Hey Kegisak, was I right about the tu/vous thing between Evangelyn and Amalia in episode 2?
I wish there were French subtitles so I could tell for sure what they're saying.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI think the reason that they translated it is to try to maintain the connotations. "Sadlygrove" at least brings to mind certain imagery for English speakers, whereas "Tristepin" doesn't really mean a whole lot outside of sounding vaguely foreign.
In other news the last episode of Mythbusters aired tonight. I'm sort of depressed now, because I've been watching that show for so long.
@Yami: The joke is that his name does not suit him at all. He's very much Hot-Blooded.

Reaction Image RepositorySpeaking of Wakfu: Qilby just went freaking insane. If I have this right, all of the knowledge from his past lives drove him to want to return to the Eliatropes' home planet and he's willing to destroy the world to do it. He may just be more delusional than Nox right now. That fight with Adamai was beautiful though, especially when Qilby started to get serious. This whole thing is going to blow up in everyone's face considering how both Rushu and Qilby will end up betraying each other and Phaerys is likely stronger than they're expecting. Not to mention how the main cast is headed in that direction too.
Also, Adamai might be dead. I'm not sure.

This song needs more love.Wait, that show was still going? I thought it ended a long time ago.
The last episode of Mythbusters aired tonight. But not on discovery channel +canada. Grrr...
Rest In Peace Mythbusters. You will be sorely missed.

Um, I'm pretty sure it did air on Discovery. I watched it. The only one that isn't on that channel is a "Lost episode" that's going to air on the Science Channel tomorrow. Also, Discovery is re-running the first episode right after the finale and it is incredibly surreal to watch it. It's so different from the later episodes.
@Seraphem: Yeah, it was still going, though with way longer gaps between seasons.

Reaction Image RepositoryIs discovery channel different in the US?
I wouldn't know.
Apropos of nothing, one of the few downsides of animation is the knowledge that even in a feature-length movie FIM is unlikely to get a Goodfellas/Donnie Darko-style, musically-set Oner.
Good night.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty. You could do MLP in one shot. They demonstrated the necessary technology. It is mostly by convention that they use almost 100% stills.
It would actually be cheaper than the live action version.
I don't know if the channels are different in different countries. They're rerunning the finale right now, if you want to check. All I'll say is that Buster got retired in what is probably the most hilariously appropriate method possible.
Yeah, you definitely could pull a Oner in an MLP movie, the question is whether they'd go to the trouble to set up a shot as one.

Reaction Image RepositoryThey blew him up, didn't they? XD
Oh, they are totally gonna start the movie with an Epic Tracking Shot.

They dressed him as a super hero, and attached him to a rocket sled, which they proceed to shoot into a wall at 800 miles per hour. It looks like he was vaporized upon impact, but I'm pretty sure what actually happened is that he ascended to Valhalla, because that is a straight up Viking Funeral right there.
Anyway, I should be getting to bed.

Reaction Image RepositoryAh, like the rocket-car. Okay.
"Sadlygrove" at least brings to mind certain imagery for English speakers, whereas "Tristepin" doesn't really mean a whole lot outside of sounding vaguely foreign.
But if they wanted to keep the same sense, why did they also reverse the name? His French name is Tristepin de Percedal (Tristepin of Percedal) while the English version is Percedal of Sadlygrove. In addition to translating it, they also flipped it.
Also, looks like I'm not the only one confused
As far as Mythbusters goes, I wish I could watch On n'est pas des Cobays, the French equivalent of Mythbusters. I found some clips on Youtube, but I don't think the actual show is available outside France.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAs far as I can tell, "On n'est pas que des Cobayes" broadcasts mainly on France 5 which is french public access. They appear to stream their own shows on their website, which is unsurprising for public access, but they block Canadian IPs. I think this is one of the channels that are not rebroadcast in Canada. The page for On n'est pas que des Cobayes says that they rebroadcast on France 4 (great) and also on a channel in Portugal.
Edit: Found it on TV5 in Canada.

@Story, RE: Vous: Vous is used in most formal... er... forms, in french. English doesn't have any real way of denoting levels of familiarity without tacking on additional words, but French can denote familiarity vs. formality by way of their pronouns. In this case, "Tu" is the basic form of "You, singular". "Vous" is the basic form of "You, group", which is then used as "You, anonymous".
For example, if I were to ask a friend how they were doing, I would ask, "Comment vas-tu". If, however, I wanted to ask a stranger or superior, I would ask, "Comment allez-vous?".
Basically, Evangelyne's use of 'vous' in place of 'tu' is an expression of formality and 'respect', although in the early season it's more of a veiled way of saying "I don't actually like you, I'm looking after you because it's my job".
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Well, English used to have a way to denote formality. "Thou" was informal, while "you" was formal (or for addressing more than one person).
Just saw the trailer for the new Ghostbusters movie..... This is what happens when a sequel/now reboot spends 3 decades in development hell. It looks absolutely fucking awful. Didn't even crack a smile once at it, let alone laugh at any of the jokes.
I only ever saw the first movie as a kid and wasn't that big on it, but man I can really sympathize with the fans who are pissed at this. Waiting 3 decades for a new Ghostbusters movie and THIS is what they get. That's like spending your whole life trying to find the Fountain of Youth, and then when you do find it all you get is decade's-old beer and a message saying that you wasted your time.
Not to mention that I don't get the point of this movie. A R63 remake/reboot/whatever of Ghostbusters? Why is that a thing? It just seems so random to me.

I'll put in the obvious before the more aggressive and/or cynical about it: They used an all-female cast because they were trying to cash in on socially progressive interests. People wanted more female characters, so they took it as an easy route to generate interest.
It worked, although frankly all it's going to mean is that word about it being shit is going to get out that much faster.
We just have to make sure the conversation about it includes why it's shit, so Hollywood hopefully doesn't take the wrong message.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I have nothing against stuff with female characters. Heck 4 of my favorite shows have female protagonists in them, and ever since I originally got into ponies I've been wanting to see more stuff with female main characters. But "Generic crappy comedy with the Ghostbusters name and bad actors" is not the way to go about it.

I quite agree, myself. I actually sat down and had a think about this, the other day, and the conclusion that I came to is that, yes, sadly, asking for more female characters, and better representation in general, is going to lead to some shit stuff that's riding on representation, without bothering to make it any good. However, it's also going to lead to some very good writers deciding to give it a try, and making very good characters.
Bad Writers gonna Write Bad, and Good Writers Gonna Write Good, and as long as the idea is in people's heads we will be seeing better representation, and it will only continue to get better. But, there is a contingent to this: We have to recognize hollow representation in shitty media, and call it as such. Or at least call the movies shitty and let them drift from public memory, like Twilight or The Monkees.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Yeah my friends and I have seen that trailer and most of us walked away unimpressed. I'm just expecting another Fantastic Four with more vomit at this point.
I must admit, having the entire cast replaced by women when the originals weren't like that did set off some warnings when I first heard what they were doing. I am all for women taking lead roles and such (eg Rey from Star Wars, Mane 6 from MLP etc), but this one just made me cautious for some reason

Still haven't seen this show, so the name Sadlygrove made me think of The Eeyore, which I take it he's not.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.
