We are very strict about scappydom, so there are multiple criteria to qualify.

How many times do I have to tell you that an assessment of positive opinions, and only positive opinions, is not designed for tracking dislike, nor should it be used as evidence for lack of dislike? Camilla is one of the most numerically popular characters in the series, but she's still a base breaking character. Why is this? Because we know by basic logic that the people who dislike her AREN'T REPRESENTED IN POPULARITY POLLS.

That's the wall I've been banging my head against before and many others : It's nearly impossible to produce good enough evidence for qualifying for scrappydom in that site. But hey, it's not our fault if people decided to put whoever they didn't like in that cateogry and took away the value of what it meant to be the scrappy. We're not gonna legitimate that practice just because people are doing it.

And even those considerations aside, we hold officail popularity poll as better representation of the fandom than reddit polls. And while a low rank isn't proof of scrappydom, a high rank is definite proof of not scrappydom.

You're missing the obvious point that beyond a very vocal minority hating a character (which a ton of not scrappies have), a character has to have no supporters or little to qualify for scrappydom, which is what popularity poll measures.

No, but we can and we do use it to measure whether or not a character has supporters. Enough supporters to not qualify for this trope. Which isn't insane.

If that's how this works, then the system is broken. It should be judged on percentage of haters vs percentage of followers, and 70% against Peri seems pretty damn damning to me.

You know, a sample size of a hundred is pretty good for gaining an understanding of proportional opinions. Unless you want to say that every scientific study that uses that sample size is suddenly invalid because their random test subjects aren't the majority of people in the group being tested?

I have yet to see actual compelling evidence that even suggests she's Americans Hate Tingle, let alone a Scrappy.

Since you like to claim how statistics works, here's how they do work : You need a base sample that mirrors the overall fandom in beliefs over the subject for it to be accurate, otherwise it's just random bullshit. Going to /pol/ and making a poll (haha, pun) on any controversial subject and saying "oh they reach 70% of [controversial subject approval]" doesn't mean 70% of [people with an opinion over that subject] thinks that way.

The test subjects were NOT chosen as random. They were clustered at an English-speaking website, which means the demographic was biased.

No, it just means that's what the majority of /pol/ thinks, and thus, it's a good way of judging what /pol/ thinks.

This. that's apparently a longstanding issue in the way american polls are done and that any statistician worth their salt has pointed out for a long time. A sample isn't representative by sheer numbers.

What do you mean they weren't chosen at random? It was an open survey that was primarily done by random fans of FE who frequented the subreddit. Not carefully chosen individuals pushing an agenda.

and Soooooooo we agree that your poll only says what reddit thinks of peri, and reddit =/= a significant portion of the FE fandom. There.
