Anglerfish and Turtle Hill
Greater Stone Spirit and Turtle City.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. One suggestion: When we are roll-calling, always pin the OP.
Now, with the votes I didn't cast: Greater Stone Spirit has too much sidematerial; . Earth Colossus . Cryptodira .
Sindbad isn't loading - again.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI meant to pin it when I put it in the OP, thanks for the reminder. I've swapped out the link for the anglerfish pic for a resize; the actual pic was over 900 px wide. Check the link and adjust your votes if you want.
The Anglerfish one looks a bit like Giant Eye of Doom - OK, not perfecty, but no much better here than there. Thus, I give it a
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm torn on Earth Colossus. To me, it looks too much like a creature, and it's only after a minute that I realized it was also supposed to look like terrain. I'll remain neutral on that one.
I think Septimus may have a point on Anglerfish, and would like to go back to neutral on that one. (Or, if you want to emulate proper crowner behavior, switch me to , since crowners don't allow switching to neutral.)
I think Turtle Hill is much better than Cryptogira Golf. It really does look like terrain at first glance, which the golf one doesn't. (Plus the golf one is from DA, which may require getting permission.) I guess I'll stay neutral on Cryptogira, though I'm tempted to say no.
Honestly, I think Turtle Hill is the best so far at showing the trope.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. The one good thing about having to do the vote tallying manually is that people can change their votes to neutral. I did that for you, Xtifr, on the one you were talking about.
I decided to go ahead and give a for the anglerfish.

Turtle Hill only looks like 'a turtle with stuff on its back', not 'wait, that's not an hill!'
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableHuh. Are you sure you're not mixing it up with the golf one? Because that was exactly my reaction to that one. But Turtle Hill actually took me a second to spot the turtle even though I was expecting one.
(Also, I think the elephants in Turtle Hill give it a scale that fits the trope better than the golf one. Although I admit that the golf one is beautifully rendered.)
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Pre-weekend bump for votes.
Septimus - it is also an example of Giant Eye of Doom, but the fact that people are standing on it and still surprised by it makes it a better fit for this page.
Xtifr - Actually, I, uh, saw the turtle immediately but didn't recognise the elephants as not-rocks until you pointed them out. <_< I think that's a good argument for showing a reaction as well - the reader is unreliable.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableAlright, we're at a week and the anglerfish has enough of a lead that we can call it. It's up, potholed, and the tag is adjusted. Caption or no?
"It's an eye!"
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanErr, we should probably crop the sides off a bit to make the figures easier to see at wikisize. <_<
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableNo consensus, so let's lock up and move on.
Anglerfish, all others.
