My question is what supers or villains might be revealed in this show. It's a shame the X-Men aren't a part of this because then Marvel would have had lots of new characters for each episode, but I'm sure they might still dig up plenty of other B-listers from elsewhere. Maybe even original heroes?

Ah so he did fake his death.

That one was always on the table, but it's so simple that I didn't really consider it.

Plus, this is Joss Happy People are boring / Kill Tara in a completely cruel and implausible manner Whedon, so Coulson being dead made sense.

...did he use his own reputation as a cover?

...And then he'll just write his way out of the black hole anyway. But in the process, he kills at least thirty-seven beloved characters. Maybe thirty-eight, if he's been having a good day.

But then the show will be cancelled right before you get to see the happy ending that answers everything and ties up all the loose ends.

[up][up]And then every character will be resurrected by a different writer less than a year later.

Now I'm starting to think that Joss is going to kill Coulson at the end of the first season and leave it on a cliff hanger only to reveal that he faked his death again in the beginning of season 2.

Coulson "dying" only to show up perfectly fine again a few episodes later could be turned into a once a season running gag so as to cry wolf so much that Joss has tenderized the fanbase for when he inevitably kills Coulson for real.

Actually, Joss said on Avengers' commentary that Kevin Feige suggested Coulson getting shanked, and he <Joss> sweated over it with his reputation for offing characters.

I still predict Coulson being revealed as a defective Life Model Decoy at the end of the first episode (i.e. the original one really did die and the one here is his clone). Maybe there will be further clones in later episodes.

I think it will just be the fact that Coulson faked his death and I'm standing by it

People keep on expecting this to be complicated and insane because of Whedon when really were just gonna get the simple and easy explanation.

In regard to nick fury showing up: considering that Samuel Jackson only allowed his likeness to be used for ultimate nick fury on the condition that he play him in an adaptation, he might consider asking for less money to appear on the show

To be fair, it was implied in the movie that Coulson might not have died, with Nick and that one SHIELD woman whose name I cannot recall having the conversation about Coulson's trading cards, and Nick saying something to the effect of "They (the Avengers) needed motivation." It was left up to interpretation (probably for the purposes of this show).

But really, this also means that it still might not be the real Coulson and Nick just lied about the trading cards, nothing else. He could still be an android or a clone or something else that's...comic book-y. (Heh, using Buffy Speak in a thread about a show by Joss Whedon...)

My prediction: the coulson on the tv show, at least at first, will be a LMD. however, I doubt we have seen the last of the real deal.

I'm pretty sure Marvel has the TV rights to all of their characters now. So presumably in this show they could use characters whose film rights are elsewhere, as long as the characters don't show up in the movies.

The show (and potential future movies) could maybe have it to the effect that the Skrulls are the hive queens (or something to that effect) or a related species to the Chitauri (spelling?).

[up][up][up] Marvel owns a lot... but for instance they don't own the rights to the X-men anymore (except in comicbook form) one of the reasons why they are letting the franchise bleed to death and distancing it from the films is because they can't make the same profits on the X-men anymore the way they are making money off the Avengers.

Okay, I am officially in the "Hoo-rah!" column. The last trailer. . .

Coulson: "I've seen giant. And the good ones are heroes, not for what they have, but for what they do."

That, right there, is everything I could hope for as far as themes go.
