Basically, the CMC's result was the result of 5 seasons' of character development that happened. DT's was the result of 5 seasons' of character development that didn't.

Like, I don't mind, that fire kept me warm, but I'm surprised they brought out all those special yuletide logs all at once and just burned those suckers in one go.

Problem is that pony is episodic enough that there's not really any foreshadowing or planning that goes into anything outside of a previous episode. A lot of people claiming call backs and deep foreshadowing and characterization are looking into it a bit much. Season one barely had any continuity.

Which isn't at all a bad thing.

True, but the last few seasons at least have ramped up on continuity. The yak episode called back to the breathing exercises from season 3. Amending Fences was nothing bt call backs to the very first episode. It's still episodic, but they are clearly more comfortable with their own history.

Of course, that admittedly doesn't extend to Tiara's writing, but it works for me, so whatever. tongue

Funnily enough, someone pointed out that the leaked S5 Halloween episode, which was made earlier on in the production order but meant to air on Halloween, had the CM Cs in full body costumes, which seems to indicate that they knew the order would be screwed up in some way and they were covering their bases.

Post of the Day #1243

And how was showing up as an anonymous hero supposed to do anything except make her feel threatened?

I really don't understand how people can justify what the Mane Six did. IT'S A TERRIBLE PLAN, and really should have ended in disaster if it weren't for the fact that RD had more faith in her friends then apparently they did (it really makes their whole plan seem unnecessary and mean-spirited).

If that is true the episode doesn't do a very good job of establishing it. To be honest the way they came across was kind of petty at least to me.

I missed the episode since I was at Comic Con yesterday so I just watched it right now.

I do agree that it's kinda hard to buy Diamond Tiara Freudian Excuse after 4.5 seasons. While there are several antagonists who made a Heel–Face Turn that was hard to accept, their antagonism was mostly centered on one or two episodes, thus making a little easier to accept their change in later appearances. Sunset Shimmer in the first Equestria Girls movie was so intolerable and her reformation didn't click, but it was thankfully only in that movie. By Rainbow Rocks, she's far more tolerable and a lot is done to have us ease into her change. Discord was infamous for his antics in the season 2 opener, but it was again only in that opener. By the time he reappears Season 3, while still not the nicest draconequus ever has mellowed considerably since his debut. With Diamond Tiara, we had to suffer through practically five years of her crap with little to show beyond her Alpha Bitch personality (Family Appreciation Day was the only time we saw a little something beyond her usual personality). She built up a lot of karma since her debut and if they wanted to redeem they needed to show at least some cracks in her usual facade leading up to it or have one really big episode, possibly a two-parter since Sunset Shimmer also had the advantage of having an entire movie to allow her to reformnote . Or at least episode prior to it, which I almost feel there was. Silver Spoon was acting far more nicer than usual too and I feel like there was originally an episode with the CMC helping her. Maybe an episode that has the CMC convince Silver Spoon that Diamond Tiara isn't always right and by the end, Silver Spoon agrees but simply chooses to side with Diamond Tiara because she still sees her as a friend. This episode would have been the final straw for Silver Spoon. Besides, I felt that the CMC needed three episodes to make this arc work.

And yet...I'm not as bothered as I thought I would be with Diamond Tiara's Heel–Face Turn. I mean, yes, I have problems with it but...I don't know. Maybe it's because Diamond Tiara, for once, I can see an episode with Diamond Tiara and not grit my teeth. Even in the beginning while she was still a brat, she was still far more entertaining in those first five minutes or so than she was throughout the last several seasons. Or maybe a certain principal from a certain movie set my standards so low that I could literally accept anything at this point. Either way, I was on board with Diamond Tiara for this episode.

And yes, they finally got their Cutie Marks! While I do agree they aren't the most aesthetically pleasing Cutie Marks (I don't know if it's because I'm so used to them without Cutie Marks, but they really don't look natural on them), it does make sense why they have them. They work together to help others find their Cutie Marks, so naturally the shield with all three color represents that and the shield is already part of their Crusader cloak emblem.

All in all, it had the same problems that Magical Mystery Cure, but ultimately, I liked it. The lack of the same drama that still plagues MMC to this day helps.

I actually remember that they helped Troubleshoes find the true meaning of his cutie mark earlier in the season, so it's not completely without foreshadowing for their cutie marks.

Diamond Tiara, however, definitely came in a Deus ex Machina sort of thing.

Jerry Peet isn't ever covering this long-awaited episode because "she's bored of CMC episodes". .... considering she doesn't even KNOW how important an episode this is because it just starts off like a typical CMC episode instead, I admire her for sticking by what she wants to do instead of going by the social norms.... but man is she controversial!

Family Appreciation Day was the only time we saw a little something beyond her usual personality

I'd argue that she seemed a bit different in Flight to the Finish and Twilight Time as well.

In Flight To The Finish, she's legitimately worried about the CMC beating her, so she has to resort to dirty tricks to keep them out. She isn't just bullying them for the heck of it, but because she's insecure and really doesn't want to lose.

In Twilight Time, she starts sucking up to the CMC as soon as she realizes that they can increase her social status.

[up][up] You mean a pretentious, hypocritical, loud mouthed, asshole?

The only reason I ever watch her stuff anymore, is simply to laugh my as of at how inept she is any kind of 'analysis'.

[up][up][up][up]I do agree with that, but I think it needed an episode in between to sort of bridge it. Troubleshoes' episode would be the first part in their path to their cutie marks. The second episode would be the second part with them noticing realizing that they have found something special within, but can't quite figure it out yet (And if it was Silver Spoon and written right, it would help lead into the following episode). Diamond Tiara's episode would be the moment of realization when they learn what they truly are capable of and earn their Cutie Marks. Without a second episode, it would feel like something is missing and that's really what I feel. Another episode was missing in between the two.

I'm guessing you mean the omnibus? I've been waiting for that to come out since I've decided to stick with those.

While I stopped hating Diamond Tiara a long time ago and only disliked her (because I've gotten over the bullying that happened to me), I think a good aesop of this lesson was for Diamond Tiara to be herself so that everybody can like and respect her, and for her mother to raise Diamond Tiara to look down on people was bad parenting.

While I'm happy that the Crusaders got their cutie marks, I wish that they got cutie Marks that resembled their talents. Apple Bloom is good at construction, Sweetie Belle is good at singing, while Scootaloo is good at skateboarding.
