bond, Sunburst's ability to get on with everyone is a plot device to make Starlight worry that her oldest relationship was eroding in front of her.

[up]Hey, who knows. I may end up being fond of her afterwards. I haven't gotten to that point yet.

Man, this season will be fun. It has so much to converse about: Amending Fences, the Cutie Map, Starlight Glimmer...

By the by, today will be Castle Sweet Castle.

Edit: Now, I'm curious. What is everybody's opinion about what is the most contentious season?

Has anyone else noticed that no one has even so much as mentioned the Map this season? Or the Doom Fortress, for that matter. I wonder what will happen to that now.

I think either season 2 or season 3 were the most contentious, because everyone drama prone left afterwards.

[up]Plus those seasons were the height of "Brony-Mania". Even with some of the more dramatic retools in later seasons, the fandoms simmered down these days and some people have moved to other shows or only watch passively now.

Concerning Starlight, I agree on the notion that her current personality is likeable, but the show's slapdash approached to "reformed villains" makes for a horrible transition. The show isn't that great for making a character remotely sympathetic as a villain, they're often one note dog kickers or psychopaths until that very key moment their Heel–Face Turn starts. This was the extremity for Starlight, they could have made her a more desperate character to set up her turning good but instead forgo all that to make one dimensionally spiteful and nuts straight before she reforms, ruining the transition even more.

Even before that, the Cutie Map's Starlight felt too unhinged and tautological to really transition into the current Adorkable but otherwise lucid Starlight, her reaction to her followers turning on her felt more like just wrathful anger at being contradicted, not hurt or insecurity you'd expect from her now. I think there should have been a far more slow and subtle transition to her revealing her human side. Maybe she befriended Trixie after leaving and she having a genuine friend lowered her shield and brought out her nicer qualities.

Yeah, I feel like most of the rabble-rousers left with the long cavalcade of "End of the fandom!"s that happened from late 2011 to early 2013. From Faust leaving, to Derpygate, to Cadance and the end of Faust canon, to 65-episode syndication, to Twilicorn's announcement, to the Fighting is Magic CND, to Magical Mystery Cure's actual airing, to Equestria Squirrels...

I do not miss that part of those days.

So, I finished Castle Sweet Castle and Bloom and Gloom today.

Castle Sweet Castle was pretty good while Bloom and Gloom...it touches upon the fear of being trapped in a life that you do not want or that everybody would disapprove with the life you choose which is a good thing to converse about with children, I haven't made up my mind about it yet. Still, I'm not in the redux of the Season Four beginning slog so there's that.

For tomorrow, it's Tanks for the Memories.

Eight stories until Amending Fences.

I been hearing that Season 8 was "the worst season ever". I wouldn't go that far. It wasn't horrible, but it was meh. the idea of an actual school where the Mane 6 are teachers is just a bad idea, and the new writers often forget some details of what happened before.

[up]While it wasn't horribly done, you could tell it was the usual 'late era retool' that many series undergo when they're on their last one or two seasons. MLP was consistently altering and having continuity changes, so it wasn't as blatant or desperate looking as with some other shows, but it definitely looked like the "we're out of ideas, change the formula and cast" approach.

I agree it wasn't the worst thing ever, but it was not very well executed, either. It was clear that the writers were not really prepared to commit to the school fully.

I mean, it apparently wasn't the writers's idea. Hasbro wanted to sell the school so they had to write about it.

I have to wonder what they were going to write about before Hasbro came in.

A lot of it was probably basically the same ideas minus the Students. Which really shows, as the Students regularly play second fiddle to the main cast in season 8.

The school was a crutch. A ton of characters tied their Season 8 stories to the school where they would otherwise have no interest in it. It's like the writers ran out of new stories to use with the characters using the elements they introduced before.

[up][up]Boom. There we go. Now everything makes sense.
