The TroperWall namespace and wick counts

Two questions about the recently-created Troper Wall namespace (which was created to allow for "friendly vandalism" after editing the contributor pages became restricted to the "owner" of the page and the mods):

First, could it or should it be programmed so that wicks on Troper Wall pages don't add to wick counts for the works and tropes being linked to (as is true of the contributor pages)?

Second, if it shouldn't, are the pages subject to the same wick guidelines as the rest of the non-archived wiki (eg, links to works should go in their proper namespaces, no linking to members of the Permanent Red Link Club, etc.)?

If Troper Walls are subjected to wick standards which my conventional contributor page is not, then what's the point of moving old vandalism from a page that was mostly private, "off"-wiki, and didn't attract people people from "related to" pages who'd be willing to mess around with what other people wrote for me (repeat, for ME) if they took objection to use of an outdated trope name/misused term/changed redirect/etc. to a new location that must be monitored just like examples lists? I could just keep it all where it was.

Also, every blue Pot Hole on a Troper Wall is essentially a free wick and makes Entry Pimping very, very easy. One could theoretically take the latest YKTTW launch and leave a pothole on any and every wall and rack up dozens of wicks without even using the Pot Hole properly once. This should not be allowed to happen, no different than how it can't be done on the actual contributor pages.

I agree with making wicks in that namespace not appear in Related to... lists.

Also, I would like to have an indexing mechanism for these pages.

We've been talking about this and it's a lot of effort to go to for something that's essentially a social media function. That's not what we are about. We've had to restrict troper page editing to their owners and disable the discussion pages because of repeated actual vandalism, not just the cutesy "vandalism" that people like to do for fun.

At some point we have to make a decision whether we are going to accommodate the desire for people to engage in this kind of notionally entertaining, but essentially useless behavior. For example, when the new page creation tool comes out, we are not going to have Troper Wall as one of the types.

It's possible that we can come up with a technical solution that will allow troper pages to retain a "social media" feel without allowing wanton vandalism, but it's hard to see what form that could take.

Owner controlled approval of edit changes would work in a technical regard.

Or on that note, we have a PM system, just send the desired edit to the person whose page you want to vandalize and let them do the actual edit.

Hell, we could make a Yack Fest topic for it.

Honestly, it's not a big deal. And atleast you can block abusive PM's(and report 'em). It's a lot easier than dealing with cheap vandalism.

@post 4: Unrelated, but you're making a new page creation tool? You should make an optional edit locker; you can make it so you are forced to preview edits.

Oh, I see this point has already been raised here. I was going to do so after Sean brought it to my attention.

I kinda don't see a point in Troper Wall: if it's open, then it's all the same bait for actual vandalism as the normal Troper page - pouring insults onto it will be nearly the same as doing it to old open personal pages.

Any potential system to prevent vandalism for Wall would be simply better used on just the normal Troper pages instead of going to monkey around with separate namespaces.

Has there been any vandalism yet, there?

Thought so. It's a lot less visible than troper pages, after all.
