I actually like the main conflict, but I just give zero shits about Shaun and I've already moved on from losing my spouse. Also, I have settlements to build.

I'm probably going to do the Minutemen ending because my character wouldn't be able to tolerate the Institute long enough to stay undercover to the completion of Underground Undercover and would shoot the bastards before it's over, and the BOS are right out and would be shot the moment they say "Ad Victoriam".

Shaun might be a Nietzsche Wannabe asshole but little Synth Shaun is the sweetest little baby that ever lived and I will fight you over it.

I actually get a chuckle about how Synth Shaun is diametrically unlike Shaun.

Yesss, get in.

They've released the mod that lets you have more (or less) than four dialogue options. It also adds some icons, for, say, when a dialogue option ends a conversation, if it doesn't move the conversation along, etc. But the main thing I'm excited about is what any future modders might be able to do with it.

I finally got access to fusion generators and promptly integrated power generation into the Murkwater facility, which is kind of starting to look more like some sort of arcology. Similarly, the Castle was immediately upgraded to fusion power, since the demands of fortifications worthy of the name were well in excess of what I could supply with any reasonable number of gas generators. Also, in general, I feel better about having a fusion generator near my settlers live than I do about them constantly choking on engine fumes.

I also built a wall around some settlements I feel get attacked far more often than others - Oberland Station and Greentop Nursery. Hopefully, when I go to respond to calls for help, it will be simplified by this.

Have I mentioned that I love that the "Handmade Rifle" has a stock made from a shovel? I mean, a gunstock that requires ranks in the melee weapons perk is weird, but the fact that someone actually did that makes up for that. Now if only you could give the Kalashnikov its classic wooden stock.

We have a recommended mods page for Fallout 4 right?

Because I'm finally on the fast track to getting NMM. But someone recommended getting a Mod Organizer along with it. I'm already going to look for something to help with immersion - more clothing, that thing that lets you wear armor over clothes, realistic weight and weight for caps and bullets - but beyond that I'm stumped as to which mods to go for, and how much is too much.

Also, this 2.1 GB of update that I really don't want on my drive - this is the Creation Club isn't it? I'm hearing whispers that CC causes issues for Fallout 4, but I'm not sure if it's minor or game-crashing issues, and if it's Fallout 4 Vanilla or SE.

I started a Fallout 4 Recommended Mods page ages ago, but since I was the only one putting anything on it, it has all of two items on it. And honestly, since the Creation Club came out I have absolutely no enthusiasm for the game, so it'll be hard for me to go back through the mods I used, and I won't be able to say whether they still work. I can link two posts I made at various points to recommend some of my favorite mods, but again it's been a while since I played so I don't know what shape they're in.

And yeah, my understanding is that the bloated update you got to install consists of paid mods you haven't bought yet, and such regular updates are wrecking havoc on the script extender and dependent mods. Hence me dropping the game.

Sooo . . . they're putting the mods you don't own yet on your computer anyway? Boy, that's ripe for abuse. One skilled hacker could completely unlock those things without paying for them.

[up]x4 Yeah, same. The moment I realized that first 2GB update was mostly bullshit locked "mods" that Bethesda decided was a great idea to force into my drive I uninstalled Fallout 4 and haven't touched it since. Makes me glad I've never bothered with Skyrim SE, too.

[up]Yeah, I'm the same.

I refuse to re-install the games, which is sort of counter productive in a way, given that I paid for them, but I didn't by buying them give Zenimax Media, the owners of Bethesda Softworks, squatter's rights on my fucking hard drive for them to forcibly and without my consent download onto it content that I refuse to pay extra money for. And hence cannot access.

There's a class action suit in there somewhere, I'm sure of it. Folks have won money for much less stuff over in the States.

Eh, since you CAN uninstall it, I don't think there's a suit there. Maybe if you argue that this isn't what they advertised to start with, but even that's shaky unless you can get documents proving that they planned to do things this way all along and never bothered to tell people.

Not to mention most terms of service for video games actually say that you don't own the game or the software. You're merely renting it for a lifetime.

I'm still enjoying Fallout 4, and will keep buying Bethesda games.

I really hope they keep the settlement system for the next Fallout and/or Elder Scrolls.

[up]That's my position too, sure Bethesda has done some things that I don't like (*cough* creation club *cough*) but what ultimately matters is whether or not I get enjoyment out of their games. And for Fallout 4, Fallout 3, and Skyrim I overwhelmingly have.

I have no problems with that. I haven't sworn off Fallout or Elder Scrolls games from them. Not terribly interested in anything else they've got out so far, but not dropping those other ones. Though I'm considering dropping FO 4 if they do another big update, because I do NOT want that bloat on my hard drive.

[up][up]Problem is, their Creation Club is interfering with my ability to enjoy their game if it interferes with my ability to mod it. And if they keep pushing paid mods and their company currency, it makes me very reluctant to reward these business practices with my patronage, and apprehensive about what wonderful ideas they'll have next. So yeah, unless Bethesda makes some major changes to how it operates, I think I'll try to kill them by withholding my money.

Which is a shame, because if Obsidian made a game combining Fallout 4's graphics and combat with Fallout New Vegas' literally everything else, it might be The Best Fallout Ever. But if buying it would reward Bethesda and they're still up to their bullshit, nothing doing.

Sure, if it effects your enjoyment then logically you wouldn't want to play. And I hope that there is sufficient outcry for Bethesda to roll the Creation Club back (or at-least improve it).

So what exactly was the rationale, here? We can assume Bethesda is familiar with the idea of DLC at this point, I don't really get why they needed to preinstall this content all of a sudden. It's not like there's a multiplayer component they needed to normalize.

[up]Can't remember where I heard this, so take it with a grain of salt, but I heard it was to do with the limits on how much optional content is allowed to be downloaded for a game on consoles. Meanwhile, if the content isn't optional, if it's treated as a general patch for the game, it doesn't have to add to those limits.

Of course, not an ideal solution even for consoles. I know plenty of people with relatively limited drives who won't be happy if Fallout takes up unnecessary space for content they don't want.

I've well over a terabyte of hard-drive space available, and cables/adaptors/external cases to stick it all in. I just refuse to use any of it for any Bethesda game after Classic!Skyrim because they dropped this big of a clanger with the Paid Mods Club.

If they bring another game out with the Paid Mods Club bolted onto it, I won't buy the game. I won't even pirate it. I will only purchase another game from Bethesda if the Paid Mods Club is not a part of its installation file setup.
