The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Thread!

Haven't tried Gates yet, but Rumble Blast and IIRC Guardian Signs had very similar problems.

Well you don't need to sell me on that last part, obviously. Though I do need to hurry up and submit my event 8 tasks....

Back on topic, I only really liked the first game's story - it felt concise, serious, and the stakes felt more personal. I really Love the concept (and said fan group sees it to fruition like I never thought possible), but the games mostly fall short for me.

Rumble Blast is another Pokemon spinoff that I got annoyed with fast. And that was more of the gameplay. I'm just smashing the attack button all the time! And I have to aquire MOAR and MOAR Pokemon instead of doing what I like to do in a Pokemon game and try to make my select few stronger.

I think it's the expectation of how many you are supposed to collect that wore me down.

But anyway, MYSTERY DUNGEON! I really did enjoy Explorers plot. It took awhile to ease into the nitty gritty darkness that Rescue Team seemed to pull straight off the back. And when the team exploration happened I actually smiled to myself when we got our travel segment without having the extremity of being chased after. Then Dusknoir happened. -laughs softly-

Will Gen 6 have a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon? I'd like to see Mega Evolutions in it.

It'll almost certainly have one.

I have to say, I personally liked Explorers of Sky the best, then Time/Darkness, then Red/Blue Rescue Team. I didn't bother buying Gates, because of the lack of pokemon.

People found Gates disappointing? I heard its story was decent, at least. Was it just because of the smaller choice in Pokemon, or something else?

Smaller choice and lack of gender choices, for me, a lady gamer. Plus I like those personality tests. (even if I just go on Game FAQ when I want to manipulate it)

Plot was alright but ehhh, I think I was being shoved into "heartwarming" moments too soon with the...fighter type...construction guys.

And gameplay wise, I LOATHED the camera being zoomed in way too close.

There ought to be silly Pokedex-esque entries on individual characters once you recruit them.

Why this game series is amazing: the music.

So which game would you recommend between Explorers of Sky, Explorers of Time or Explorers of Darkness?

Sky, since it's the improved third version. Well, Luxray/Luxio being replaced by Manetric/Electrike is debatable as an improvement, but other than that you can't go wrong.

Agreed with Moth there. Plus bonus stories that give you lots of extra items once you're done.

I hated the Manetric boss fight they added in Amp Plains... Other than that extra hard dungeon, Sky was the best version. I loved the unlockable side stories and the dungeon with the Shaymin Village.

I wish I could finish Zero Isle :(

I think you get some special held items as rewards for each (Only some give a certain reward) and the rarer useful items you might find along the way. In Sky, you get a special entry in your adventure log if you beat them all.

I've only played Red rescue team, So I can't give out recommendations. :(

DEFINITELY SKY. it has so many extras it's like they added a second game onto it.

Goomy should be one of the Pokemon you can play as in the next game. Noibat and Pumpkaboo too. They're so cute.

Will the gen 6 PMD reverse Infinity's pitiful playable character roster?

I hope they bring back the option to select your gender too.

Seriously, I mostly think that game was to just get a Mystery Dungeon game in before Gen V was over.

Also, I guess its about as good time as any (this thread is always dead) I recommend you guys check out this new PMD art group that sprung up here. It was born from the one in my sig (gotta get that trope page fixed), and that one was the biggest RP group in all of Deviantart, so if you guys are artists, writers, or are bored and want something to do, come on by.
