Your article was lovely. I wish I loved the movie the way you do. I do see why you like it, even if I dont myself. But that "OUR MOVIE WUZ BETTER THAN BAMBI" lowered my already very low opinion of The Lion King and its crew. I already hated Brenda Chapman for going "WELL OUR VERSION OF THE LITTLE MERMAID WUZ BETTER" I cant stand that kind of arrogance. I do like The Little Mermaid from Disney but even that too I disliked for a while.

Oh, I actually don't love those movies, not the way you most likely mean. I more appreciate them. I doubt that either of them would make it into my top ten of favourite Disney movies if I would go on "yeah, I love that" alone.

And Im glad for that. LOL.

So interested in knowing whether this story has any basis on reality ._. Edit: I guess not considering that tweet, but I guess its pretty good story either way

I don't generally trust stuff from someone who knew someone who knew someone who worked on the film. If it was the guy who worked on the film - that's a different matter.

I wish Disney had a show like Toon Heads for their classic shorts. They have so many shorts and most are perfectly watchable for modern day kids. They ought to do something with them besides haphazardly putting them on dvds.

Gigantic is coming out so slowly. I've been following it for, what, 5 years now? People on a Disney forum I lurk are always complaining about it, but then again they tend to hate anything CGI.

Back when the Disney Channel had Vault Disney late at night, they had The Ink and Paint Club, which was a showcase for the classics much like Toonheads. They got rid of it with Vault Disney, sad to say, and I believe it was about then that they got rid of the classics on Toon Disney as well...

I thought so. The fact that people are believing it says much about how gullible a lot of people are. But, then again, people believed that Black Diamond shit as well...

Black Diamond?

About a year ago there was a story spreading about how Disney VHS tapes with a black diamond on the spine (that said "The Classics") were very rare and worth a lot of money, and gave an example of a Beauty And The Beast VHS that sold for $20,000 on eBay.

I have no idea how many people bought into it but none of it's true at all. The Black Diamond tapes aren't rare - I once went into a thrift store and saw no less than 8 of them, among 4 or 5 shelves of Disney clamshells from the 90s.

(As for that Beauty And The Beast VHS, one site pointed out that that was an anomaly. There were other eBay auctions for Disney tapes at that level, but none of them were selling; it was the cheap ones that sold...)

Gigantic has been shelved.

It's sad. It joins the other Disney films that have been cancelled. I do wonder what they will have planned for 2020.

Huh, that DVD case in Zootopia will probably be an item of trivia in the future.

It would really be interesting to know what exactly didn't work out in developing the movie, wouldn't it?

But, then again, never say never. They'll probably come back to it in a few years.

(I can't help but wonder whether they thought that, given that I can only assume it would follow in the footsteps of Frozen, it would probably come off as a kind of anachronism in 2020. I recall it was supposed to be out in 2018 last year.)

Dang, that's a bummer, but I totally understand why they had to shelve it. Still sad to see it put on hold for now, though.

I hope the idea is revisited later. It was interesting. (And I kind of wanted to see that song we heard about earlier in the movie. The mental image I had of the bookmark part was hilarious.)

Though with Gigantic being shelved, it does add a huge genius bonus for those familiar with the seedy realm of bootleg DVDs.

He means the animal parody Disney movies glimpsed as bootleg DV Ds in Zootopia. Now that Gigantic has been shelved, the reference to Gigantic in that scene will be really obscure for future viewers.

Yet another reason for why I feel Zootopia is destined to be something of an Unintentional Period Piece. References like that tend not to stay current for very long.

I still want Disney to do Baba Yaga, which they shelved in the mid-90's. Probably never see it, though.
