[up][up]The term Zord began in Power Rangers and wouldn't be used in Super Sentai until Go-Busters/Beast Morphers.

Wait, Zord got backported into Super Sentai? In what context exactly?

Actually the term is used in Timeranger for one of the giant robots the time bureau made and lost in time, the G-Zord. In Time Force it`s one of Frax` mech

In Go-Buster the individual mechs are called Megazords. Go-Buster also uses "It's morphin time" as a transformation call.

In Sentai, do the team's big robots get a different name every season or something?

KRider Since: Feb, 2021
#6430: Apr 9th 2024 at 9:15:10 AM

[up]Yes though they often end in Robo like Super Live Robo for Liveman and Bio Robo for Bioman.

[up] Yeah, exactly that. Ever "Megazord" has an unique name in Super Sentai. The first Megazord is named Dai Zyujin and is a deity that the Zyuranger look up to and depend upon.

Another common word attached to Super Sentai Giant Robots is -Oh (king in Nihongo) like KishiryuOh for Ryusoulger/Dino Fury, Gokai-Oh for Gokaiger/Super Megaforce and ToQ-Oh for Toqger.

Besides Daizyuzin, the syllable -zin or -jin would be used by others like DaiDenzin for Denziman, Senpuujin for Hurricanger/Ninjastorm and Shurikenjin for Ninninjer/Ninja Steel.

-jin was used as a suffix for Sentai necks huh? Interesting

Particularly funny is the recent King-Ohger which yes, essentially means king-king, or more generously "king of kings". In-universe that's the robot's name first and foremost, with the team being named after it.

Some mecha also just straight up use the English word "king", like Flash King, GaoKing, MagiKing, ZyuohKing.

The other part is that some of the mecha have longer full names, being either a "gattai" if they combine or "henkei" if they transform, though that's a very literal description.

"Megazord" was also used in the Gokaiger-Go-Busters crossover movie, where they had a special kind of ranger keys representing previous teams' mecha which were called "megazord keys".

To take it back a bit, the individual components (zords) tend to have a different name each series; King-Ohger has Shugods, Donbrothers has Robotaro, Kiramaizin has Mashins, Ryusoulger has Kishiryu, etc. Lupinranger Vs Patranger went particularly wild with it, as the Lupinrangers had Dial Fighters, the Patrangers had Trigger Machines, the Sixth Ranger had X Trains, and there were a few other ones called Strikers. Oh, and also a gun that turned into a mecha, that too.

Two recent fan-made songs I thought I'd share.

The first is Power Rangers Fusion Drive, which doesn't seem to be based on any particular Sentai series. The second is Power Rangers Insectilords, which is obviously one for King-Ohger.

BOOM are hinting that things will 'change forever' after the current arc in MMPR, speculation is we're about to enter phase III which might bring in the Ninja powers. Also Melissa Flores has been tapped to write Oni Press' new Biker Mice From Mars book. That doesn't necessarily mean she'll be leaving the book but I figured it was worth bringing up just in case.

I can't even imagine what a hypothetical PR adaptation of King-Ohger would be like, it was weird enough as a Sentai show. A straight adaptation would probably be out of the question.

I'm not up-to-date with the current MMPR comics, but I felt like the phase 2 stuff was a nice change-up (sticking to one season for a long run of comics risks things getting stale, although their more radical divergences from canon also helped prevent that), so another change-up could be good. I always found the ninja powers a bit boring to be honest, but I'm sure they can think of more interesting ways to use them.

I think Boom Boomer or whatever is a "Here Power Rangers, here is an easy season to adapt". I know by now Power Rangers is probably done as a tv show though.

I persist that if they wanted to adapt another season, Kiramager would work fairly well, but yeah, Boonboomger would too. Vehicles are an easy theme I suppose

[up] OH YES. I saw Kiramager and I loved it. It looks awesome and I am so sad Power Rangers seems to be done with Sentai adaptations.

Some promising news on the lightning collection, apparently the LC MMPR morpher is being reissued in August, it's available for pre-order now at Entertainment Earth, although it's at least $20 more than the original price

I bought this 3rd party figure and finally received it recently. There's a couple more accessories and configurations for the Megazord than show on the video.

Have to say this isn't a great sign, feels like an attempt at making some money off the brand without Hasbro having to do anything, which I don't think would happen if there were any new media coming any time soon.

Makes me wonder if the shows have indeed failed to move merchandise. Something I've posited about before and been told with no source that I was wrong in this thread.

It is weird for Hasbro to license out Power Rangers like this. They do licence products to third party but those tend to be high end products well outside the niche of what Hasbro usually does (ie: Three Zero, Flametoy, Robosen). Playmate seems like a company that literally does what Hasbro regularly does. So weird that they are moving things out of house like this.

Admitedly it seems it's only MMPR being moved it.

We know that Hasbro has been trying to refocus on the most popular few of their brands (MTG, D&D, board games, NERF, Play-Doh, Peppa Pig and Transformers) recently, this could just be their new strategy for still making some money of the other brands.

I assume from the wording that it is all of Power Rangers, it's just that MMPR is their current/first plan.

The press release also includes the phrase "Hasbro will also further activate the brand across their direct-to-consumer channel Hasbro Pulse and as part of its presence at major industry events like San Diego Comic Con" which is... confusing. I don't really know what this means, but maybe they'll still produce the occasional collector's item?

It's difficult to tell what's really going on without all the data available that is causing these choices. I would speculate they are looking to define the Hasbro brand as more for adult collectors and community driven projects like Haslab, while licensing out the IP's that are more for younger kids. Power Rangers as a brand has always skewed younger than Transformers and has frequent reinventions with every sub-series, this creates a gamble hoping to draw a new audience without alienating older fans. We already have the infamous "Trukk not Munkey" of Beast Wars, imagine every three years they switch Optimus from being a truck to a race car to a train to a spaceship. Power Rangers does cater to older fans with the Lightning Collection but those feel both random and evergreen, meaning you never know what you'll come across but also aren't pushed to complete a particular set in a certain time period.

Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!

According to Toybook there is to be a presentation from Hasbro at the Licensing Expo (May 21st) and they will be looking towards San Diego Comic Con presentation as well. So at least we won't have to wait 'till PMC for anything else.

BOOM have announced that after eight years their lead MMPR book is ending.

This won't be the end of the line at BOOM though, they will be announcing new projects soon and there are plans for presentations at San Diego Comic Con
