"Well the first thing we need is an expanded role for Velvet-"
(Closes video)
Okay, okay, I'll give it a listen some other time, but I think it's hilarious that that person wants more Velvet when she's one of my least favourite characters.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Yeah that'd make me close the video as well. Not due to any dislike of her, that just immediately makes me think they don't understand character writing very well.
Or... at all.
That's what they all say about the characters disliked most.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.So I finally binged the last five episodes with my girlfriend because we'd both gotten kinda sick of how Season 5 was mostly "people sit around and talk and we see the first two seconds of a fight," and RWBY is actually better-served in chunks like that, which I think is why we fell in love with it when we were watching each season as a movie on Netflix.
It really picks up in episodes 10-13, with Cinder vs. Raven being far and away the best fight scene since season 3. But then that was basically the season blowing its load because what was left in episode 14 was an anticlimactic climax, with Adam cementing his status as Kylo Ren, right down to screaming like a child the second he stops getting his way.
My various fanfics.I'm not actually a big fan of Raven V Cinder. I think stuff like the Tyrion fight and even some of the mansion fight with Ilia was better. R V C is just a lot of flash but no substance.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Oh, shit, I forgot the Tyrion fight. Yeah, that was really good. The mansion fight was great, too, I'll admit, but Maiden Mania just had something going for it that made me feel like we were almost getting back to the earlier seasons.
Plus, it had a kick-ass vocal track.
My various fanfics.Cinder vs. Raven looked cool, but it got a bit too ridiculous for my tastes. I know that sounds weird, but them both making giants swords and rushing towards each other just didn't do it for me.
I thought it worked well as an exclamation to the fight and, while it was unlike any abilities any other characters in RWBY had shown, I think that was the point, to show how dangerous Maiden powers are and just how powerful they can be.
Although, I gotta say, this is 2 for 2 for humiliating defeats for Cinder. She might want to just actually die this time just so that she doesn't get her ass beat by Zwei in Volume 7.
My various fanfics. The giant swords was the only part that stuck out as over-the-top for me, the rest of the fight was really good though. The mansion fight was just full of awkward moments, what was it that people liked there?
Why did Kali put down her gun? It was out of ammo, yeah, but it had a bayonet.
EDIT: Also, not gonna lie, I think Kerry and Miles legitimately forgot that Faunus can see in the dark.

My various fanfics.I think both Blake and Ilia made good use of their Semblances and weapons in the fight. And it had a rare usage of Dust for tactical purposes (by someone other than Weiss), which is always nice.
It's been awhile since I watched, but I think that was supposed to be less about the darkness itself, and more about Ilia camouflaging herself with it.

But Illia could have done that in normal lighting. In fact, using the darkness probably made it harder to camouflage herself, because Blake would see the Illia-shaped black blob against the wall.
My various fanfics. The idea is if everything is gray, Ilia only really has to worry about being one color, instead of constantly being aware of and changing to match whatever is immediately behind her.
Edit: 'd
She wouldn't appear as a black Ilia shaped blob on the wall if the wall itself looks black.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyI can only remember the dust being used to pin the Albains, which was a really stupid moment because then they stood around and waited for them to get free.
Blake also used Ice Dust to temporarily stop Ilia's whip. And of course she used the Fire Dust to create some light so the aforementioned darkness trick couldn't work anymore.

Oh, yeah, the trick with the whip was super cool.
My various fanfics.Oh yeah, the whip thing was good.
The whip thing was specifically what I remember since it's how a fight scene should work right at the core and it's something RWBY forgets a lot (opponent has advantage, protagonist neutralises that advantage).
While the big sword thing is easily the most Narm bit of that fight note for the rest of it it's just two people blasting around with practically identical powersets and zero attempt at any sort of dignified choreography whatsoever.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"New RWBY Chibi out.
How does one make a TMNT reference episode without mentioning pizza? Also, I'm going to be that person and point out that the animation here is better than in the main show.

That only tends to work if we saw the fight scenes instead of some old man on the balcony or mommy issues being sorted out.
They actually remembered Cardin existed.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Twice!
A reaction video I peeked at joked that if Blake is Teenage Faunus Ninja Catgirl, then Adam is Shredder.
That was my problem with the Maiden fight as well. Also, the light arcs caused by the swords were awful when compared to the light arcs that occurred during the Cinder/Ozpin battle. I far preferred that fight to Cinder/Raven.
My favourite fight of V5 was Yang curbstomping the bandits and Sun's moment versus Ilia. In part, my enjoyment of the Yang fight was because it was the first time I'd really liked the music during a fight for the first time in a very long time. And the Sun fight was really good animation of his nunchucks and nice ambient lighting from the fire. So, for me the best fights in V4-5 have to be Tyrian, Yang and Sun.
They didn't forget about the night vision. Had they forgotten about the night vision, Ilia could have switched off the lighting and wouldn't have needed to bother adding in camouflage. Without the lighting, she didn't have anything to disappear into. By turning off the lights, she created a room full of shadow, so she was able to camouflage into the shadows.
At the moment, we've had no sign that she can do complex multi-coloured patterning the way a chameleon can. We know she can do a solid colour change, a partial colour (scale changes with no skin changes which made her look like she was blushing, and a couple of colours at the same time but in solid blocks (hair, skin, eyes, scales, etc,). But nothing on the scale that would allow her to become one with differently coloured walls and carpets and flooring and furniture all at the same time while in bright light right in front of her opponent.
In effect, she was grey-scaling the room in order to bring her camouflaging into play. My complaint at the time was that I think the creators should have made the audience see the lighting change and Ilia's colour change from Blake's perspective, instead of leaving us with the Fourth Wall perspective of seeing Ilia while Blake couldn't.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
I think that post someone here did about the change fighting styles and combat choreography covers that.
