We already have such a shorter message, last I checked.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWe do? I haven't created a new account in a long time and I'm not sure I could create a new one again without finding a new location with a unique ISP, so I couldn't create a new account just to test and see what happens.
It was approved early in 2012. It's much shorter.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, I guess it was such a great idea that someone already came up with it.
Doing a search, I see this thread.

Okay, so I just created a new account, sent a PM with said account, created a new sandbox page and edited it, and then put the page on the cutlist.
All without an automated message.
Are we sure that is still working correctly?
We mods compiled a PM for new users in our last meeting, but we never got around to installing it.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWhat is the text of that message proposal?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
In another thread, a user mentioned the possibility of created an automated message to go out to all new accounts.
I think an automated "Welcome To TV Tropes" that gives a _basic_ summary of the top 10 rules or so for editing and creating new pages as well as a links to the Administrivia pages that give further rules about how we do things.
I know we already have a Welcome To TV Tropes page, but It is rather large and I'm wondering how many people look there and actually read all the related pages. A short message that lists some of the most frequent mistakes we see newbies make and encourages them to look at our various guidelines might get some better results.
Below are are are some suggestions for the types of things we might include. The mods and admins might have some better ideas about what should be on the "Top 10", but I think we should be careful not to make it _too_ long.
