I've started playing the game and have just beaten the first boss. It's pretty fun so far, and I look forward to meeting the other characters.

By "first chapter", do you mean the prologue, or the actual Chapter 1?
Either way, the real fun isn't likely to start until Chapter 3, when the characters (other than Itsuki) get their Open Audition skills. I can hardly wait until then; I love it when (my) Sessions run through the entire party at least once.
Also, some advice for those starting the game and interested in getting all the Play Records (achievements): Buy up everything you can in the stores during Chapter 1, to the point that you have 159 yen or less. Then go "buy" a drink from a vending machine. (You do this early because the game pretty much throws money at you, to the point that there's no need for a money-grinding map like in SMTIV or SMTIVA. On the flip side, it's bad for a achievement that requires you to be broke enough that you can't buy a drink...)

So, in a fit of madness while at my local game store to pick up a Dark Samus Amiibo, I picked up #FE for the switch as well, because I need to see this for myself.
What, exactly, am I in for, besides a violently, violently anime game? My only real exposure has been memes and Fire Emblem Heroes, and all I know from there is that there's a toddler in a metal pumpkin and the pegasi have rocket engines.

Depends, but I'm not getting much buzz from it, other than ringing the controversy bell again when they announced Japan would get the altered version as well. In five years, it's going to be on those "best games you've never played" lists, and that will be the last we've ever hear from it.

@ ultimatepheer Persona without the calendar system and some pretty funny Fire Emblem references, if only to the games that are actually popular (Achanaea).
And unfortunately when the game came out people were still incredibly angry that SMT x FE wasn't some super dark XTREEME EDGE crossover.
