The one thing I liked about the Turbo movie was that it largely subverted the "I Know You Are in There Somewhere" Fight. Both Kimberly and Jason needed to be unbrainwashed magically rather than just breaking the spell through force of will. They showed very brief signs of fighting it, but Kimberly seemed to enjoy being evil while Jason was venting anger issues.

Supposedly the Turbo movie had upwards of 3 hours of material they filmed, but it was parsed down to the 90 minutes. I doubt that would have fixed the movie, as much of it sounds like added lore building instead of more story. The idea they were supposed to fight and be beaten as Zeo Rangers is the more interesting thing, as bare minimum that would fix some continuity problems and even pacing issues.

So, do you think Tommy finds beating up evil clones therapeutic?

[up]I'd imagine so. He's been doing it since Season 1 after all. tongue

Ok, who let Light Yagami in here?

My guess is that many bombs dropping in the same spot caused a bigger explosion than normal. Like a chain reaction of sorts. It's slapstick, but they were confirmed bombs from the start. The ending felt underwhelming though. I was expecting a Megazord fight, at least. though at least they did the full Go Go Power Rangers theme during the fight against Madama Odius, so I'll give it that.

Maybe I can find that song properly on Youtube at some point?

Origin of the Psycho Rangers.

Surprisingly, they use the Supersonic Rangers, aka Fiveman.

IIRC, the 1969 MMPR beat him, at the cost of most of their members.

Yep. He tried freeing Rita earlier, and all but two of the 60s team died stopping him.

Okay, I just saw the Christmas special. Turns out Victor and Monty didn't blow the ship to pieces. Also, Sledge is back after all. I thought they may have just forgot he existed after the season premiere, but here he is.

Also, the ending is stone cold.

So apparently there's a comic that shows how Tommy and Kat get together once and for all and explains what happened to Lokar and Scorpina. How about that.

This really does seem to be the Age of Resolving Dropped Plots from Nostalgic Series, eh? Samurai Jack, Hey Arnold, 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo...

Yeah, Soul of The Dragon. Some preview pages in this article.

I'm not a massive Tommy fan but I'll probably read it because the comics do some pretty interesting stuff with the MM team.

There's some other characters from the early series that just up and vanished too - Baboo, Rito, Gasket and Archerina. The latter three I know the cause was their suits being accidentally destroyed in Japan between the Zeo finale and Space premiere, but whatever became of Baboo?

Wasn't he hanging in the RV on the moon with Rita and Zedd? And just Baboo? Wasn't he attached at the hip to Squat? I don't recall them ever NOT being together.

Squat comes back in Space, sans Baboo for no apparent reason.

Has a reason ever been given why the Dairanger suits and main villains (save one who was demoted to a Monster of the Week) were never adapted, but the Zords and monsters were?

It was briefly considered, and the original intention was to do a one year/one team format like Sentai, but Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was such a gargantuan hit that it was considered risky to do a complete clean slate. You don't want to change something that was clearly working, as there was no guarantee of another lightning in a bottle. It wasn't until rotating zords and actors after several seasons, along with moderate ratings drop, that it was considered a reasonable financial decision. Audiences were not as attached to those specific actors, costumes and zords.

I don’t mind them not using the suits for the main Ranger team, but I think that they definitely should have used them for the Dark Rangers that Zedd made. Instead of those.... things.

[up]I never considered that idea. Then again, it would have been odd that Tommy's White Ranger suit looked similar to the ones worn by Zedd's evil ranger team.

I've been curious for some time why the Power Weapons seemed to vanish after the Power Transfer in MMPR season 2. Seems like I got my answer

We were able to use some of the footage they sent, but had to discard some as well whenever the censors thought the use of weapons or something should be taken out. The rules about this changed from show to show depending on how the censor felt after viewing a rough-cut of an episode

Re-watching Fighting Spirit and there's something I feel is a bit... off about the MMPR White Ranger fight.

Firstly, the grayish tint used for the scene is pretty ominous. Way more ominous than what is used for the Zeo Ranger and MMPR Green scenes. There's the way the MMPR White calls out Tommy's name in a mocking, creepy fashion and the creepy laugh that is heard just before he appears in front of Tommy. Pretty much everything about this scene is building a sense of dread before the fight begins.

My point is, I feel that this is how the fight before the Green Ranger battle should have been built up to with the audience and Tommy feeling creeped out by the noises and environment before the Green Ranger appears. Instead, the Green Ranger's appearance is just underwhelming and the White Ranger scene has an atmosphere that feels inappropriate.

Furthermore, the White Ranger's characterization is odd. In addition to the aforementioned laugh, there's the mocking of Tommy which seems ooc for how Tommy acted as White Ranger. Again, this would have made more sense for Green.

I don't know if any of you are familiar with We Bare Bears, but they just put out an episode called "Imaginary Friend" that's a total Power Ranger homage. Briefly: The three bears, as children, pretend they're a Serial Numbers Filed Off Power Rangers team, but there are only three of them, so they imagine a fourth member for their team, Silver Bear. Silver Bear is voiced by Jason David Frank. You can tell it's him because whenever he throws a punch or kick he does that famous kiai of his. Also, the music sounds like a Ron Wasserman score at more than one point. I'd recommend taking a look at this episode if you can find it.
